Reggia | 2538 comments Does anyone else use music to help their reading? I've found that I read much better, that is faster as well as better comprehension, with the right background music. Usually classical works best for me.

Here are two of my favorites from youtube:

Music for Reading: Chopin, Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, Debussy, Liszt, Schumann

Yvonne | 138 comments Derek and Brandon Feitcher on YouTube. they have hour long videos of just instrumental music based on themes. if I'm reading a fantasy I can listen to midevil music, sci-fi it's future tech music, historical Egyptian fiction, they have Egypt music too. Pretty good stuff, usually very relaxing.

Reggia | 2538 comments Cool idea -- I might try that as well!

Variations on a theme: One of my local bookgroups uses food as a theme; so we choose dishes based on the locale of the book's story.

Nina I like listening to Bach and birdsong as I read; especially if I'm not really into the book.

Reggia | 2538 comments Lol @ Dostoevsky

If I don't do a classical mix, then I often choose Mozart (esp if I'm trying to pick up a new concept or idea) or Canon in D (if the subject matter is not too serious).

Nina I just finished reading one of the best books ever, "A Gentleman in Moscow," and it would have been perfect tohave listened to Dostoevsky during that reading.

Reggia | 2538 comments Lol, Charly, indeed!

I'll remember that idea, Nina, when I get to A Gentleman... :)

Nicole | 1752 comments Good topic. It can depend on my mood and what I'm reading, but classical in general works as good background music. Also things like Mediaeval Baebes and "trance" type electronic music.

Yuri Sar (yurisar) Classical music for me as well, a bit of jazz, Julie Fowlis' songs -she sings in Scottish Gaelic; I used to live in Scotland 2000-2008- and I absolutely adore the album Wood by French artist Greg Baumont. He released it for free in Jamendo a few years back and I am glad I found out about it.
