Yes, and such a voracious reader! A unique individual!

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Jackie was deeply grieving the loss of her husband last year. Then in January 2017, her beloved dog, Juneau, died. I guess it was all just too much for her heart.

I see lots of sad posts and condolences at her Facebook page.

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments I just learned from Facebook that Jackie passed away right before her 55 birthday. So Sad.

Linda (goodreadscomlinda_p) | 1251 comments Jackie was a smart woman. Loved to read.
I had the opportunity to meet her a few years ago and we watched a movie "P.S. I Love You."

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I was sorry to hear that Juneau had died, too. She never got over losing Ant, so I could see that breaking her heart thoroughly. Such a shame.

I spun up a lot of yarn out of Juneau's fur over a couple of years. I knitted a hat & scarf out of the first batch & then crocheted a hoodie-scarf out of the second for her. I still have a crocheted scarf from his fur. When I passed it around during my 'Sheep to Shawl' class at the SCA gathering a few weeks ago, everyone thought it was spun up out of alpaca, not malamute.

Jackie's sister also raises malamutes so hopefully she'll get one as a keepsake. Eric says they're too hot & scratchy for him.

Yes, Jackie was very smart and had a strong intellectual curiosity which drove her reading choices. I think I remember getting together with both Linda and Jackie at Linda's house several years ago. Too bad we didn't take pictures!

Glad you mentioned malamutes, Jim. I was trying to remember that word for Juneau. I finally looked it up at Wiki and found the following:
=====================================
"The Alaskan Malamute is a large breed of domestic dog originally bred for hauling heavy freight because of their strength and endurance, and later a sled dog. They are similar to other arctic breeds, such as the Greenland dog, Canadian Eskimo Dog, the Siberian Husky, and the Samoyed."
FROM: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alaskan...
====================================

It's so interesting, Jim, the way you made things from Juneau's fur!

Nina | 6069 comments What a lovely keepsake for Jackie's memory, Jim. You do good works sometimes when you least realize it.

Yes, Joy you were there as well. It was through you that I met Jackie.

Agreed - too bad we didn't take a picture.

Yes, Linda, now I remember.
The three of us watched the movie ("P.S. I Love You.") together.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I just realized I have a picture of the first scarf I made for Jackie here on GR. It's huge, made to her specifications from Juneau's fur & being modeled by my poor dog, Lily, sort of.

That's a great momento, Jim. I still can't believe that Jackie is gone.

Nina | 6069 comments I recall you doing that. How great that you made her so happy with your own hands, Jim.

Mary JL (maryjl) | 527 comments OH, NO! I just was this topic while searching. Jackie was the leader of another GR group I belong to---about movies and TV. And I read and enjoyed her posts here.

I am sorry to be so late and to have missed so much in our group.
June 2016 was my open-heart surgery and that took up most of my time till late fall.

My older brother, Joe, was diagnosed with incurable cancer in November 2016 and died Christmas Day 2016 in hospice. So for the first month of 2017 I did almost no reading or posting. I really missed all of you and I really will miss Jackie.
