I am trying to find this book that I read when I was in either the 5th or 6th grade. (2001-2002 would be the time period.) These are some vague details about the book that I remember. I believe it was set in possibly a ww3 or futuristic apocalypse time. I remember the characters as young adults. Teen age I believe maybe younger. I know there was a conflict with another group.(war?) I remember torture scenes and war violence in there as well. For some reason I keep remembering a train car. Lots of vague details I know but curious if anyone out there has a name to put out there for me. I think it was published before the 2000 maybe even the 80's or 90's but unsure. I also do believe it was a rather large book. Any help is appreciated. I cannot get this book out of my head.

Hmm...long shot based on these few details, but could it be The Kindling by Jennifer Armstrong, the "Fire-Us" trilogy? Group of young adults/kids after an apocalypse.
Hi. Thanks for taking the time to read this and reply. I don't remember it being a part of a trilogy. I read the description of it but I don't believe it to be the book I am after. Thank you for your input.
Enclave series? https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7...New York City has been decimated by war and plague, and most of civilization has migrated to underground enclaves, where life expectancy is no more than the early 20's. When Deuce turns 15, she takes on her role as a Huntress, and is paired with Fade, a teenage Hunter who lived Topside as a young boy. When she and Fade discover that the neighboring enclave has been decimated by the tunnel monsters--or Freaks--who seem to be growing more organized, the elders refuse to listen to warnings. And when Deuce and Fade are exiled from the enclave, the girl born in darkness must survive in daylight--guided by Fade's long-ago memories--in the ruins of a city whose population has dwindled to a few dangerous gangs.
What dumb names. Why do all modern YA fantasy characters have such weird names? Katniss, Peeta, Rue, Four, Tris, Deuce, Fade...
This book would have been published the latest 2002. It probably was published between 1980's-late 1990's. I don't think that is the book I am looking for but thanking you for posting.
The Girl Who Owned a City by Nelson? I read it so long ago, I have no memory of the storyline. But it was published originally in the 80s, it's about a girl in a world where all the adults died, and she ends up leading the survivors. She's about 11, and she has a younger brother.
