Yes :) although for me most books are subject to library holds so it will be +/- a week likely. I will be liberal with spoiler tags
Don't wait on me. I have a couple of other books starting that week but this is a reread for me, so I'll jump in where I can
what date would be ok for you Quinn? Please don't forget that 22 has Traitor's blade scheduled. And 1st of April the Rithmatist.
When are you guys starting on this one? I still need 2 days to finish Beyond the Shadows then I can get to it.
This is supposed to start today, but you can always start a little bit late. I am starting tonight!
I am a fast reader Jenna. I'll catch up. I was waiting to read this book from the time I finished Assassin's Quest but I got caught up in the Night Angel Trilogy. It is sooooo good that I couldn't stop reading it from beginning to end.
Am next on my hold at the library. The timing isn't great for me but going to see where I'm at when the hold comes in. Are you planning on doing the full trilogy?
I started yesterday with the audiobook. I was a bit confused, because I expected something more recognizable from the first triology. So it takes a bit to get used to the new story (also because of the quick start without a real introduction), but I like i so far :)
I am reading the book and I must admit I was also a little confused after reading a few pages wondering why it is so different from the Farseer setting. And then only I turned the book to read on the back cover: "a superb new epic from the author of the magical Farseer Trilogy, set far to the South of the Six Duchies." Well, serves me right...:).
I am at Chapter 2 right now and so far I like it though I'm gonna have to take out my dictionary again for the vocabulary related to ships. I don't know some of the terms even in my mother tongue, let alone in English so I'll have to study a bit.
The start is intriguing and I'm curious to see what the story is about. I love the description of the landscapes - I can picture them so easily in my mind!
I have just started this (life got in the way of starting earlier). I should be able to comment soon. :)
I'm at the beginning of Chapter 13 and I think I might just like it more than the Farseer - if that were even possible. I love the concept of Liveships - the connection between them and the humans, and the culture and again the concept of growing up and learning from mistakes but this time from a girl's perspective. I'm intrigued by the serpents and eager to know how they fit in the story. I feel for Paragon and wonder if Vivacia is heading the same road. I think Mrs. Hobb does a great job yet again in making you feel the injustice done to the characters and making you empathise and identify with them. There is not much action per-se in the book till now and yet i cannot seem to put it down. After reading Farseer I thought I wouldn't get caught in another trilogy this way very soon, but then came Night Angel that had me again from the first few pages and now this! I'm already hooked AGAIN!!!
I am 80% through by now and I can honestly say that it's been a very long time since a book has affected me this way.

I'm only on chapter 2 and I'm having a very hard time getting into this book. I read a couple pages and then decide to pick it back up again later and just keep doing that over and over.. I think I am in a reading slump... :(

Sadly, I think I'm going to have to put this book back on the the to-read shelf for now. I am glad you are enjoying it, Laura, and I hope I can have the chance to talk about with you in the future.
it's ok Jenna. I'll be glad to discuss it with you whenever you read it. I finished it already and I must admit I loved it. However, only you and Rob have commented on this thread until now about it so I don't think I'll be having a buddy reader for the second and third book of the trilogy. :(I started on the Mad Ship today and hope to finish the whole trilogy before the buddy read for Tad Williams. I wouldn't be able to wait longer anyway! It's that good! I find Hobb's writing brilliant, even if the action is less. There is so much to learn from her stories about human nature... she gives one so much to ponder upon...

haha Emma! how on Earth did you guess? After first hearing about the Rain Wilds in Ship of Magic I have started looking for the Rain Wild Chronicles. Already found them in a second hand bookstore and placed the order:). I should be getting them in 2 weeks time. I already have all her other books. That is i even have the Rain Wilds but as e-book and I prefer paperback. The Rain Wilds were the only paperback missing from my Robin Hobb collection. And of course her last book which i don't have yet in any format. I'm planning to read them all this year.:))

I do agree that I love her writing style. Hope you enjoy the rest of the series!

I'm still on the hold list at my library and just realized that they only have the first book so probably going to skip this for now.
Laura I'm so glad you're loving these!! For the record, I'd say read the tawny man before rain wilds so the chronology isn't screwed up. :)
