To Fire Called, the second installment of the Seeker's Tales, continuing the saga of Ishmael Wang, is just out in a Kindle version. This is the kind of release that will cause me to interrupt whatever else I was in the middle of reading.
I highly recommend The Gathering Edge. Loved the eARC! Trying to save To Fire Called until the weekend so that I don't stay up too late reading it.
I read Collapsing Empire. It's definitely a Scalzi book. If you like his other books, you'll like this.I just started Off Rock, which on its face seems certainly Space Opera adjacent if not solidly in the genre. The first two chapters are good.
Vanguard by Jack Campbell, is out today, the first in a new series.
"Jack Campbell returns to the world of the New York Times bestselling Lost Fleet novels with a new action-packed military science fiction series that explores the founding of the Alliance . . . and the men and women who fought to create it. "

I'm curious: is Old Man's War a good representation of Scalzi's work? It had good ideas, but I didn't care for it in the least. I hear rave reviews of his books and I don't know what to make of them lol.
Wondering the same thing, as I also didn't like Old Man's War. I didn't find it well written, but maybe that was because it was his first novel?
His writing has improved overall, but I think Old Man's War is definitely an excellent example of his writing. The good news is that there are a bajillion other books out there if Scalzi doesn't trip your trigger.
Debts of My Fathers
by Dan Thompson was released a few days ago. It is the sequel to Ships of My Fathers which I found well worth rereading.

Just released today: Flight of the Blackbird
by Blaze Ward. This is the fifth in his Jessica Keller series, first of which is
. Space opera, military SF, female protagonist. I enjoyed the first four books enough to reread them.

ERNEST CLINE IS WRITING A READY PLAYER ONE SEQUELhttps://bookriot.com/2017/12/11/ready...
Yesterday, Ernest Cline did a livestream Q&A at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in conjunction with the release of the first full-length trailer for Ready Player One, directed by Steven Spielberg. The Ready Player One book released in 2011 and Cline describes it as “if Willy Wonka were a video game designer instead of a candy maker and held his golden ticket contest inside the world’s greatest video game.” The concept, combined with the packed-to-the-max video game and pop culture references, has made the book a cultural phenomenon...

David Brin has recently released updated editions of his Uplift Saga series. I don't know whether the Goodreads database includes the new editions yet, but the major booksellers should have them.
Here is an excerpt from the new introductiion to Startide Rising, explaining his inspiration for the series.
