Tricia Douglas (teachgiftedkids) | 199 comments Hello! I'm Tricia and it seems like I've been with this group forever. I hide in the background most of the time, but read all the comments and most of the monthly authors. Even though I belong to several reading groups, this one gives me the most fun and easy-going attitude that I need! I'm a retired teacher out of Los Angeles. I taught gifted/high achieving eight year olds and loved it. My classroom had more books than our school library so I was constantly lending books out to my fellow teachers. Now all my books are with me at home and are overflowing my shelves. Even so, it's hard not to want to have every new book that comes out. Hopefully there are more of you like me out there! I'm glad we have this place to funnel our feelings!

message 3: by luvimoli (new)

luvimoli Hello! My name is Luvia, from Dominican Republic.

I recently discovered that the type of stories I love to read has a name and that is "cozy mysteries". I love chocolate, my kindle and paperbacks. Even though I don't get much time to read leisurely on my couch (my favorite way), I make do by reading before bed.

I hope to find great books over here and participate in enriching discussions with you all. Nice to meet you!

Angel | 14 comments Hi, my name is Angel. I'm a mom, avid reader, avid reviewer, avid blogger and published author. I grew up on cozy mysteries. I'm also in the process of writing a series of them. I also write several other genres besides cozy mysteries, but, I'll always have a special place in my heart for cozy mysteries. I can't get enough of them.

Betty (bettylouise54) | 582 comments Hi, I am Betty aka Betty Louise. I am a senior and in poor health. I have read most of my life. I now read mostly Cozies but read romances previously. I now longer can handle extreme violence. I usually read a book a day and do write reviews on each book I have read.

Alaine Allister (alaine_allister) | 3 comments Hi everyone! I can't remember if I introduced myself in the old thread, so apologies if I'm repeating myself. I'm an avid reader of both mystery and non-mystery genres. I also write, love to bake, watch way too many documentaries and enjoy travelling. I've been on Goodreads for a while but only log in every so often...I'm hoping to become more involved as this seems like a fun community.

message 7: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (rogue4) Hi Everyone, my name is Cathie, and I came across the cozy mystery books by accident, and am so happy I did. I am a mom, and an avid reader and baker! Hope to make lots of new friends here!

message 8: by Barb (new)

Barb *waving hello* I'm Barb, and I am addicted to reading :) Mom and I used to ride our bikes to visit the Bookmobile when I was a kid, and she steered me toward the mysteries, since that's what *she read most of the time. I now read (almost!) anything, but mystery is still my genre of choice, as you can tell by looking at Mt. TBR :) It's nice to "meet" all of you!

MarieBL Broussard-Landry (marie_broussard-landry) | 350 comments Welcome to all our new members! This is a lively, spirited and fun group. Since joining, I have learned about many new authors and books, and had interesting discussions about books I've read and want to read!

message 10: by A.R. (new)

A.R. Simmons (arsimmons) | 16 comments Hello to all.

I'm AR, a retired teacher and jack of all trades. I love mysteries of all kinds as long as they are not "edgy" or fleshed out with profane language, graphic violence, or explicit scenes. I grew up reading the duo known as Ellery Queen, also Agatha Christie, Erle Stanley Gardner, and later such authors as Tony Hillerman. I love suspenseful mysteries where the author lets the reader provide the images from his or her own imagination rather than subjecting them to lurid mayhem.
I write what I call "cozies with a bite." That is my favorite sub-genre, stories that put something precious to the reader in jeopardy. I confess to being unsophisticated in that I am addicted to happy endings. Well, Perry Mason always successfully represented innocent defendants, didn't he?

message 11: by Marcia (new)

Marcia Rosen (mgrosen) | 25 comments Hello,
I found owning a marketing agency was like being a detective for my clients by solving their business mysteries...love reading mysteries and watching some, especially on PBS, British ones very well done. I enjoy books by Hillerman, Parker, Christie, E.Peters, etc. The writing, plots, intrigue and good characters.
I've been writing my own mystery series now for past two years, "Dying to Be Beautiful" based in The Hamptons. I lived there for 14 years and the place is full of mysteries.
I still work helping authors market their books but I will make every effort to participate in discussions. Thank you, Marcia (M. Glenda Rosen).

Lilli | 1 comments Hi, I am Lidija from Switzerland and I joined a few weeks ago. I love cozy misteries and discovered the books of Joyce and Jim Lavene last year, now I read them all. Sadly, Mrs and Mr Lavene passed on, I had a lot of fun reading them and I am looking for books similar to theirs. I also love Ngaio Marsh, Dorothy Sawyers and JoAnn Carl amongst others. If you have suggestions for me, I will be pleased to try them.

Welcome! Did you read the books they wrote as J.J. Cook? I loved the Sweet Pepper Fire Brigade books they wrote under that name.

message 16: by Aymee (new)

Aymee (asphaltcowgrrl) I'm Amy and I never really read mysteries until I came into work one day and found that a co-worker had left a James Patterson novel on my desk. Plumbers read? Who knew. I've been hooked ever since. I will read pretty much anything however.

Lee Strauss | 7 comments Hi!

I'm Lee Strauss from Canada (and sometimes Germany). I just found this group and I'm excited to discover new cozy mystery books. I'm also an author. My newest series is the Ginger Gold Mystery series, cozy historical mysteries set in 1920s England. If you're a fan of authors who wrote while living in that era such as Agatha Christie and Dorothy L. Sayers, or contemporary authors who set their stories in the early 20th century like Rhys Bowen and L.B. Hathaway, you're sure to like Ginger Gold!

Thanks!

Irene Sauman | 164 comments Hi, I'm Irene. I'm from Western Australia. I've been a member of this group for a couple of years but never got much involved. Intending to rectify that starting with the reads for May. Have just bought Outfoxed on kindle. May not get to the other title. Cost comes into it sometimes unfortunately and they are not in my library.
Particular favourite cozies are by British writers.

message 19: by Jodie (new)

Jodie | 1 comments Hello,

I am Jodie, an Australian currently living in Denver, CO. I have been a cozy addict since reading all the Poirot novels when I was a kid. I would love any cozy recommendations you have. I prefer strong protagonists to struggling drug addicts and alcoholics.

I write, too. The Ruby Rosemount trilogy was published by Scholastic, and I have just completed my first cozy for YA. It is currently being looked at by an agent. (Fingers crossed!) It is set in a misty seaside town in Maine. It has the English small-town feel that I love and a grand, though dilapidated, mansion as well as a palatial glasshouse in which the brother breeds moths. Liberty the protagonist is a misfit and unacknowledged genius. All my favorite things rolled into one book. :)

It's nice to meet you all!

message 20: by R.E. (last edited Apr 28, 2017 03:48PM) (new)

R.E. Banks Good day --
My name is Banks and I love mysteries, but I have a hard time finding ones that meet my standards of clean. (Even Cat Among the Pigeons I had to put down for that reason.) I'm currently writing a fantasy series but I want to go into romance and mysteries after I'm done with it. As you can see, I am a big fan of the Sherlock Holmes books by Arthur Conan Doyle.

Currently I am doing a petition to block the Popular Photos feature on Goodreads, which displays explicit and sexist images that I desire to block. If you want to learn more the group link is here.

I'm Amanda, and I currently live in Tasmania, Australia. It's late at night, and I'm trying to find my next read as I can't seem to go to sleep without having something to read. I love laying in bed with the fire going and trying to ignore the kiddos trying to kill each other while I have 'down time'.

I LOVE them and I read them fairly often. When I saw this group I knew I had to join in the fun. I have already bought May's books and I can't wait to get started!
Just as a fun fact, my favorite cozy series is the Embroidery Mystery series by Amanda Lee. :)
Nice to meet you all!!

Carrie | 0 comments Hi everyone!
I'm Carrie, a writer and lover of cozy mysteries. I think of myself as a big reader--and I love all mysteries not just cozy--but then I look at some of the posts and see that some members read a book a day! Wow, I am impressed. Someday that will be me....I love hearing what books people are interested in. I am based in NYC and there are not many people around my neighborhood who identify themselves as cozy readers. I'm excited that it is mystery week on Goodreads. Should be fun to learn about what everyone is reading. Thanks! Carrie

Pauline Wharton | 23 comments Hello, I'm Pauline from the UK and until recently I didn't know what cozy mysteries were, though as it turns out I've written one - and read lots. I get fed up with the modern trend where we have more women police detectives, but they all seem to have been raped or suffered abuse as children. I like interesting characters and a good plot, and I'm always on the lookout for new authors.

Harriet Steel Hello Everyone,
I live in the UK and I'm married with two grown-up daughters.
I read books from quite a few genres but as I don't enjoy anything with a lot of violence (too much of it in the real-life news) when I want a mystery, I usually chose a cozy. I interpret that word pretty widely though and include Golden Age writers like Agatha Christie and Dorothy Sayers as well as pets and pastries mysteries. Above all, I like good writing, interesting characters, atmospheric settings and a generous dollop of humour. I want to feel good at the end of the book and have had a workout for those "little grey cells"! I'm looking forward to discovering sme new authors here. and meeting fellow fans,
Best wishes,

Harriet

I went to Tulane and fell absolutely in love with Louisiana. It's my favorite place and I dream of moving to NOLA or south Louisiana someday. That's why I set my CAJUN COUNTRY MYSTERY series there. It's inspired by the extraordinary places and people I've been lucky enough to experience and meet.

I am from Vienna, Austria.

You may also ask me anything you like ;)

Hannah Brown | 17 comments Hi everyone!
I've only just joined, Love the idea of a 'cosy mystery' group. I absolutely love cosy mysteries, they happen to be my favourite genre. My favourite thing to do is to curl up in an armchair with a hot chocolate engrossed in a good mystery! Oh, and with my little cat Rosie, curled up on my knee:)
I'm 13, I love animals, especially cats and sloths!!! My favourite authors at the moment are Agatha Christie and Arthur Conan Doyle (author of Sherlock Holmes)

Can't wait to join in discussions with fellow book worms!!!

message 42: by Ellen (new)

Ellen Byron | 18 comments Hannah, I love that you're thirteen. Us cozy authors are always thinking about where the next generation of readers will come from. Cozies are perfect for teen readers. I developed my passion for mysteries reading Agatha Christie when I was fourteen. There are lots of cozies you'd enjoy. I recommend a website called cozy-mystery.com. You can search by subject, so if you like animals, you'll find a whole bunch of series featuring them. I see Toni LoTempio is on this board. She writes the Nick and Nora series, which features cats.

Hi Ellen! Thanks for the recommendation, I'll certainly check that website out, it sounds great! Anything that features cats is always a winner for me! The black and white film adaption of Miss Marple starring Margret Rutherford started my love of mysteries and what made me want to discover the books! I'm slowly collecting all the Poirot series, absolutely love them, but will be really interested in discovering new authors as I enter into the wonderful world of cosy mysteries! Thanks:)

Victoria Prescott (victoria_prescott) | 56 comments Hello all. I'm new to the group. I live in England. History has always been my great love, I research it, teach it and write it, both fact and fiction.

I've enjoyed crime/mystery novels since my mum got me into Agatha Christie when I was about thirteen. I don't read cosy mysteries exclusively, but I don't like a lot of violence and gore, and I find a cosy mystery just the thing for when you want something not too demanding, as you know there'll be no unpleasant surprises. Looking forward to meeting new people and discovering some new authors here.

Lynda | 1 comments Good Morning all!

This is my first group to join on GoodReads! I am a mystery fiend, the only one in my household. Alas, it is difficult to discuss the books I'm reading with my husband or son. So I am looking forward to having many discussions with this group! I live in Massachusetts and try to get most of my reading material on my Kindle.

I also love to read "classics", historicals, and fantasy books.
