Great book. Starts out deceptively in rather breezy tone, but as the facts unfold, very tragic. Of course, what else could be true of a story of the German occupation of Guernsey during WWII? Some real heroism is revealed. Very effective use of epistolary form--shows it can still be done consistently and very, very well. The form gives enough distance from some characters' internal lives to create emotional suspense. So glad to have read this one.

Sadly, I had to elect not to read this one. :-( Will have to slate it for another day. You certainly have made it sound very appealling, more so than I originally thought.
I wonder who else read it?

Also, there is a film of it, slated for 2018, titled simply Guernsey. It will star Lily James, Jessica Brown Findlay, and others from Downton. There is a romance involved as well, more than one in fact.

Yes! I must read it before then. I just watched the film, Suite Francaise last week (based on the book of the same name). It was really good. Michelle Williams is such a great actress. I was looking through my books yesterday and discovered I own the book. I need to read that one too.
