So, this will be coming to theaters soon! Who plans to go out and see it? Did you read this book for school, your own entertainment, or have you not read it yet? Like the casting? Think it'll be true to the book?

I just read The Giver (I know, I was late to the party) and decided to watch the trailer for the movie, since why not?! I just read the book, let's see how the movie's going to look.

I can already tell that the movie will not follow the book just by the stupid trailer.
So, yeah, I probably won't go see it. I cannot stand it when movies don't follow the book.

I've actually never read the book. :/ I need to. It's not that long and everyone keeps telling me how great it is...

I finally got around to reading it a few weeks ago. Now I definitely know what you mean about even the trailer not adding up. :/ Jonas looks like he's seventeen instead of twelve, lol. I'll prolly still see it, just for funsies, though...

I might actually end up seeing it. My brother kind of wants to see it (he read it in school years ago and liked it) and I usually tag along to the movies to he goes to see.

I love The Giver, but the movie trailers don't seem to be particularly faithful to the novel. That being said, it still looks like an interesting movie, merely as a film and not as an adaptation.

(only read if you've read The Giver): (view spoiler)[I'm curious as to how they're going to do the no-color thing. That was one of the big parts of the book, at least for me, learning that color had been eradicated for the purpose of this ridiculous Sameness. If they show it in black-and-white at the outset, the surprise will be ruined. If they show it in color for the audience and as B-W through Jonas's eyes or something, it'd be slightly odd.
I'm not terribly impressed by the cast, but obviously my judgments are far from final since I've only seen the trailers. Jonas, as Brittany said, looks way older than 12. Fiona appears to have a much bigger part in the movie, and I don't even know what they're planning to have Meryl Streep do. "The people have to right to choose, to choose wrong," she said in a trailer. It's been a little while since I've read the book, but I don't think that happened xD
I'm also curious about Taylor Swift's part as Rosemary. Since Rosemary is supposed to be dead, maybe the Giver will transfer a memory of her to Jonas?
Not sure what that whole spaceship thing was about...

I had to read this for my Young Adult Literature class during senior year, and just nope!

I'm sorry, but this is a pathetic excuse for an adaptation. It looks terrible. Nothing makes sense. Likes why is Jonas so old? Ugh.

I know that a lot of the cast members are really proud of it and everything, but it's not what I was expecting at all. I was so angry when I saw the trailer.

Me too. My dreams are for all adaptations to be exactly like the book, extra points if the cast looks like the characters do in my imagination, but unfortunately that can't be the case, haha.

Honestly I was a bit surprised when I learned of the movie coming out... The Giver still doesn't strike me as the type of book you'd turn into a movie.

I'd like to read the book before watching the movie... so I'm going to read the book first
