Monday Mourning question

There was this book I read in either 4th or 6th grade. I had to stop reading it because it would send me into a panic attack and I'd cry because of it. The book was about a boy named Michael. He was either kidnapped or killed, (I never read the ending..) the book was pretty much about the mourning his family went through. A line or two from the book was like, "it's Christmas and we have your gifts in the closet hoping you'd come home." And, "your room is left the exact same way as it was the day you were gone." And stuff like that, so if anyone can help me out that would be greatly appreciated! It sent me into attacks because one of my brothers names is Michael, and my brother Jonathon actually passed away.. so it was hard for me to read it so young. Thank you in advance if someone can find it! Book is not about the topic book I picked, it wouldn't let me post without a book.
