Princess Emilia | 2280 comments Mine and Queen of Narnia's (anyone can join, if they ask first)

Princess Emilia | 2280 comments Mishi pushed open the door to the public women's restroom of her uncle David's restaurant and stopped in front of the mirror to tighten the ponytail perched on the top of her head. She sighed. The loose fitting, collared shirt she had to wear did her no favors, but at least the dress code allowed heels, which made a satisfying clicking noise as she turned out of the restroom. She glanced at her rose gold Michael Kors watch. Her shift would be starting soon, but it was Monday morning and there was hardly anyone there at her uncle's affordable family restaurant. The place was called "Dave's Place." How original.

message 3: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) Jordan's family had decided to go to Dave's Diner for breakfast, before they go to meet his little brother, Peter, new doctor.
"Do you think they'll have chocolate chip pancakes as good as Chef Maddie's?" Peter asks.
Jordan chuckles, "I don't think anyone can beat Maddie's." he ruffles his brother's hair.
"That's true." He laughs and pushes my hand away.
His family walks through the doors of the diner, and wait for someone to show them to a table.

Princess Emilia | 2280 comments Mishi barely glanced up to see the family that walked into the restaurant. "You can sit wherever you'd like." She gestured towards the empty room. "I'll be right with you."

message 5: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) Jordan glances up as the girl walks away. "Alright, pick a table Peter."
Peter leads them to a table by a window, and they all sit down.
Peter picks up a menu, "They do have chocolate chip pancakes." he nudges his brother beside him.
Their father chuckles, and shakes his head at them.

Princess Emilia | 2280 comments A few minutes later, Mish strode over to their table carrying four menus. After setting down their menus and getting their drink orders, she was about to leave but stopped herself when her uncle came out to serve another table. He always got on her case about being more pleasant with the customers.
"Soo," She searched her brain for smalltalk. "You guys just passing through?" She tried to sound cheery.

message 7: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) Jordan glances up at his mother and notices her smile faltering slightly. He turns to the waitress, "No, we just moved to town." he smiles.
Peter looks up at the waitress, "Are your chocolate chip pancakes the best in the world?"
Jordan chuckles, "That would be pretty hard to do, Peter."
Peter rolls his eyes and sighs. "Fine the best in the United states."

Princess Emilia | 2280 comments She gave the kid a half smile. "Oh definitely." They were actually the only good thing on the menu. The cook somehow managed to even ruin bacon. No one else shared her opinion, though. She guessed Alabamians didn't have very sophisticated tastebuds. She would kill for a good sushi place; they had them on every corner back home in New York. "Welcome to the town." She added as an afterthought as she jotted down the rest of the orders "I'll be back with your food."

message 9: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) "Thank you." Their father says.
Jordan looks to his brother, "You ready for today?"
Peter nods, "I know everything will be ok." he smiles.

message 10: by Princess Emilia (new)

Princess Emilia | 2280 comments Mish escaped into the back room labeled "employees only" after giving Franklin, the chef, the orders and pulled out her phone to read her texts. She had one text from Cassie that read "Still don't have a date for tomorrow's party! At this point I'll take just about anyone."
She started to roll her eyes, but then an idea struck her.

She returned to the table, skillfully balancing two plates on each arm. "Here you go. Enjoy the best chocolate pancakes on this side of 'Bama." She smiled at Pete. "You." She pointed to the guy who was most likely the little kid's older brother. "You're about my age, yeah?" She went on before he answered, "There's this beginning of summer party on the lake tomorrow if you wanna come. I can introduce you to some other people your age." She looked at him hopefully.

message 11: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) "I don't know-" Jordan started to say, before Peter interrupted.

"You should go!" Peter smiles at his brother, then smiles at the waitress. "Come on it will be fun!" He whispers and nudges his brother.

Jordan looks to his parents, his dad nods his head. "You can go if you want to, Jordan."

Jordan knows there will be some talk about it later, but decides to go for it. "Alright, I'll go. Do you have something I could write my number on?"

message 12: by Princess Emilia (new)

Princess Emilia | 2280 comments She tore out a paper from her notepad and handed him a pen. "I'm Michelle, by the way. Or Mishi. Whatever you prefer. What do I call you?"

message 13: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) He takes the paper and pen. "I'm Jordan, just Jordan." he chuckles.
After writing his number down, he hands the paper and pen back to her. "I guess I will see you tomorrow, Michelle."

Peter watches them, smiling. Tugging his beanie back over his head more, he starts to dig into his pancakes. "Mm, these are pretty good! You were right Mishi!" He continues to shove the pancakes in his mouth.

message 14: by Princess Emilia (last edited May 02, 2017 07:04PM) (new)

Princess Emilia | 2280 comments "Glad you like 'em, kid." She bit back a chuckle. "I'll see ya, Jordan. You can meet up with my friends and me at my uncle's house an hour before and we'll all leave together." She waved and turned around. Once she was out of sight she pulled out her phone. "I think I just solved your problem." She texted Cassie.

message 15: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) Jordan nods and watches her walk away for a moment, then turns back to the table. His dad looks at him.
"I know we don't need to tell you this, but be careful and don't get into trouble. We trust you son." his dad says.

Jordan nods, "I know, and thank you dad." he turns to start eating his pancakes.

"You think Mishi's cute don't you?" Peter whispers to Jordan, as their parents start talking.

Jordan rolls his eyes and bumps shoulders with his brother, "Shut up and eat your pancakes."

Peter laughs, and shoves a big bite into his mouth.

message 16: by Princess Emilia (new)

Princess Emilia | 2280 comments The following day, Mishi put on her favorite shorts -- high waisted and flowy with black and white stripes -- and a tight white tank top, then pulled her hair up into a messy bun, purposely letting a few wisps fall out around her face.
"Good enough." She murmured.
"Cuuute." Someone cooed from behind her.
Mish turned around and found Jamie peering through the door, Cassie approached behind her.
"So who's this new friend you're gonna introduce us to?" Cassie's voice took a curious tone.
"He should be here any second now, Cass." Mish threw on her sandals, "We can meet him on the porch."
Mish glided down the porch steps with the two girls following and sat on the second step.

message 17: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) The doctors appointment had went well, and the doctor was very optimistic about Peter being able to beat the sickness raging inside of him.

The next day, Jordan was playing minecraft with Peter before he left to meet Mishi. He was wearing dark brown cargo shorts, with a captain America shield t-shirt. He pulled his car in front of the address his phone had led him to. Grabbing his phone to text Mishi, he noticed some girls on the front porch, and Mishi was one of them. He got out of his car and waves at them. "Hello," he walks up to the porch.

message 18: by Princess Emilia (new)

Princess Emilia | 2280 comments "Hey, Jordan!" She waved at him as she walked over to me him. "These are my friends Cassie and Jamie."
Cassie shot him a friendly smile. "Hiya."
"We're gonna walk from here." Mish said absentmindedly as she glanced down at her phone. She didn't want to seem rude, but she was hoping for a text back from Joel. He was also supposed to meet them at her uncle's but changed his mind at the last minute.
"We like to walk the rest of the way to the lake because the trails here are really nice." Cassie explained.
"Tourists love it." Jamie added.

message 19: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) Jordan smiles at the girls, "I used to hike at a park near where I lived in Indiana, so that sounds wonderful." he says. "Lead the way, ladies."

message 20: by Princess Emilia (new)

Princess Emilia | 2280 comments "You're from Indiana?" Cassie did that thing with her voice where she tried to sound casual when fishing for information. "What brings you all the way here in Alabama?"

message 21: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) "Well," Jordan says, scratching his head. He should've known this would come up. It's not that he didn't mind telling people about it. It's just, he wanted his brother to live as normally as possible. Jordan didn't anyone to pity his brother or his family. "My brother, he has cancer. There is a treatment center down here that was better than what we had in Indiana. My dad was also able to transfer his job down here. So we moved." he smiles, trying to lighten the mood.

message 22: by Princess Emilia (new)

Princess Emilia | 2280 comments "Oh." Cassie looked down and stared at her feet as they walked through the trees, keeping onto trail.
Mishi rolled her eyes. Cassie wasn't really the empathetic type. "Little Peter's sick?" Mish hesitantly put away her phone in her back pocket. "But he's such a happy kid."

message 23: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) "He is," Jordan says, his smile coming easier now. "Peter's a fighter, always has been. He knows God will help him get better."
He steps around a tree branch laying on the ground. "Peter doesn't complain or whine about what happened to him, he just has hope that everything will be ok. He's the strongest person I know."

message 24: by Princess Emilia (new)

Princess Emilia | 2280 comments "Hm." She pursed her lips thoughtfully as the other two walked ahead. God. She thought she could at least get away from talk of religion while she was out with her friends, but it looked like even here she would have to endure it. It wasn't enough that her aunt and uncle made her go to church every Sunday. "He's a good kid." Was all she could say without kindling a deep discussion.

message 25: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) Jordan nods, "He is." he says.
He clears his throat, trying to think of another topic to talk about. "So, are there going to be a lot of people at this party?" He asks.

message 26: by Princess Emilia (new)

Princess Emilia | 2280 comments As they drew nearer to the lake, they could already hear voices growing louder and even passed by a few party-goers mingling at the edge of the forest.
"Does that answer your question?" She raised her eyebrows as they broke through the trees and took in the amount of teens lining the beach. Some were swimming, but most were just dancing or socializing. There was even a live band playing on the stage that was always set up for special events.

message 27: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) "Yeah," Jordan says, chuckling. He looks around at all of the people there, doing various things. "That band is good, are they a local band?"
He nods his head to the music.

message 28: by Princess Emilia (new)

Princess Emilia | 2280 comments "Yep." She nodded and started to sway a little with the music. The band was made up of two guys and a girl. "They all just graduated high school. There're rumors that they just got signed onto a really big record label in Nashville or something, so this could be their last gig here." She shrugged a shoulder. "If the rumors are true."

message 29: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) "That's cool." Jordan says watching the band. "I hope they do well."
He starts to look around again, and realizes her friends had left them alone when they arrived. "Do you know everyone here?"

message 30: by Princess Emilia (new)

Princess Emilia | 2280 comments "Just about." She nodded. "It's not too difficult to know everyone in such a small town." She was thinking about NYC and how extremely different her life was in Alabama than in New York. She never unintentionally bumped into someone she knew when out and about in NY, but here, it was inevitable. "Do you miss living in Indiana?"

message 31: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) Jordan thinks about that for a minute. "Somewhat. It's kinda cool being somewhere new though. I would love to travel more, someday." he says, and looks at her. "How long have you lived here?"

message 32: by Princess Emilia (new)

Princess Emilia | 2280 comments "Too long." She grimaced. "About a year."

message 33: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) "I'm guessing you don't like it here?" Jordan asks. "So if you're not from here, where are you from?"

message 34: by Princess Emilia (new)

Princess Emilia | 2280 comments Her eyes lit up, "New York City." She grabbed herself a drink from a huge cooler. "I don't hate it here. It's just so..." she squinted up at the sky as she tried to find the words to describe how she felt, "So predictable."

message 35: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) Jordan nods, "I can understand that." he says. "I've never been to New York, but it seems like a pretty cool place." he reaches down and gets a drink out of the cooler as well. "One good thing about smalltowns though, you know someone will always have your back."

message 36: by Princess Emilia (new)

Princess Emilia | 2280 comments "You're not wrong." She smiled, then her smile widened as she focused on someone behind him. "Joel! You made it!"
Joel jogged over to them and wrapped his arms around her shoulders.
"Joel, this is Jordan. He moved here from Indiana. Jordan, this is my boyfriend."
Joel was tall and muscular, and was on the football team. Mishi knew it was kinda cliche and tried to avoid being cliche, but he was cute, so she didn't dwell on it.
Joel nodded at Jordan. "Sup."

message 37: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) "Hey," Jordan says.
Mishi had a boyfriend. Of course she did, she seems amazing, so why wouldn't she. And it's not like he was interested in her, like that. They had just met. Besides he needed to focus on making friends, a girlfriend could come later. But that doesn't mean him and Mishi can't be friends.
He realizes he has been standing there awkwardly for a minute. "I think I'm going to go get something to eat. You guys want anything while I'm up there?" He asks, looking at them.

message 38: by Princess Emilia (new)

Princess Emilia | 2280 comments "Nah." Joel waved his hand. "I'm gonna play volleyball with the guys." He planted a swift kiss on Mishi's forehead and turned around, then as an afterthought, he stopped to face Jordan again, "You wanna join?"

message 39: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) "Uh, sure." Jordan says. He needed to make some friends, maybe playing volleyball would be a good way to meet some people. His hunger could wait a while. "I haven't played in a while."

message 40: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) (you ready to continue? :)

message 41: by Princess Emilia (new)

Princess Emilia | 2280 comments "Careful," Mishi warned, with a glimmer of humor in her eyes, "Joel can be very competitive."
Joel shrugged, "That should only be a problem if you end up on the opposite team." He grinned.

message 42: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) Jordan chuckles, "Well I guess I should hope I'm on your team." he says, walking with Joel.

message 43: by Princess Emilia (new)

Princess Emilia | 2280 comments Mishi just watched; she was never the sporty type and would rather not humiliate herself. She watched as they all split into two teams and Joel and Jordan ended up on opposite sides. Great. Now she wouldn't know who to root for.

message 44: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) Jordan knew he was in trouble being on the opposing team to Joel. The game started out good, until Jordan went to hit the ball and slammed into the ground. "Ow," he moans. He starts to push himself up.

message 45: by Princess Emilia (last edited May 15, 2017 06:39PM) (new)

Princess Emilia | 2280 comments Mishi watched the game and settled for not cheering at all. What a predicament it was to have a boyfriend, and someone who could potentially become a good friend, playing against each other.
When Jordan fell Mishi sucked air through her teeth. "Ouch." She whispered. She started to cheer him on, so he would get up and keep playing. "C'mon, Jordan! You got this!" She cupped her hands next to her face as she shouted over the others who were watching.

message 46: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) Jordan picks himself back up, he hears Mishi cheering for him. He turns toward her and gives her a small smile, letting her know he's ok, then turns back to the game. The team he was on was down a few points and it continued that way for the rest of the game. Jordan was able to score a point, and then one of his teammates got the next. Now they were only down one point.

message 47: by Princess Emilia (new)

Princess Emilia | 2280 comments The team Jordan was on ended up barely winning. Joel probably wouldn't take it very well; he was extremely competitive.
Mishi eyed him as he kicked the sand and threw a mini tantrum, but his cocky grin reappeared when he walked back up to her.
"What did the sand ever do to you?" She teased, watching his smile fade slightly.
Joel shrugged, "It was beginner's luck."
"Mhm. Sure." She wasn't convinced. She locked eyes with Jordan, "Heya, Champ!"

message 48: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) Jordan high fived some of the guys on his team, and shook hands with some of the opposing team. The game was so close, and his team won, he was pretty pumped right now. Then he walked over to Mishi, "Hey." he says, smiling. He turns to Joel, "Good game, man." he holds his hand out to shake.

message 49: by Princess Emilia (new)

Princess Emilia | 2280 comments Mishi looked up at Joel and quirked her brow as if telling him to behave. He responded by rolling his eyes and begrudgingly shaking Jordan's hand. "Yeh, good game. We'll have to have a rematch sometime."
Mishi shook her head. This guy. He'd do anything to compete; competition was his life.
"So, Jordan," she began, "You should come with us to the diner this weekend. I don't work on Saturdays, so I like to hang out there whenever I'm free."

message 50: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) Jordan nods to Joel, then turns to Mishi when she starts to talk. "I would love to," he says, smiling. "I'll have to make sure my brother doesn't have a doctor's appointment, but if he doesn't I'll be there."
Jordan always went to his brother's doctors appointments, he wasn't going to miss one.
