Patrick Witz (writerwitz) | 37 comments Hi,

Not much sex, but can still be a whole lot of fun to read...

BOOK INFO: "Through Button Eyes: A Collection of Short Fiction" is a multi-author, multi-genre book that has 15 diverse stories spanning 13 genres. It will assuredly give book-lovers a thrilling emotional roller coaster experience of – excitement, fear, laughter, tears – as they revel in reading one marvelous short story after another. The authors, editors, and publishers of Placer Gold Writers group set our goal high… to create the best anthology of short fiction possible. We feel confident in stating that we have fulfilled our "Three E’s of Authorship" goal... to Entice, Engage, and Entertain our readers.

🎖️Out of somewhere around 5000 U.S. and International book entries, "Through Button Eyes, A Collection of Short Fiction" was selected as one of the five "Finalists" in the Anthology Division of the 2017 Next Generation Indie Book Awards (NGIBA).

AUTHOR INFO: I'm Patrick Witz, one of the seven authors. I wrote 7 of the 15 stories, created the cover image, developed our successful Kickstarter Publishing Campaign, created the Kickstarter video, and co-edited, co-published the book. I have not found comfort in one particular genre. My eclectic nature leads me into a labyrinth of fictional paths, varied narrative points-of-view, and blending of genres. I strive to create characters that visually come to life in a reader’s mind. In “Through Button Eyes” story collection, my character’s range from caring family members, cautious adventurers, and relatable quirky aliens to rotting zombies and psychopath killers. I enjoy composing unique settings, emotional plots, and introducing sudden story-line surprises. My diverse style is the spice of my writing – sometimes sweet, sometimes bitter, often includes a sprinkle of humor, a pinch of peculiar flavor, and on occasion I'll end by tossing in an unsuspected twist or emotional punch.

Ever notice how many racy books there are on all those Facebook Book Groups... guess I should have put a naked person on the cover instead of a button!!

It "reached" 3300 people, got 145 reactions, comments, shares, and 89 post clicks.... but it didn't generate any sales as far as I can tell. Can't tell if it was a waste of time or not!! I feel like I'm competing for attention with bots on FB.

Too funny. I'm not sure if it is because of the word Sex in the title but your thread is the only one from Goodreads that goes in my junk email instead of my inbox. :P

*Waving back excitedly* Hi fellow Californian Ember. Thanks for the winky welcome. Stated in my best Yoda, "Rules enforce them I will!" Noted you're a distopian... (warning, biased self-promotional plug) We have a couple of wonderful distopian short stories in our book. Ha ha, just realized... "wonderful distopian" sounds like a sick oxymoron?!? :D

*Coffee Foam Swirly Heart Art Cheers!* GG Mod... not to worry, I never label. Now every now and again I'll point and snicker, but never label. I've owned a child care program for 23 years. In this line of business, we modified an old saying... "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words, labels, and rumors can most assuredly put a child care out of business!"

A lesson I learned the hard way long ago, don't gulp coffee, tea, or soda while reading on a computer... laughing, choking and spewing wreaks havoc on keyboards. :P

Yep most definitely can. Many reputations have been destroyed on hear say :(

But hey, I wouldn't mind being as 'mean' as Christina, since she is probably the only one who actually thinks she is mean. hehe

Yeah, I know that's why I needed a new keyboard a few months ago. :P

Like wow man, it's legal here now. I personally believe it's an insurance business conspiracy... envision a million stoned drivers in bumper to bumper rush hour traffic with motorcycles splitting lanes. Insurance companies are going to make a fortune on fender-benders and biker speed bump rate hikes. The only good thing will be reduced road rage... nobody will give a rat's hind-end about anything! So, like dude, where's my car?

message 33: by Christina (new)

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) I'm behind the times. Though admittedly, last time I was in California, that's about what I remember the freeway being like. Except, yeah, there was plenty of road rage.

Ember-Raine Winters (ember-raine_winters) | 494 comments Can't go anywhere in California without a good dose of road rage! I honestly believe it would be better for my anxiety to live anywhere else! Hahaha! But yeah! "Stoning" is supposed to help with anxiety too, so there is that!

Luckily I live in the beautiful Northern CA Gold Country foothills. Hate the cities, too many people, too many cars, too much metal, glass and concrete. Born and raised city, now I live where I used to vacation. Forests, rivers, fresh clean air, pitch black nights illuminated by a bazillion stars, wild carnivorous critters, and enough insects to wear out a sizzling bug zapper in a month! Hang on... sorry, had to chase a half-dozen glorified tick-infested goats (deer) away from my garden. Besides the occasionally caught mercury laden catfish, devastating fall into an unmarked 150 yr. old deteriorating gold mine shaft, or a smoky raging forerst fire engulfing pine beatle killed trees... it's paradise!

Not to worry Ember, road rage nuts can only shoot you ten times now with the new 2017 gun laws... banana clips over ten bullets are illegal!

Ummm... thank you for the heads up, I'll make a note to avoid Lyndsay CA and it's Walmart for "health" reasons. I'm assuming you haven't been invited to join the Lyndsay Tourism/Visitors Welcoming Committee or to become a member of Lyndsay Good Neighbors Association. LOL

message 39: by Ember-Raine (new)

Ember-Raine Winters (ember-raine_winters) | 494 comments lol that would probably be a good idea and no I haven't hahaha. But come on! You have been to a Walmart, right? They are all crazy annoying with rude people everywhere! Lol!
(Just for clarification sake and so you know to avoid it I'm actually in Bakersfield and Lyndsay doesn't have its own Walmart haha it's a super small town the kind with like two stop signs and they just got their first stop light kinda small lol!)

Patrick Witz (writerwitz) | 37 comments Anybody else get a kink in their neck as you watch your book's hourly Amazon sales chart go up and down? It was recommended to me by another author, "Forget about it, check it only once a week!" That's hard to do... how does one ignore your baby for a week... I love watching the jubilating spikes upward, but I hate those damn dives down.

Patrick Witz (writerwitz) | 37 comments G.G. wrote: "Hourly sales?? I wouldn't mind having a kink in my neck to see that! hehehehe Grats!!"
WISH they were hourly... it "says" it's calculated hourly, sorry for the misunderstanding. It was depressing to watch that line drop like a lead weight on a fishing pole line down to the 6-digit bottom ratings the first week we published. Since then it's up into the 4-5 digits, shoot down, shoot up, shoot down. I'm trying to limit myself to viewing it only once a day.

message 46: by Christina (new)

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) Ah. You're looking at sales rank. Don't bother. It will swing wildly. And if your bottoming out in the six digit range, consider yourself blessed. That means you are still selling. It only takes a few days of no sales to get to the seven digit ranking.

message 47: by Patrick (new)

Patrick Witz (writerwitz) | 37 comments All one can do is laugh *LOL* when your Amazon sales ranking lists your book at 18,000,000 out of 8,000,000 books - me thinks something is statistically amiss! I'm keeping this screen shot image on my wall to prove it can't any worse than THAT and to motivate marketing efforts!

message 48: by Christina (new)

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) Out of "over" 8m books. On the Kindle side it says out of over 1m when there are now at least 5m Kindle offerings. All it means is they haven't updated their wording since Author Central began. ;)

message 49: by Patrick (new)

Patrick Witz (writerwitz) | 37 comments Christina... I know "of over 8m books". But you have to admit, the yo-yo effect in two days to go from the 200k's to 18m and back is a dramatic sight! Regardless *with tongue in cheek*, its still a nice motivational image of what "could happen" if an Indy author doesn't invested time and energy in marketing their book. :)

message 50: by C.B., Slave to Santa's Workshop (new)

C.B. Archer | 502 comments Mod
Don't feel too bad about ranks! :D That little line is surprisingly deceptive.

I just found out that some books are not books, according to Amazon. Like, for instance, my books.
*Shrugs*

Smile instead and be proud of your hat, because let's get real here, that is an awesome hat.
