That will forever be one of my favourite moment in ONTD history! I almost said that to one of my coworkers once when he was asking which of us did something, I had to stop myself. He wouldn't have gotten it (I think?!?)I'm thinking of reading The Girl Who Was Supposed to Die (I was supposed to do it for a reading challenge when it first came out and failed), The Count of Monte Cristo (I've only read a French comic of it in grade 10 and by read I mean I watched the movie and pretended I knew what was going on), Sybil Exposed: The Extraordinary Story Behind the Famous Multiple Personality Case, or The Poet and the Murderer. Watch me read something else entirely though, lol.
oh man i have so many books right now but none of them fit this challenge! i have to decide if im gonna spend money to buy something that fits or if i'll just skip this month. hmm...
I think I will read The Count of Monte Cristo for this one! Alyssa, if you have a kindle (or a kindle app on your iPad, say), I'm pretty sure you can download it for free if that were your pick.
I remember someone on ONTD recommended The Art of the Con: The Most Notorious Fakes, Frauds, and Forgeries in the Art World for this month, it looks very interesting!!
This is a bit of a tricky theme so if anyone has suggestions, do share them!

If any of you feel like punching a wall any time soon I would suggest The Woman Who Wasn't There: The True Story of an Incredible Deception
I want to read The Count of Monte Cristo but I am a bit intimidated as it's sooo long. But I love the movie and I have not read a classic in a while, so hopefully I will battle it out.
So I found The Lies of Locke Lamora on this list, and if it's okay for the theme, I'll read it. People seem to love it or hate it.
I will be reading Based on a True Story by Delphine de Vigan. I'm picking it up this weekend and excited to start!!!

Yeah, I think it's ok for the theme. (and I'm in the love it camp)

I'm so excited for all of you reading The Count for the first time. It's one of my favorites, I love it! I think I'll join in reading Lamora.
Dessi wrote: "I want to read The Count of Monte Cristo but I am a bit intimidated as it's sooo long. But I love the movie and I have not read a classic in a while, so hopefully I will battle it out."It's actually a really fast and fun read! You'll be surprised how quickly you finish it.
I'm going to read American Heiress: The Wild Saga of the Kidnapping, Crimes and Trial of Patty Hearst.
Ooo maybe I'll do Lies of Locke Lamora. I was also thinking about doing either The Cursed Child or Fantastic Beasts...(view spoiler) If anyone wants to correct me on either of those, I'm up for it. But I liked how it tied into the theme lol
I have absolutely no idea what I want to do for this month. The book that most appealed to me was A Daughter's Deadly Deception: The Jennifer Pan Story but it's not available at my library or for a loan. I think I might be in the mood for something kind of true crimey but I don't know exactly what I want to get :(
I loved Locke Lamora and since I'm up to The Republic of Thieves in that series I was definitely thinking about pulling it out for this month, I'd be super surprised if there was no impersonation in that book lol. Also, someone on that post suggested The Masqueraders and it's been on my to-read list too, so I might do them both (I've been itching for another romance)also, every time I see the theme I lose it lmao what a classic

Hmm, yes, having seen the film, I know that Fantastic Beasts (the screenplay) would fit the theme. But I don't know anything about TCC.

I grabbed The Fairy Ring off that goodreads list of hoaxes. Appears that it's aimed at children, but the subject matter seems interesting. I'm also thinking about re-reading Maledicte for this month.

I just bought The Lies of Locke Lamora on my kindle the other week ($2.99 sale!) so I'll read that for this challenge as well! It's been on my TBR list for quite some time, now I have an excuse to actually pick it up.
I got my May and June picks mixed up and already finished The Talented Mr. Ripley. Very easy read, but fun and engaging...definitely recommend if anyone is still looking for a June pick!
Does The Wolf of Wall Street count? I want to read The Woman Who Wasn't There: The True Story of an Incredible Deception but I'm having trouble finding an available copy.
I already got The Man in the Rockefeller Suit: The Astonishing Rise and Spectacular Fall of a Serial Impostor from the library and I'm so excited to read it. I loved when the ladies on the MFM podcast talked about this guy and I'm ready to get into it more.

ummm, I'm gonna go with a no on The Wolf of Wall Street... since it is more about Wall Street crimes?

sorry I didnt respond to your text about it J. I was gonna say it doesnt fit. his financial schemes don't really fit the theme for the month
So I accidentally met the theme in the quick cozy mystery I was reading. Haha, I knew I wouldn't have to worry too much about it if I picked a mystery. :pBut still trying to go HP theme because, "always."
Okay. I'm going to read The Woman Who Wasn't There: The True Story of an Incredible Deception. I got my hands on a physical copy and I'm already pulled into this story.
I decided to go with The Count of Monte Cristo and I am regretting that decision only fifty pages in. Oop@me
I saw someone recommend The Likeness but now I'm wondering if I need to read the first book or not...Another option I'm considering is Cuckoo Song because I have it on my TBR list and I think it goes with the theme. I'm so behind on this challenge, though ;-;
Courtney wrote: "I decided to go with The Count of Monte Cristo and I am regretting that decision only fifty pages in. Oop@me"
why? is it boring? I was about to pick it up but I don't feel like I can commit to that big-ass book right now lol

I'm just struggling to pick up the flow of the writing. But that could just be me.
Nicole wrote: "I saw someone recommend The Likeness but now I'm wondering if I need to read the first book or not...Yes, this is what I was wondering as well. Hmm.
Upon researching further, it seems as if you do need to read In The Woods first. Gah.

Could be the translation, too (I imagine you're reading in English?).

It could be. I just feel like there's a lot of unnecessary words but that's sort of the style of the era I guess. I had the same problem with Pride and Prejudice so i think it's just me not being smart enough tbh.
I'm jumping into this challenge halfway through the year LOL. Currently reading both The Handmaid's Tale and the Cuckoos Calling for January's theme. Should finish one of them by Thursday week and then have to pick a book for June. Determined to also finish February to May as well 😁.
i'm hoping that the book i'm reading now, The Doll's House will count, as the premise is the killer pretends to be his victims via text/social media so their families don't report them missing (and the story follows him doing this to one specific victim)otherwise i think i may skip this month - i have too many books in my TBR pile to buy another just for this month's challenge :\
Also - heads up if anyone is still looking for a book to read. I just picked up Mistborn: The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson and it fits this month's theme. There are impostors and an identity thief. I haven't finished it yet but I'm really enjoying it. It's a bit of The Lies of Locke Lamorra meets the jacobins, with magic.
Rachel wrote: "Sounds like that counts to me, too! also. now I want to read that to, Alyssa!"It's really good so far! it moves really quickly - its part of a detective series but i havent read the first couple books and i am not confused or anything so i think it's fine as a stand-alone.
Okay, so I'm still only a third of the way through The Count of Monte Cristo (so looooong but really enjoying it!). I did finished Fight Club though... don't suppose that could count for this month? Would Tyler Durden count as an imposter?
Lucie wrote: "Okay, so I'm still only a third of the way through The Count of Monte Cristo (so looooong but really enjoying it!). It is really good but i think i hit a slow part and have been struggling a bit (plus i started Rich People Problems oops). i will keep reading it though, better finish it another month than never haha.
