Mini Challenge: Give the Gift of Reading
The Westfield Athenaeum is my local free (and not town operated) library. They are a library but they are so much more than just a place to check out books. In addition to storytime, book groups, summer reading clubs, and other programs you might expect at any library they also show free family movies, sponsor lunch concerts, and hold craft workshops. They have a small local history museum and an art gallery. As a homeschooling family access to the books through the library's collection and their extensive interlibrary loan network is invaluable. I have been taking my son to the Athenaeum at least weekly since he was six months old and could go to his first storytime. We love the Westfield Athenaeum!
Hour 5 - 12:00 pm Just got home from Noah's karate class where I was able to read while I waited.

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
There are too many to choose!
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
Tea. I have a horrible sore throat so its hard to actually eat anything.
4) Tell us a little something about yourself
I'm a grad student in my last semester. I have a 10 year olsd son who usually reads with me for at least part of the day.
5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?
It looks like I won't be listening to an audiobook today. My library card has locked me out of Overdrive. Probably because I checked out too many books from the library yesterday. Two books over my limit...oops!

Is Noah reading along again this year?I saw a lot of good books on your TBR -- I loved Nimona and Through the Woods, and remember 84 Charing Cross Rd very fondly. Have fun and good luck reading through the interruptions. I remember when my kids helped with readathon, although I liked it when they interrupted their reading to fetch me snacks :-)

I loved The Wrath and the Dawn! I flew through both audiobooks in less than 24 hours. I really enjoyed Shadow & Bone too. I read it so long ago that I need to reread it before I can move onto the rest of the series! Enjoy!
Oh man, I feel so out of date with the reading community. I didn't recognize any of the books on your list. Good luck and I hope you enjoy them :)

It is overwhelming trying to pick who to support for the "cheers" challenge so I'm starting with other Liz/Elizabeths - which there aren't too many! (might just be us actually, here on goodreads at least)
Gemina is also on my list! hoping to at least start it before the 'thon is done. Good luck!

Great list!! I want to read Circe but I don't think I'll be able to get to it till 2019. I own quite a few on your list and haven't read them yet! I have Paper Girls Vol 1-3 on my list and Saga Vol 1! Good luck!
Opening Survey (playing catch up)1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
Western Massachusetts
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
All of them! And as always I know I won't have enough time.
3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
I actually don't have any planned this time around.
4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
I'm a single mom with a ten year old homeschooler, who will also be reading.
5) This is our VERY first Reverse Readathon! How does it feel in your time zone?
It was so different to have the reading start at 8pm instead of 8am. I was hoping this would make the night hours easier.
Mid-Event Survey
1. What are you reading right now?
2. How many books have you read so far?
I'm still on my first. Too many interruptions!
3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon?
I wish I had time for all of them!
4. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those?
I lost most of the first half of the readathon to interruptions. At readathon start time, I was at an event that included a Boston Symphony Orchestra concert (which was fabulous!). I brought along my book and started reading a little early while we waited for the concert to start and during intermission. I was so tired after we got home that I was only able to do a little reading before I fell asleep. But I started reading again early this morning.
5. What surprises you most about the Reverse Readathon so far?
It wasn't any easier to stay awake during the night. Sigh.
Hi Elizabeth, how,s your readathon going? Interested to know what you think of Circe its on my TBR list.

      Finished:

I liked Circe a lot. My son recently studied ancient history so we read a bunch of Greek myths last year and this was an interesting retelling from a different perspective. It was a lighter read than I was expecting (probably from reading so many of the standard versions), but that's not always a bad thing.
Nice to know its an easy read. I would recommend her first novel The Song of Achilles if you haven't read it yet. Your Haiku book is a great choice, I hadn't thought to add any poetry! Next time maybe. :)

Song of Achilles is on my TBR. I've heard its really good. I usually have a book of poetry in my TBR for the readathon. I find that I stop paying attention if I read too much poetry at one time, but it makes for nice mini breaks between books or chapters of other things.
Elizabeth wrote: "5. What surprises you most about the Reverse Readathon so far?It wasn't any easier to stay awake during the night. Sigh..."
Agreed!! I'm in southern NH, howdy neighbor!, and I totally agree, night was not easier. I think the full day of work really got me. If I had been able to sleep in and enjoy the day off or had enough time to maybe take a nap beforehand, I might've been able to stay up past midnight. But I couldn't! lol

Yup. For me Friday was a normal day with normal responsibilities, plus taking my kid to an event and the hour long drive home at 10:30 pm. I could have used a pre-readathon nap. Maybe next time. :)

Closing Survey!
1. Which hour was most daunting for you?
I crashed somewhere around hour six.
2. Tell us ALLLLL the books you read!
See above.
3. Which books would you recommend to other Read-a-thoners?
All four were good light reads.
4. How did you feel about this first-ever Reverse Readathon? Should we do it again?
I loved it! I enjoyed the fact that it was more relaxed, and because there were fewer participants I felt I had more interaction with other readers in the Goodreads group. The time reversal gave the readathon a different feel, which I kind of liked. Also, I thought the cheering challenge was a great idea.
5. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? Would you be interested in volunteering to help organize and prep in October?
I'm definitely planning to participate, and I'm happy that I only have to wait three months for the next one instead of six.

This will be my ninth readathon (my first was April 2013 and I can hardly believe I've done so many), but this will be my first time posting my updates in this group. I'm looking forward to enjoying some of the more social aspects of the group. This will also be my nine-year-old son Noah's ninth readathon. I'm so excited to participate tomorrow.
