Nazifa | 10 comments When reading the book "the shadow cabinet," it can imediately be noted that Rory, the protagonist, is a very special person. She contains the power to "see" things that most humans cannot, such as ghosts and also has the ability to Destroy them just by touching them, which puts her life in danger because it causes a group of people who also have the "sight" to go after her. Although it is unclear why the group specifically want Rory, it can be inferred that they want her to use her abilities for their unknown scheme. I believe that Jane, one of the main antagonists in the story and the person who kidnapped Rory's friend Charlotte want to use Rory to bring Sid and Sadie (people that took care of Jane when she was younger) back to life. I believe that since Rory can destroy ghosts, maybe there is a way to reverse the ability and bring back ghosts/resurrect them. After all, Rory did manage to bring the ghost of Stephan, a person in Rory's group, back to life instead of letting him pass over.

Speaking of Sid and Sadie, the way the twins died is kind of scary. They killed ten innocent people, took some blood from each of them and then drank it with poison?! What's the point in doing that? Why would Sid and Sadie purposely want to commit suiside? In previous books it was mentioned that The people in Janes group did not believe in death. Perhaps Sid and Sadie wanted to prove that death did not exist by killing (?) themselves and then bringing themselves back to life. However since they cannot come back to life by themselves (since they are already dead) they wanted Jane, who loves them both dearly to watch how to do rituals and then perhaps do the same ritual and bring them back to life? There are lots of possibilities to why Jane may want Rory but I think that bringing back people she loves is perhaps the reason.

Moving on, I wonder why Callum hates the fact that Rory bought Stephans ghost back to life. Shouldn't he be happy? He will be able to see his best friend once again so why does Callum sound so disappointed? In the text it was stated that "dead is dead. If you actually did bring him back, then you did the worst possible thing you could do to him. You got him into that accident. You should have let him go." Why does Callum seem to hate ghosts so much? Why does he not want his friend to come back to life? His reaction is quite surprising and confusing.

Tabeer Sajjad | 9 comments In addition to Nazifa, "The Shadow Cabinet" also presents the idea that in order to get the "sight", you need to face a near death experience. As the text states, "when Boo had the car accident that gave her the sight..." Evidently, Boo wasn't granted with the "sight" at birth but rather acquired it possibly because she was about to die and become a ghost but still hadn't completely died so because she survived she was able to see ghosts. Rory, on the other hand, is probably being chased after because she holds some kind of secrets that are reflected in her past experiences that she herself may have forgotten about, this possibly hinted because of how she had on multiple days, been fed sweets by Jane that had drugged her. About Jane, what had been interesting in the beginning of the book was that she had to continue to watch as the twins died because she was waiting for something to work, but what was the purpose for her to watch them die? Is it because there are actually variants of the ghost-seeing skill and it isn't just an ability to see them and possibly be able to "kill" them with a touch but something else that can only be unlocked by a certain event such as seeing another user die?

Concerning Rory's ability, when "Stephen had been dead...I had the power to pull him back- not stop him from dying, but to make him a ghost." While Rory isn't able to bring a person back to life, she's able to keep their conscience alive and while Stephen has "...been declared dead and has been in the cooling unit for a day...no signs of death." This is probably because he is technically still "alive" because of what Rory had done to make him become a ghost and because they haven't found him yet he's halfway between being alive and dead this being reflected in his body by how he isn't physically dead but he still doesn't have a pulse to deem that he's actually alive. Also, why had Dr.Marigold gone to retrieve Stephen's body? Why had the people at the hospital been unable to stop her when they had gotten a call from Thrope about the fact that he wanted to see the body and they should've known that he was coming? Hadn't the hospital have questioned Dr.Marigold when she was going to the bodies like she had been when she actually got there and didn't anyone think she was suspicious?
