Read a book whose title has exactly 3, 4, or 5 words. Sub-titles can be counted or ignored.

Questions? Recommendations? Please post them here.

Bea I am considering The Jungle Books for this task. All editions of this title at BPL are J or assignment. This particular title is not on the Canon, so I went to Lexile. There are a wide variety of similar titles by Rudyard Kipling. Most are short and are age-ranged for younger kids. Lexiles vary greatly. The one that seems closest to my book (title matches exactly - ie, bookS) is ISBN13 9780192835031. It also matches approximately in length. It's Lexile is 1160. I think our rule is we take the highest Lexile, but I want to be sure. Thoughts?

Karen Michele Burns (klibrary) | 5293 comments Are hyphenated words counted as one word?

Is The Palm-Wine Drinkard a 3 word title?

Karin So, based on another book with a hyphenated word, The Bad-Ass Librarians of Timbuktu: And Their Race to Save the World’s Most Precious Manuscripts would be five words for the main title, since I don't have to count the subtitle?

Yes. That is a 5-word title.

Karin How about The Pickwick Papers ? This is how it is on the copy I'm reading (same cover and edition, even), but not how it is on Bloom's Western Canon, and I'm planning to use those style points.

We use the MPE for titles, so you're good with it for this. Nice combos, too!

Thanks! I'm sure you noticed there are a few--makes me glad I didn't get around to it in the Winter Challenge.

Sam (theliteraryhooker) | 1008 comments Would Stories: All-New Tales work or is the subtitle too generic? (The entire title is ridiculously generic!)

Rosemary | 4337 comments Can I check this one please: What Was She Thinking? Notes on a Scandal

It was originally published as "Notes on a Scandal" in the UK and "What Was She Thinking" in the USA - 4 words each. Then a movie was made of it, called "Notes on a Scandal". So now, the US version (most popular) has both titles on the cover, total 8 words.

If you click through, you'll see that "Notes on a Scandal" is in square brackets in the GR description and on the cover of the book, to show it's an alternative title. Does that work?

Thank you - my memory is still pretty good, but not infallible. ;-)
