I suppose this is as good a spot as any to put Every Heart a Doorway . I had heard about this book on many lists and booktuber's videos, so I gave it a try. It was a very interesting concept with some unusual characters, but it didn't work for me. I like the idea of having a special school where those who are cast out of their Narnias and Wonderlands can go and re-acclimate to everyday life. While the main character was asexual, a type not normally written about, I didn't find her all that interesting. I also didn't care too much for the other people she met. I dunno, I guess I expected a bit more and was too hyped for this one.

I've been pretty psyched to read this and now I find out the main character is ace?! Woooot!

I might try to take my excitement down a level; I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it! I'll still give it a go as it sounds like a unique/read read.

I would say to give it a go (it's uber short) and to be excited for a diverse/not often portrayed character. Also to approach the book with an open (nonhyped) mind. If it hadn't been so hyped, I think I might have dug it.

First impression on hearing about this book: that title alone blows me away and makes me want to read it.

Second impression as I began to read it: Don't cry. You're sitting in traffic and people will think you're weird.

How Dare the Sun Rise: Memoirs of a War Child is a memoir of a girl who survived a massacre in Rwanda and then immigrated to the United States, all before she was even a teen. Her story offers a personal perspective on the refugee crisis and is told in a raw, powerful, and yet relatable voice that opens this up to a wide range of readers.

Her accomplishments, both personal and global, are many and her activism has inspired many.

Basically, a harrowing/inspiring story with an accessible reading level.
