HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

message 2: by Heather (new)

Heather | 8550 comments So, I know by now that our group book reads are not really successful. They sort of peter out as only few months go by and we get distracted or busy, or lose interest altogether. So I just want to ask the group a general question:

What books are you planning, wanting, intending to read this year? Hopefully one or more will be related to art, but take this thread and just share with us what you want to read! I think it would be fun just to get to know each others' taste in reading material and maybe we can get ideas from each other on books that look interesting to us, too. What do you say?

Heather | 8550 comments I will start. I know in various places in other threads some of us have posted what we read in January, or what we are reading now...this is awesome! I hope we can have more of us list a few of their books here so we can get some ideas and to know your interests better!

I did actually finish one book I had set to finish in January. Of course I finished it on Feb 2, but I did read it!

Read: Standing for Something: 10 Neglected Virtues That Will Heal Our Hearts and Homes

I have so many books I've started and want to finish every single one plus more this year! Right now I am reading a book that wasn't even on my 'to-read- list but it looked interesting and like something I could learn about right now.

Hope In Our Hearts

I have also been reading
Phantoms in the Brain: Probing the Mysteries of the Human Mind

Clara and Mr. Tiffany

Reread (because it is so good!) As A Man Thinketh / The Path Of Prosperity

The Vanishing Velázquez: A 19th Century Bookseller’s Obsession with a Lost Masterpiece

These are just the ones I've been reading intermittently and concurrently.

Heather | 8550 comments I hope these members don't mind but I'm going to re-post some things they have mentioned in their reading intentions right now.

Luis stated that he is interested in books that "have to do, sometimes, directly or indirectly with the statue of the year in which a certain event happens, or catastrophe, in most cases."

Luis also mentioned that he wants to read Treasure Island

Deborah intends to read The Lady and the Unicorn and is reading for February A Perfect Union of Contrary Things

What are you reading now? What are a few of the books you want to delve into this year?

I'm also reading O Físico Prodigioso"

Thank you, Luis!

Deb Omnivorous Reader | 136 comments I have so many planned, the one I just finished is A Perfect Union of Contrary Things by and about Maynard James Keenan. While he is mostly known as a musician he did actually attend art college (?).
Reviewed here; https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Currently reading The Coast A Journey Along Australia's Eastern Shores by Chris Hammer , wholly unrelated to art.

I have The Lady and the Unicorn (art fiction) and My Brush With Depression (about an Australian artist) and The Fade Out by Ed Brubaker on my to-do list for Feburary. The Fade Out is a graphic novel and there is some pretty good artwork in a lot of those.
