Michelle (mostlymiddlegrade) I read this last year and really enjoyed it. Got the Kindle version of book 2 last week. I look forward to reading it.

Laurel I have a copy on order from the library.

Michelle (mostlymiddlegrade) Oh, wow. I just got approved for a digital review copy of book 3. So, book 2 and 3 are definitely my next reads.

Lee | 939 comments I read this a few months ago. I 'enjoyed' it but it was way too dark and depressing for me to reread and/or continue the series. Although - I am curious if the author will (view spoiler)

Paul I should be starting in a couple of days when i'm done with my current book.

Mack Moyer (mackmoyer) | 9 comments I just ordered the paperback. I read the preview and thought the premise was awesome. Looking forward to it.

Paul Started this on the train this morning and already nearly half-way through. Definitely a quick read for me.

Really enjoying it so far. I like the way the author is gradually feeding us information about the world situation throughout the story rather than giving one big infodump at the beginning. It's working really well and I'm really interesting in learning more about that aspect of the story and the more immediate murder investigation.

Paul So I finished this today, my review here:

Looking forward to hearing what others think. For me it was a good idea that lost its way in the last third of the book, but still a pretty good read.

Spacechik | 47 comments I found this book at Costco and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Interesting perspective on pre-apocalyptic Earth. I agreed with Paul's analysis however. The silly sub-plot was too contrived and just petered out in the end and all the loose ends were tied up too neatly. Still, it was a fast read and pretty enjoyable. I will still read the second book just to see if the author's style gets better.

Sinistmer | 212 comments Finished this today, and I agree with what Paul and others have said. It's an interesting idea, but it just didn't play out for me--I did not think the author tied the parts together very well and, as a result, had trouble following the detective work. I pretty much felt disconnected from the story and characters, but kept reading because I liked the concept, and it was a quick read.

I agree, the sub-plot makes no sense whatsoever.

Mack Moyer (mackmoyer) | 9 comments I'm about twenty pages in. I'm really excited by the premise.

Mack Moyer (mackmoyer) | 9 comments Eh. I was really liking it at first. Now not so much.

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I started this one on audio, but it's not really grabbing me just yet. I think it's the reader. He sounds a little... nerdy and young, which is not what I expected.

Maybe he'll grow on me. We'll see.

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) So, I'm about 40% in right now, and the sub-plot (which I'm assuming is regarding (view spoiler) seems to just be getting started... but right now I'm having physics issues with this.

First, and I'm NOT a physicist by any even remote particle of imagination... but I did attend 8th grade, and I've watched a lot of car commercials advertising safety ratings, and that, I think, is enough to tell me that there's something wrong with the physics in this book. LOL

Issue 1: If you are travelling in a vehicle and hit a tree, your body will continue to travel in the direction you were going (forward) even though the vessel carrying you (the car) has come to a sudden stop. So therefore, your head would hit either the steering wheel, or the windshield, or maybe nothing if you're wearing a seatbelt... but you'd be jerked FORWARD. Not backwards into the headrest.

Issue 2: (view spoiler)

It's not just the physics. I won't elaborate on your gripes too much because of spoilers and such, but the lack of logic in this story just yanked me out of the book.

I was so excited to read it. Then halfway through I was yawning. If you took the impending end-of-the-world stuff out of this book and let it fly on the murder plot alone, I doubt it would have even been published.

Writing my review tomorrow. Just an awful book.

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) *sigh* Dammit.

Oh well, I'm going to finish it anyway. If what you say is true, there will likely be further rants to come.

Mack Moyer (mackmoyer) | 9 comments This book made my head hurt. Here's my review. Not a lot of spoilers, and a bit of foul language. I couldn't help it.

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Haha... "Not a lot of spoilers, and a bit of foul language" describes most of my reviews.
