I remembered my name – Mara. But, standing in that ghostly place, faced with the solemn young man in the black coat with silver skulls for buttons, I could recall nothing else about myself.

And then the games began.

The Messenger sees the darkness in young hearts, and the damage it inflicts upon the world. If they go unpunished, he offers the wicked a game. Win, and they can go free. Lose, and they will live out their greatest fear.

But what does any of this have to do with Mara? She is about to find out . . .

I'm going to read this duology during the Dewey's readathon, so am actually going to really rely on the comments I make here, when my sleep deprived brain tries to write reviews after 24 hours of straight reading. Haha!

It's almost 3am and I'm just about to start Messenger of Fear, although I'm nervous about the warning for sensitive readers this comes with!!

1/4 of Messenger of Fear: (view spoiler)[Off to a very intriguing start and I am really enjoying the evocative, narrative style but the characters all seem very stereotypical, so far. I also HATED the scene with the poor pup :( (hide spoiler)]

2/4 of Messenger of Fear: (view spoiler)[I was hoping for the pace to pick up and to have some answers, by this point.
I am enjoying this but my suspended belief is at breaking point. (hide spoiler)]

3/4 of Messenger of Fear: (view spoiler)[The suicide that haunts the story line makes this such a sad, sad tale. I hope it turns out it can be prevented! (hide spoiler)]
