Ten-year-old Annemarie and her best friend Ellen often think of life before the war. It's now 1943, and their life is filled with school, food shortages, and the Nazi soldiers marching through their hometown in Denmark. When the Jews are "relocated," Ellen moves in with Annemarie's family and pretends to be one of them, yet her life is still in danger.

This is a wonderful book. It is well-written and captures an important time in history from a kid's point of view. This is a tremendous way for kids to understand the impact of war as well as to have a discussion about what led to WWII and the Nazi occupation of so many countries.

I read this for school last winter (6th grade)! It was really amazing. Have you read Bud, Not Buddy (the other book we read as a class)?

It's actually in my lineup to read (the book of the month is by the same author). However, I think it would be great if you wrote a review and put it in a few folders.
