The people were freezing to death because they were acclimated to the extreme heat around the equator of the world before it was remade. We have seen that this is extreme enough that they should have started freezing as soon as the world shifted at the end of the original Mistborn books, and in the scene where Kelsier shows up they've just run out of things to burn but haven't yet finished dying. The window here seems pretty small - a few months at most.
Yet at the end of Secret History - after the world is remade and the people have already started freezing to death - he's nowhere near ready to help them. He doesn't even have a body, and is just starting to work on figuring out the more detailed secrets of magic. The idea that he could gain all the knowledge and resources he would need before those people finished freezing to death makes no sense to me.
Of course, this seems like something Sanderson would have an answer for and so I'm assuming I misread something or am missing some simple solution. Anyone have any ideas?
