I just read about this story and it sounds wonderful. It's not out yet so I haven't read it, but it might be worth checking out:

Rise: How a House Built a Family

A woman and her children build a house without any experience, just by watching YouTube videos, as a way of healing from their abusive past.

Amanda (lueckagrell) | 1 comments I just read A Manual for Cleaning Women , short stories by Lucia Berlin. There was a ton of mothering in there, although much of it was tangled with alcoholism. They are fiction but loosely autobiographical, I believe.

Little Deaths Little Deaths by Emma Flint by Emma Flint

It's about the stigma of how a single mother should 'behave', set in the 60's or 70's I think. The children are sadly murdered, and the blame falls on the mother, with focus on her parenting skills, lifestyle etc. Feel free to dismiss it if it doesn't suit :)
