Batman: The Killing Joke
Superman: Secret Identity
Batman: The Long Halloween
Batman: The Black Mirror
Superman: Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns

Crisis on multiple earths: the JLA/JSA team ups
Golden Age
Starman by James Robinson
Showcase Presents: almost all of them. Great way to get to read some great, inexpensive silver age goodness.
second the vote on 'Whatever happened to the man of tomorrow'!
and would also add Moore's 'What to get the man who has everything'.

You've hit most of what I'd list(although I personally didn't care for Black Mirror). I'd add
Superman for All Seasons and Kingdom Come.
If we're counting Homage/Veritgo I also highly recommend the Astro City trades.

You can't go wrong with Infantino drawn Flash stories. He is the Flash artist that all others have to live up to.
Wish I could afford more of the Archives. DC has some great stuff collected.
I tend to get more Showcase Presents as they are cheaper.

For a long time when I had my credit cards, I would go and look for these on ebay or conventions and stuff, and they were pretty pricey and was only able to buy a few of them.
I always wanted the first 6 issues, but was only able to get a few of them.

I have other Showcase issues but these are my earliest ones.
I have a few...
Batman: A Lonely Place of Dying - Marv Wolfman
Robin: Year One - Chuck Dixon
The Last Days of Krypton - Kevin J. Anderson
All four Batman - The Animated Series books by Geary Gravel are really good - but especially
Shadows of the Past and

I've had the Dark Knight returns high on my wishlist for awhile now. Really need to buckle down and order it. I've heard great things.

I got Superman for All Seasons a few months back and enjoyed it. The artwork was fine except I really detested the work for Superman/Clark Kent. The concept was nice and I love stories that concentrate on Smallville and his roots.

Sale's art takes getting used to, and some characters often don't look right. He's definitely talented though. Batman: The Long Halloween (another book listed a couple times above) is by the same team.
Superman: Secret Identity is an alternate world tale so isn't about the "usual" superman, but it's another great book that examines what real life would be like for someone with superman's powers.
And Dark Knight Returns is a fantastic read. Well worth seeking out.

I hadn't heard of Superman: Secret Identity, I don't believe. Will add it, thanks.

Almost any of his run with art by Scott Kollins is worth a look.
Or go for the classic Silver Age collections, either Showcase or Chronicles.

A lot of my favorite Flash stuff were random annuals or his role in other comics, like JLA.

Johns Nu 52 Flash had some nice art, but seemed to be made up of stories that just lead to crossovers.

I've heard a lot of good things about Geoff Johns' runs on the DC comics, so I'll definitely check them out!

For Flash stories as much as I love the newer stories being written, I'm a throwback to the older Flash comics stories written by Gardner Fox and drawn by Carmine Infantanio.
Do you read comics on a computer or a tablet? If you read on either one of those I have all the comic rack files can send you a few them by email if your interested.

I just requested The Flash: Rebirth from the library and some of the New 52 comics of Flash, so I guess I'll see how they turn out!

The imprint Gerad Way is doing: Doom Patrol, Shade the changing Girl, Bug!,Cave Carson and Mother Night.
All really good stuff, equal doses of Vertigo surreal and Silver age fun.

Man, we need more of these in comics.

Good mix of new stories and well chosen reprint back ups.

Kind of miss the days when Swamp Thing was just a monster.
