Robin (tijgerlil) | 29 comments Welcome back Simon!!

I thought your comments on your individual libraries were recalling interesting. I am always interested how people sort their shelves.
I have so many books to read that I have all my to read books on my shelves in my study and everything read in the front room (books that I'm happy to lend...)

My to read books are arranged by genre, then alphabetical by author.

To read books are arranged more organically. Books I loved or inspired me are more visible. Books I didn't love are put towards the back...

That's probably too much information about shelving books, but I got so excited listening to you guys talk about yours I couldn't help myself!!

😊

Michael (mjforgit) For "Homegoing" I found that I needed to switch back and forth between the text and audio book in order to power through to the end.

And that is why I stopped. Life is too short to have to "power through" something. Sometimes I do, but I sure try not to.

Karen Brown (khbrown) | 19 comments Welcome back Simon! Loved the podcast episode and already looking forward to the next.

Thomas, you probably already know this, but I was listening to "Tea or Books" podcast and they mentioned Dean Street Press which has a new imprint: Furrowed Middlebrow. They loved two of the books recently republished - "Tom Tiddler's Ground" by Ursula Orange (great title and love the author's name) and "A Winter Away" by Elizabeth Fair. Going on line now to order them both and thought you might enjoy them too.

Lola | 21 comments Loved hearing the two of you back together again! The sound quality was great! So great that as I was listening at work, I literally LOLed when I heard Thomas yawn, causing all around me to turn and stare...it was...a moment.

I did love Homegoing, but totally agree re trying to "power through" a book. I won't do it anymore-even for a book club book. If I end up DNF'ing, I'll just say so at book club. Too many books, too little time as it is-if an "assigned" book (how I think of book club books when they annoy me or when time is short and I really just want to read something else) isn't working for me, down it goes. Sometimes, I do stick with a bad book too long because I'm sure it's going to turn around, but then it never does and I'm sorry I didn't just DNF it.

I have since discovered the mute button on my headset. Very handy. When we record it is usually a Sunday at 7 or 8 in the morning my time so I am a little yawn-y.

I understand why people stop books but I can't bring myself to do so. I've read many books where the ending made slogging through the whole thing worthwhile.

Other times not so much, but as I can't know that in advance I simply cannot stop reading something.

Otherwise I would have quit The Sudden Appearance of Hope, cause reading that was a struggle. Ending didn't do much for me either sadly.

I actually loved it because it showed how absolutely great the new audio is! I am not a morning person, so I am duly impressed that you record that early on a Sunday. Forget yawn-y...I'd probably be snoring ;)
