☼ Summer Break ☼ {Semi-Advanced RP} discussion
Emma sat with her head propped in her hand, a cup of caffeine something or other cooling in front of her. She had had one too many flights and lay overs to get here and she wasn't prepared for the sun to still be up. When she had finally arrived at the airport, Emma hadn't been prepared for the cheerful welcome. It was like being hit over the head with a rainbow. Not for the first time, she thought of how big of a mistake this was, but instead of focusing on her foolish decision, she decided to try not to burn her tongue as she took a sip of her coffee.
Emma winced as a gulp a close to scalding hot coffee slid down her throat, having been startled by an unfamiliar voice addressing her. Looking up, she noticed a tall man looming over her, wearing a grin that was dripping with over confidence-- her favorite kind of smile. This was just what she needed, to be confronted by a delusional stranger who's good mood was just a little bit nauseating. "If I say no, will you feel obligated to make awkward conversation?" she replied, her throat burning and feeling tight.
A muscle worked in Emma's jaw as she considered whether or not it would be too rude if she just got up and left. Despite the fact that she had spent far too much time sitting today, it sounded a lot better then getting up and figuring out where exactly she was supposed to go. Biting back a disappointed groan, Emma merely said, "Someone who you'll forget by the time you walk out the door." It was true. The only people who actually knew her name were the people in her study group. Most of the people she knew just called her Amy or Emily or Anna and she had given up a long time ago trying to correct them. Her name would probably go in one of Alec's ears and out the other, so she didn't see why she should even bother.
((I don't know if you forgot or not, but he already introduced himself and I'm just gonna go with that :) ))"So I've heard," Emma mumbled. What possible reason was there for introducing herself to him. It would be a waste of breath. He could give her any look he wanted, he wasn't about to win her over just because he was half ways decent looking. Now that she came to think of it, that was probably why he had come over to her so confidently. He was used to getting what he wanted based on his appearance. Ren was like that, but she put up with it because he was her brother. Alec wasn't. "Didn't you say you wouldn't feel obligated to make awkward conversation?" Emma asked, trying to get away with not having to tell him who she was.
Alec raised a surprised eyebrow. "Then why won't you tell me your name beautiful! I promise it will only benefit you." He said flirtatiously, winking. Sure he was promising a lot, but the not knowing of this was driving him insane. How could he not want to know her name! He was far to curious and she was really mysterious. He was making it his goal to find out. "If you tell me, I will by you a treat of your choice!" He offered, ignoring her question momentarily. She was going to be the death of him. He had to know. He had to know. This was like for real, life and death. Life and death. Not knowing would kill him. "Um no. I feel oblidged?" He offered, not sure what she was asking. He was too busy trying to get her name out of her.
((No worries ^_^))Emma squeezed her eyes shut for a few moments. She really didn't have the energy for this. She didn't even want to know what he meant by saying that telling him her name would benefit her. "Would that treat be you leaving me alone?" she inquired. "Look. I really don't care who you are or why you're even bothering to talk to me, but I'm just going to cut to the chase and tell you that your cheap tricks aren't gonna work here. If I even wanted to talk to someone right now, it would have to be with someone with a bit more substance than over confident charm."
It was obvious that Emma's words had struck a nerve with him. She had never been so openly mean to anybody. She had never had to be, but she wasn't going to take it back. Emma could blame it as much as she wanted on exhaustion but the truth was that while this conversation may not have been awkward for him, it was awkward as hell for her. Emma couldn't remember talking to someone for this long, aside from when she was taking someones order or explaining an assignment to a classmate. "I don't know you and you don't know me. Why can't we just keep it that way?" she asked, not bothering to tell him that he wasn't even close to guessing her name.
"Well did you ever think maybe I didn't want to be cheered up?" Emma retorted. She felt herself relax when he finally announced he was going to leave. Maybe she should have just gone to sleep and avoided this whole mess. Emma decided that she hated time zones.Looking up as he stood, she gave him a winning smile that matched the snarkiness of his farewell. "And it's Emma, by the way," she said, just to spite him. She had considered keeping her name to herself, but if he was leaving, why not? It wasn't like she was going to see him again. They may be stuck on the same island, but she was sure she wasn't going to run into Alec again.
Ashlee stood in line to order behind a clearly rich, old white lady who was obviously in Hawaii for retirement. While the trip itself was all expenses paid, it seemed the world was trying to make her pay for it in fees like waiting too long in line. She had spent the few hours she had been in the tropical state by the water down by the beach. A simple black bikini top was her only top coverage, while a cute short wrap skirt covered the other half of the bathing suit. Her dark, blood red hair hung loose in curls, Gucci sunglasses resting atop her head. She had been planning on ordering her usual frappacino, but perhaps a new state meant a new order. But would it also be too hot for a latte?
As the crabby rich lady moved to the other side of the counter, Ashlee moved up and chose the caramel ribbon frappacino. Maybe a new state didn't mean a new order. She handed the cashier her card to swipe, and as soon as she was given it back, she slid down to the same side as the rich white lady to wait for her drink.
Shaking his head slightly, he looked back down at the drink he held in his hands. What was he to do now? He didn’t know anybody here and he was terrible at making friends. Everyone that seemed to arrive looked sporty and tanned anyways. Then there was him - pale and dorky. Though he could hold his own weight, he just didn’t like to show it off like everyone else did.
Ashlee swiveled around on her heel as soon as she picked up her drink. She placed her lips around the straw and sipped as she scanned the room. It was fairly crowded; Most tables were taken with at least one person. She noticed a lonely looking boy across the room. He was pale, but he was actually kinda cute. And he seemed like a genuinely good person at first glance. Ashlee, being the type of person she was, debated on whether or not she should accompany this boy at his table. He looked a little lost; Perhaps Ashlee could cheer him up. It was then she decided to go for it and guide this boy to fun. If it was going to end with her embarrassing herself, at least she'd do it early in the trip rather than later. Maybe he would turn out to be her first friend in Hawaii.
Ashlee didn't know what compelled her to go out of her way or why this boy had caught her eye, but she didn't bother exploring why because details were boring.
She sat in the available chair across from this boy and smiled. "I'm Ashlee. Do you mind if I sit here?"

Damon jumped visibly when she sat down in front of him, nearly spilling his drink. As he tried to find the right words to say, he found himself just staring at her. She was really, really... Beautiful. He swallowed hard, looking down embarrassedly. “U-Um... It’s f-fine. I’m D-Damon.” He said awkwardly, having never been able to talk normally around girls. Especially pretty girls.
He slowly sipped his drink once more, hoping that it would soothe the sudden dryness of his mouth.
He couldn’t help how awkward he was, not knowing what else to say to her at this point. She probably thought he was just a nerd or a weirdo, like most girls did. They could never understand why he was the way he was, since they’d never been bullied themselves. He sighed shakily before glancing back up to her in hope that she would say something else.
"Are you okay?" Ashlee asked with a crooked eyebrow. Damon had seemed to be a bit shaken up with her sudden appearance. But Ashlee had never developed a social boundary and she continued to get settled in to the cushioned, wooden chairs. "It's been a while since I've heard a guy stutter over me," Ashlee teased playfully. She meant no harm to him, and smiled widely to show she wasn't trying to be hostile. She pushed her frappaccino back and forth between her palms, the condensation leaving little water droplets in the creases of her hand. "So what'd you order? Something simple or did you have to go full white girl and get something soy and double whipped?" she chuckled at the thought. Even she didn't bother with the Starbucks secret menu.
Damon smiled faintly, his eyes still darting around nervously. “I-Iced l-latte.” He stuttered, fighting the blush that crept up onto his cheeks. This hadn’t really happened often to him, and he’d normally screw it up every time. “S-Sorry I’m so... Weird. I-I’m just not good at talking to g-girls.” He said bashfully, sighing and running a nervous hand though his hair. Especially not pretty girls like she was. Why had she even decided to approach him? He was the nerdy boy that no girl wanted. So this was all new to him, and handling the situation was not his best suit. Math equations, simplest thing on earth to him. Talking to girls... Not so much.
Jason sat alone at one of the many tables scattered around the coffee shop. He rested his elbows on the table as he held his caramel frappuccino in one hand. He lazily dragged his fingers across his phone as his headphones rested on his head and played music.
He smiled inwardly to himself as he breathed in the scent of coffee. Jason liked coming here during his free time. It was very calming and it was nice and quiet, a big contrast to the bright and loud beaches outside.
Fate walked in, pulling out some money to sling over the counter. Most people came here for coffee. She came here to get smoothies and tea. After getting a chocolate smoothie, she hurried over to an empty table. Most people wouldn't even guess that she was blind. She had learned to have such good hearing, she could tell if a person was sitting their from their breathing. She pushed up her sunglasses, making sure they were still on. Most people thought she was weird, wearing her sunglasses inside. For her though, it was mandatory. She turned to the table behind her, after hearing faint music. Not to look any weirder, she gives a small smile, and a quiet, "Hello there."
Feeling someone look at him, Jason looked up and around the shop before stopping on a girl who sat at a table in front of him. She wore dark sunglasses that were pushed up and covering her eyes completely, even though it wasn't at all bright in the shop. Even though Jason couldn't see her eyes, he could tell that she was fairly attractive.
Jason was starting to feel uncomfortable under her gaze. He grabbed his phone and paused the song and pulled his headphones down so that they were dangling from his neck. He hesitantly spoke up. "Uh hello.." He internally smacked himself. Was that the right thing to say? He wasn't the best or the worst at first impressions and always seemed to be a bit awkward to new people. He was constantly teased by his friends and was told often that he needed to work on that.
Before responding, she reaches into her back, and pull out paper, books, her slate, and stylus. She usually did homework, so this was normal for her even in summer. Of course, all her work was in Braille. Fate smiled, and gave a polite nod. "What are you listening to?" She wasn't one for talking, but she figured she could make some small chat. She punched in a few letters, then turned back to him, waiting for his answer. Fate then blushes, feeling rude for not introducing herself. "Oh, and I'm Fate." She holds out her hand.
Jason smiles. He leans forward and grabs her hand and shakes it. "Jason.." he replies. When she asks her question, his eyes widen in surprise. He didn't even have it on a high volume. "Stop by Dalton Rapattoni. It's a bit emotional and depressing but it's.. different than most music," he trailed off. "It's pretty good in my opinion." He shrugs his shoulders in nonchalance. "Just came out a couple weeks ago."(view spoiler)
Fate nods, setting her hands back in her lap. "I'll have to give it a try. It sounds..." She pauses to think of the word. "Interesting, something I'd like." She turns back to her table, and starts punching in letters. Fate had always laughed at how people never notice her stylus and slate. They think she can see, they never notice the details. She can't see, They didn't get that. That's why she didn't go to bars, or swimming. That's why she didn't usually talk to people. People were stupid and never saw the signs. "It was nice to meet you Jason." Fate says, her melodic voice carrying. She didn't know how else to continue. Most people would have already walked away by now. If she could see what he looked like, she would have by now. These were one of these moments when she would do anything to have sight. You miss out on a lot when you can't see. You don't know if people look trustworthy. She continues to punch in letters, pausing to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear.
"It was nice to meet you," he echoed. He thought for a moment, trying to think of a way to break the silence. Jason spoke up again and attempted to keep the conversation going. "Well, what types of music do you like?" he asks. "I told you what I was listening to." Jason shifted in his seat and got up, picking up his belongings on the way. He walked over to Fate's table and slid into the seat across from her.
Fate glances up, shocked. She was not expecting this. She was slightly uncomfortable, and pushed her glasses up, to make sure they were on. Although nervous, she was also curious. She wondered why he was talking to her. "I...I guess I like anything that can relate to me, or fits my mood. I like a lot of old songs, but I also enjoy new songs." She finishes off, "I like a lot of different music genres I guess." She continued to write her essay. She had to write a whole essay in Braille, and then had to type it on a computer. It kept her busy to say the least. Fate tilted her head, and faced Jason, trying to read him. She knew she shouldn't do it, but went with it anyway for curiosity's sake.
Jason sat there and listened. "I guess you can say I'm pretty diverse when it comes to music if I do say so my self," he said thoughtfully. He added a small laugh at the end. Jason sighed and continued. "But relatable songs are probably my favorite too. Makes you feel a little hopeful.."((Brb ensemble. Won't be able to reply right away))
Fate nods and gives a small smile. She continued pushing in letters. "I.. I hope you don't mind, I'm working on homework." After a little while she nods, "Hopeful is one way to describe it." She picks up her untouched smoothie, and sips it. She had a small smile on her, and couldn't resist from asking, "You have no idea, do you?"
After leaving the beach Colton decided to go over to Starbucks to get a coffee before he returned to the house. As he walked down the street in his swim trunks and gray t-shirt he looked around for the closest Startbuks. He heard a familiar jingle in his pocket. He got a text message from one of the girls back in California.
"Hey Colton, just hope your doing well and having fun in Hawaii! Hope to see you soon! ^_^"
Colton shook his head and laughed when he read the text message. He placed his phone back in his pocket. When Colton finally found the Starbucks he walked in the door and looked up at the menu to choose what kind if coffee he wanted to get.
Fate looked over at the counter, listening to the person come in. She was curious, as always. After hearing the person place his order, she turns back to Jason. "I'm sorry. Now, like I asked before, You have no idea do you?" She laughs, in more of a mocking way. No one ever could tell. Well, kids at her old school could tell. That's probably why... why stuff happened. "Don't worry. No one ever can tell."
"U-uhm.." he stutters. Jason quickly scans Fate. For the first time, he noticed the stylus and slate sitting near her. He looks up at her face for any clue. Her big sunglasses gave it away. He hastily pieces the two clues together and pulls up a conclusion. Fate was blind.
"Oh..." Jason gave out a sigh in relief, which was barely audible. He was thankful that he didn't blurt out the fact that she was blind right away. He didn't want to seem rude. "S-sorry. I get it if you don't want to talk about it," he mumbled.
Fate smiled, and took of her sunglasses, shaking her hair out. "It's fine. I just would feel I was lying to you if you didn't know that I was..." She trails off. If you were looking at her eyes, they were clouded, but it didn't stand out as much as she thought. She was a little scared of what people think of her. Just a little. But she was blind, you couldn't blame her. "I just feel more comfortable with the glasses on." She slides the shades back, "I'm sorry Jason." After smiling weakly, Fate goes back to pressing letters in.
"I don't want to sound cheesy, but I kind of know what it's like.." Jason offered. "I was..." he paused to think of the correct term. "A nerd..? At least until my sophomore year in high school." He folded his hands on the table and leaned back in his chair. "After I moved, I adjusted myself a bit to fit in. Now, I never really feel confident without the I guess you can say "popular crowd" clothes and personality," he explains, putting air quotes around popular crowd and tugging at his clothes.
Fate sighed. "You think you know." She nods, "I was an easy target. Rumors from girls... and... things... from guys. It sucked. The thing is, I can't change." She bites her lip before pushing her chair back. "I'm sorry, I have to go." She throws her stylus, slate into her bag. Standing up, Fate picks up her smoothie, "I shouldn't have said anything. I'm sorry Jason." She hurries out of the the shop, forgetting behind her paper. She knew she shouldn't have talked to anyone. It leads to awkwardness, and being treated differently. People think they know everything about being blind, and they think their better. She blinks back tears as she runs away from the shop.
Jason sits there, shocked. He sighs and bites his lip in frustration. He knew he shouldn't have pushed. It gotten too far and the wrong words were chosen. Then, the familiar feeling of failure and regret floods his head. He takes a deep breath and pushes those thoughts into the back of his mind. He looks around, trying to see if anyone was staring at him. After collecting his thoughts, Jason gets up and grabs his things. He flips his headphones back up, increases the volume a couple bars, and hits play on his phone. Not feeling thirsty anymore, he throws his leftover frappuccino in the trash. Jason forces the door open and takes off down the street. So much for a drama-free afternoon.

She forward on the table and her features began to look as if they wanted to whisper a secret to Damon. "Think of me like a...uh...dragon. Well, most people do anyway," she paused and made a thoughtful face, her lips pursing and eyes wandering off to the left. She recalled her sophomore year when she auditioned for the role of Elphaba from Wicked. She had been ruthless about being cast, and because of her ruthlessness, she was. It was only a heartbeat before she was back to her old chipper self.
After spending a week in this place vee had finally decided to visit this place, which was weird for her since it was almost her second home back in Nee York. But she had been busy settling in in her new room and could really use a warm cup of coffee. She was glade to come in and see the line empty since she couldn't keep herself waiting. She walk toward the counter where the crasher was with her multicolored hair-starting purple at her crown then aqua blue and finally mint green- swishing from side to side in its pony tail and she moved. Her phone held in one hand with her nails a sparking light green.
Dante drove his car around town, looking for someplace to go. He looked on the right side of his car window and noticed there was a Starbucks. "All right! They got coffee here... I need to stop thinking Hawaii is a foreign place..." He said to himself while driving into the parking lot and pulling up in a parking place. Dante turned the engine off and pulled his keys out of the ignition. He opened up the door and got out of his car and walked into the Starbucks. The first thing me noticed when he walked in was this girl with different colour hair. Dante tapped his finger on her shoulder and started complementing her on her hair. "That's some cool colours you got going on there," he told her. He didn't want to seem weird.. Just talking to a stranger like that.. But she looked about his age and probably many strangers complimented her on her multicoloured hair.
Vee was about to oder herself coffee when she felt something on her shoulder, almost like someone was drumming on them with two beats. She turns around to find a guy, taller then her by a little and with brown hair. At his comment her cheeks warm up as she slightly blushes. "Really?" She asks happily to hear what he thought of her hair. Her hand went up to the end of her ponytail as she played with it, troweling it around her fingers. "Thanks, i had it done back in New York" she tells him. She was glade he liked it, its what she wanted people to think about her hair. "I was going for a cool summer theme"
Dante smiled at her. "New York you say?" He said to her with his eyebrow raised slightly. "So your from the big apple eh?" He said. Dante arched his chin up looking at the menu above the counter quickly. Already knowing what he wanted, he turned back to the girl. "Well it sure does suit you," he said with a smile on his face. He put his hand out for her to shake it.. If she would shake it... He didn't know. "Anyways," he said before he started trailing off in his own thoughts. "The names Dante, you can call be Dan," he explained.
"Im glade i left that place" she admits as she reaches out to shake his hand, feeling comfortable with it. yah! Someone new. She wanted to meet someone she could become friends with, if he was willing to. She had spoken to people but they were all workers of some place and she couldn't really befriend them when their supposed to work. She gently shakes his hand in a friendly and girly way and says "Vee Sky and yes my first name is just Vee with two e's" she tells him just incase a thought came to his head about it like other people she had meat this week. "And thanks again" she repeats.
Dante chuckled a bit. "I think Hawaii beats any place in the United States," he told her. When Dante heard her tell him her name, his eyes opened larger. "Well, that's a unique name, with the E's you say?" He asked with his eyebrow slightly raised. "Well it's your turn to owder your coffee," he told her pointing to the counter with the worker waiting to take her owder.
She nods in agreement about her name. "Oh!" She says slightly laughing at herself at how she had forgotten to order, getting carried away with the conversation. "My bad" she says embarrassed. "Sorry....ill get a medium size french vanilla" she decides as she takes out her wallet from her side purse, missing the wonderful feeling the drink gives her. She hands the worker the money who had taken her order.
Dante shook his head and chuckled. He walked up to the counter and orders his coffee. He took a sip of it, ending up burning his tongue on it. "Owch! Why the hell do I always do that!" He said out loud. He itched the back of his he's head and laughed when people looked at him, giving him weird looks. He then walked over to the Vee and smirked and pointed to an open table. "Want to go sit down there with me? It would be nice to get to know you, when I only know myself here," He said. This trip was a good way of making new friends; and not being a shy person, this was the perfect trip for him. Dante raised his eyebrow slightly. Making it look like a light bulb whent off in his head. "You here for the free trip for teenagers and college students?" He asked her.
She laughs as she watched him along with others in the cafe, watching how he acts at burning his self. At his offer she agrees, taking it would be a great chance to meet him now. "Sure" she says holding her cup of warm french vanilla. She walks slowly towards the table, nodding at his question about the trip. "Yah why? Did you?" She asks. how much people had been invited to this trip?. She slides in the seat placing her cup and phone on the table.
Dante walked over to the table and sat down in the chair. He set his coffee down beside to him. "Because I'm also on the trip and it would be good to get to know someone before I go into a house with strangers... You know teens now a days; they don't give a rats ass and they will treat you like crap, so I'm trying to make some friends.." He said while picking up is coffee and took another sip and set if down next to him. "So, what do you think of Hawaii? Do you like it or miss New York?" He asked, trying to make conversation.
She was glade to hear he wanted to become friends, and hoping it was just that. She wasn't planning and isn't waiting to have guys all over her. After all it was the reason she left in the first place. She twists her cup as it stood on the table. "I love it here" she says looking up into his eyes as she speaks. "I don't like nor miss New york. You may think I'm weird but i kinda hated it" she admits seeing no point in hiding it. They were trying to know each other.

Starbucks. Does this really needs a description? I don’t think so. There is a quite big one just next door to the Headmaster’s house for all the lazy teens who hate making their own breakfast.
