Sherry | 8261 comments I just heard from Indigo Hotel and I agreed to a block of ten rooms (I think that will be enough). If we don't use that many, they won't charge us. Here are the particulars:

Hotel Indigo
151 Haywood Street
Asheville, NC

Here is the website:https://www.hotelindigo.com/hotels/us...

The dates are September 28 through October 1, but you can stay until October 2 if you wish. The group name will be Constant Reader. The price is $169 per night with free parking. Unfortunately they only have king rooms available, so folks wanting to share rooms should be aware of that. You have until August 18th to book. But please do so before that, as I will get anxious, and you don't want an anxious Doyenne, do you?

Sherry | 8261 comments I just signed a contract, so I hope you all come!

message 3: by Ruth (new)

Ruth | 11090 comments What's alngroom? One king sized bed ? Two?

message 4: by Sherry, Doyenne (new)

Sherry | 8261 comments I don't understand the question. Where did you see "alngroom?" The only rooms they had available were rooms with only one king bed. I can't believe they already ran out of the rooms with two beds. The lady I talked to said they didn't have very many of those.

message 5: by Ruth (new)

Ruth | 11090 comments Typo city. I meant king room. But you answered my question. I'm not sure about sharing a bed.

message 6: by Sherry, Doyenne (new)

Sherry | 8261 comments I knew that might be a problem. Lynn and I did it in Santa Fe because the room only had a king and a couch and neither one of us wanted the couch.

message 7: by Sara (new)

Sara (seracat) | 2107 comments Sherry, 10/1 is Sunday--wouldn't we normally stay until Sunday? or did you mean 10/2?

message 8: by Lynn (new)

Lynn | 2348 comments I think she's talking about the hotel nights, as opposed to calendar days - most of us wouldn't stay Sunday night.

I agree that the "king-only" rooms might mean that I'll have to get my own room for a change. Sherry said I kicked when we shared the king bed in Santa Fe :)

message 9: by Sherry, Doyenne (new)

Sherry | 8261 comments Sara, I just changed my initial note. The reservations are Thursday night (28th) through Sunday morning (Oct. 1) You can stay through Monday morning if you like, but just mention it when you reserve.

Lynn, you didn't kick much. I'd be willing to risk it. I'm planning on staying at the hotel, because I don't want to miss one minute with you all.

message 10: by Lynn (new)

Lynn | 2348 comments If you're willing to risk it, I'm okay with sharing with you, Sherry :) It would feel weird to go to a convention and stay by myself!

message 11: by Sherry, Doyenne (new)

Sherry | 8261 comments Ruth, maybe you could bring Beth. You wouldn't mind sharing a kingsize bed with her, would you?

message 12: by Ruth (new)

Ruth | 11090 comments I dunno. She sleeps hot and I'm always cold.m besides, she's using vacation time to come with me to the cabin in august.

Well, it was a thought. Is there any other friend who you would feel comfortable with?

message 14: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 8242 comments Talked to Mary Anne and I'm going to go ahead and get a room by myself. I am up and down so much during the night that I would drive anyone crazy. But, I'm hoping we will sit up late and talk anyway. I will just go back to my room when I try to sleep.

I haven't asked that, but when anyone registers they can.

message 17: by Sherry, Doyenne (last edited Feb 06, 2017 10:06AM) (new)

Sherry | 8261 comments I heard from the Hotel today. Here is some information they sent:

"Thank you for returning the contract! All is set up in our reservation system and your booking link is in the email below. Your guests can either call in to (828) 239-0239 and reference the “Constant Reader” group or book using the link.

We look forward to having your group here!"

message 18: by Sherry, Doyenne (new)

Sherry | 8261 comments I just reserved a room for Lynn and me using this link, and there was a place where I could have ordered a rollaway bed. I didn't order it, though, since I don't think we'll need it.

message 19: by Lynn (new)

Lynn | 2348 comments Thanks, Sherry. Yes, I think I'd rather just share a comfy king than to feel like one of us got the short straw on the rollaway.

I just tried to book online and they didn't recognize the group code Constant Reader. Are we better off just calling them? I found this number on the site and will probably do that tomorrow: Front Desk: 1-828-2390239.

I love that free parking is included with this rate. The site says that it is $18 overnight normally and I'm pretty sure I will be driving a rental car.

Yes, I think calling them will be better. I think that is the way I did it, too, although I should tell them if the code doesn't work online.

I just made my reservation, and the code does not work online.

BTW, if my daughter is able to get a cheaper rate for me, I'll cancel my Constant Reader reservation to make room for someone else.

Did you call to make a reservation, Deborah?

message 24: by Sherry, Doyenne (new)

Sherry | 8261 comments I called the hotel and they said that the links for the groups had not been working, but they should work now. If you are still having problems, just call the hotel.

message 25: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (brandiec) | 103 comments Sherry wrote: "Did you call to make a reservation, Deborah?"

Yes, I did make my reservation by telephone.

message 26: by Lynn (new)

Lynn | 2348 comments I'm glad you're going to be there, Deborah. I look forward to meeting you!

Lynn | 2348 comments Hi, Peggy. Please come - it would be so much fun to see you again!

message 31: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 8242 comments Just made my reservation!!

On a side note, Tom can't resist seeing if he can get lower rates on hotel rooms. When he checked on this one, he was very impressed with the rate you got, Sherry.

Wahoo! I'm already getting excited.

message 32: by Sherry, Doyenne (new)

Sherry | 8261 comments I heard from James Larry Deaton and he and his wife are also coming.

It's nothing I did, Barb. The hotel offered me that price and I grabbed it.

message 34: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 8242 comments That's great news about Larry and his wife!

message 35: by Ann D (new)

Ann D | 3828 comments I made the reservation for Tom and me today. REALLY looking forward to seeing everyone. It's been a long, long time.

message 37: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 8242 comments Whoopee!! I am so glad you are coming, Ann! Now, I think my Tom may be going too. It will be nice for him that there will be a few other men there.

message 38: by Sherry, Doyenne (new)

Sherry | 8261 comments Oh, good, Barb. My Tom will be there for most of the meals. The three Toms can hang out!

message 39: by Ann D (new)

Ann D | 3828 comments That would be great if the other Toms can be there! Also, I was very pleased to see that Larry and his wife are coming.

Lynn | 2348 comments My dean approved the time off (assuming I can find someone to give tests for me in my classes that Friday), so I just booked my flight! I wasn't sure she would be amenable (fortunately she was), but figured I could always tell her to stuff it if she didn't like it because I'm going to retire at the end of the year :)
