To the LighthouseThis didn't strike me as in any way Scottish so I'm not going to count it as part of my total for the challenge.

Standing Female NudeThe author was born in Glasgow so counts for the challenge. Her family moved to Stafford in England in 1961.

The book info says 'Bleak Orkney' - how rude! ;) Good review, I had no idea how important these little islands were in the war/s until I moved here. A constant reminder as you drive around are the many scuppered/sunken ships that jut out of the sea, as you've probably seen in the book, but I still know very little, really. What I do know is that when we moved here, we were advised to tie our 'hen hoose' down, as one stormy year dozens were famously blown away to sea! We've lost enough stuff to believe it!

Ellen,We went to Orkney in summer just past and loved it. I can imagine having to tie things down in winter, there was one night it howled outside. Orkney looks bleak till you get used to it then has its own kind of beauty. Scapa was extremely important to the naval war effort in both World Wars.
Jack & EllenWe were also in Orkney this summer (during the St Magnus festival). I wish we'd all known - we could have had a group meeting in Orkney!
The Revolution of Saint JoneI did not expect this Women's Press SF book from the 1980s to have any connection to Scotland but it did; being nominally set there - and it does have characters who speak in Scottish dialect.

Lorna, I don't think you'll regret reading it.
