Welcome to August! This month, we have two great Books of the Month for discussion:
Fantasy: Mistborn The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson
Science Fiction: Consider Phlebas by Iain M. Banks
If you read these books, please let us know what you thought of them! Opinions, interpretations, questions, reviews, rants and raves --- all of them are welcome!
Because I didn't have the chance to re-read Consider Phlebas, I've asked Ron (who's been a member of the group for a long time) to lead the discussion. In the future, if you nominate a book and would like to volunteer to lead the discussion, let me know.
We also just closed the polls for our October BotMs, so we now have the schedule for the next couple of months:

And as a special treat, Janny Wurts, the author of the October Book of the Month, is a member of the group, so we'll be able to discuss the book with her and ask questions. I recently participated in a discussion of her novel The Curse of the Mistwraith in another group, and it was one of the best book discussions I've been in (and an excellent novel!), so I'm really looking forward to the October discussion.
As always, we have set up polls for you to register your opinion of our BotMs. Please take a moment to vote, as your votes decide which books move into our Hall of Fame. We need at least 10 votes for a book to eligible to enter the Hall of Fame. The polls stay open for 3 months, so there's plenty of time to cast or change your vote. Here are all the current polls.
The polls for our May books just ended, and this time BOTH books got enough votes to make it into our Beyond Reality Hall of Fame. (Well, one got into the Hall of Fame, and the other into the Hall of Shame... but at least there were enough voters!)
