Well never heard from anyone about the group read so I went ahead and read it myself. It was soooo good! Erie, and the fact that some of this stuff actually happened during World War II?, I can't believe humans would do that to one another.
Hey Judii, just started Island 731 and wow what an opening for this book. I am really enjoying it and look forward to getting into the guts of this book and seeing what crazy stuff is going to happen. Oh also, Robinson has this awesome Kickstarter thing going on and I thought this might be a great place to put a link or some info. So here's the info from within the newsletter I received:As some of you know, my first passion for storytelling is film. I know, I know, that's quasi-blasphemous for a novelist to say, but as a storyteller, visual artist and musician, nothing combines my passions better than a good movie. I started my writing career as a screenwriter and eventually shifted to novels, in part because, as a writer, I prefer the medium, but also because I knew that the odds of selling a novel to be made into a movie is actually better than selling an original screenplay. Go figure. That said, while I have had a LOT of close calls, there has yet to be a movie based on one of my novels...until now. I'm taking matters into my own hands, and you can help make it happen. Read below for more for details and a few bonus goodies.
DUST is a short film being funded via Kickstarter and is based on my upcoming 2015 novel, THE DISTANCE. The film parallels the beginning of the novel, following Peter, a regular guy visiting with his parents on the eve of the world's end. Except, for Peter, the night is just beginning.
For all the nitty gritty details about the movie, who is involved, how you can support it and what awesome goodies (including being a producer and having face-time with me) you can get for that support, visit the Kickstarter page.
What I can tell you now is that this is the very best way to get a full length feature made of one of my movies. My novels are very visual, often with film in mind, and making this short will really allow us to showcase those elements in a way that will attract Hollywood through the medium they understand most. The short will be taken to film festivals around the world, and it should open the doors to Hollywood (or other places that make films... Probably not Bollywood, though).
Before you hop on over to Kickstarter, let me make this final plea: in addition to supporting the campaign (or even if you are unable to), please spread the word. It's going to take a supreme fan effort to make this possible, so if you know anyone interested in indie and/or badass sci-fi films, let them know about DUST.
Well, I plan to back this project and hope this thing gets made...maybe Island 731 can be another film in the future :O)
731 was such an AWSOME book. I'm not good at expressing what I think about a book, like speaking on the writers style and whatnot, all I know is once I started reading this book I couldn't put it down. A film on this would probably be pretty gruesome, but I'd be interested in seeing it put to film. I did a bit of research online after reading this book and there are home real pictures from this time in history. Sad that humans can do these things for real.
So close to finishing this one but it's so cool and exciting that I don't want it to end...Hope there's a film or graphic novel in the works cause I totally want to see these creatures illustrated eventually :0)
