Thoughts?

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Do you mean the movie from a few years ago? Didn't think it was as bad as a lot of people did. Some of the humor worked. Green Lantern has never been my favorite world/focus. I also don't know much of the mythos so don't know how accurate they stayed.

Yes - that is the movie. It wasn't great but not nearly as bad as it was made out to be.
I thought that Sinestro was great.

Travis (travishiltz) | 487 comments It's biggest flaw is, I think, it tried to do too much. It jammed a trilogy's worth of story ideas into one movie and it never quite clicked.
Plus, too much CGI and why is Oa, the home of the biggest Lantern in the universe so dimly lit?
It was hard to see what was going on in some of this scenes.

Thought Ryan Reynolds was a good GL and would have no problem if they put him in the JLA movie they are heading for.

I agree - they definitely had too much - way too soon with the main villain.

Jeff | 425 comments I liked the movie. I'm not going to say it was the greatest thing around, but Im a huge GL fan. I have a collection of four sets of all nine Rings. There I've said it, lol.
I was so totally waiting for it. I wasn't disappointed at all, though I will admit and agree with Travis that yes its biggest flaw was trying to squeeze too many things into one movie.
They should have actually left out Paralax, because its story is way too deep to share with a multiple/ origin story movie.
But taking that out of the equation, It was a great move for me. The effect for Ryan Reynolds were good.
A lot of people ragged on the costume, but once again, so many didn't realize that the Green Lantern uniforms are actually Green constructs. How else would the whole Corp put on their suits in a hurry.
My only other complaint is the power battery. They didn't make it look the way it should have. I mean, the props people didn't even have to make one, there are full size replicas out there for sale that looked completely perfect. I mean I want one.

But other than that, I think most didn't really know much about the character aside of having a power ring.

There is talk about the move being rebooted, but since you might say that Green lantern is really the first movie that was supposed to headline the Justice League, they shouldn't just scrap it. All they have to do is build on it. hell, they could make a Green Lantern Corp movie.
And finally, I loved when Sinestro turned tot he Yellow lantern and ring. That was supposed to be the next movie.
I would have loved to see a Blackest Night film.

Have you read Green Lantern: Secret Origin by Geoff Johns? Pretty good... https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

message 8: by Jeff (new)

Jeff | 425 comments Yes I have. The Green Lantern run from that series all the way thru Blackest Night is some of Geoff Johns Best writing to date.

MY favorite color Lantern is the Orange Lantern Corp or aka Agent Orange.
I still wear my rings out. I's such a geek. I'll show you a pick of them I have a special Green velvet box containing them.

Post it here!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) What is special about the Orange? I'm kind of ignorant on the Green Lantern stuff

Orange is avarice, so there is only one Orange Lantern as he refuses to share the energy/rings with anyone else.

I'm more a fan of the Blue Lanterns, as they are the energy of hope and one of their members is a corgi.

message 12: by Jeff (new)

Jeff | 425 comments Of course the downfall to the Blue Lantern Corp is that their rings don't fire offensively unless in the proximity of a Green Lantern Crop member. The green rings are charged off the blue rings and supply the blue rings with the charge to fire blasts.

Ryan Reynolds did do a good job, but I always think of Blade 3 when I see him. Don't think that will ever change. I think you've hit the nail on the head for the movie's underwhelming response - just too much going on pushed into one movie.
