I just started it at midnight last night, read about 10%... and I woke up at 6am this morning and read some more 5% - mind you, I still had to go to work!! damnnnnn it!!!!
At the moment, I'm ready to kick Sam Kennedy's broad backside!

Thank you, dear Sabine! I suppose this is work I save when I'll be reading the book.

If yes, then you can first restart your Kindle with wi fi on. If still fails, try resend the file from the "Manage your content" page.

Josh just posted this on FB:
If you are reading the Monet Murders...you're reading a previous version. IT'S A LONG STORY. So when you get to the end, don't freak out. Just stop reading, take a couple of deep breaths, and by the end of the day I should have the correct version uploaded everywhere.
To recap. *You're reading an earlier version of the book.* And yes the book will be available everywhere, not just on Kindle.
So, everyone, keep an eye out for the final version that will find you a little bit later. :-)

Poor Josh. That's got to be nerve-wracking. :(
Thank you for posting this Johanna, for those of us not on Facebook. (And yes, we do exist!)
how do we know if we have the correct version?mine was sent first thing this morning so Im guessing its wrong?
how do we get the correct version?
Hello!
So very, very, VERY sorry -- embarrassed -- about the mix-up with files. The final and correct version is currently going through a last round of edits (why not, since I'm already in this jam?).
The final version of the book is about 80K and ends with the word "excuses." NO ONE has it yet.
I'll let everyone know when it's been uploaded so everyone can update their files. The files that go to B&N, Kobo, etc. will all be correct.

No worries, I haven't started reading it yet. Thanks for letting us know :)
I haven't started this yet... might be awhile, I've got a huge reading pile!
However, in my research for a writing class, I came upon this apt quote and thought I would share it:
"Whenever you go out to paint, try to forget what objects you have in front of you – a tree, a house, a field or whatever. Merely think, here is a little squeeze of blue, here an oblong of pink, here a streak of yellow, and paint it just as it looks to you, until it gives your own naïve impression of the scene in front of you.” – Claude Monet

Thank you very much. It was a mix-up and as such not at all dramatic. And you noticed it so soon that almost no one will have time to complain ;-).
Take good care of yourself after the stress, my dear!

Lisa, the correct version seems to be on most of the Amazon sites now, so you could try deleting off your kindle and redownloading. That has worked for a number of people.
Also Amazon is sending out emails letting people know an update is available, so if you get an email, you would just go into your account, click on Manage Devices, scroll down to The Monet Murders, and click on the button Update Available.
Last but not least, you can contact customer service and ask them to push the update through. Most people have had good luck with this.

That is the incorrect version. The correct version ends with the word "excuses." It is 24 Chapters long and almost 80,000 words.
Honestly, the fastest way to get results is contact customer service and ask them to push the update through to you. That seems to be the most efficient way to get this resolved.
I've been talking to Amazon, and they said they would let me know this evening whether it was possible to push through a universal update. Which would make life so much easier for all of us.

In my case, I turned on the "automatic update" in the settings under "manage my contents and devices" on Amazon website and all the new and old updates were downloaded next time I turned on my Kindle. No need to delete old versions. In fact, i found out "Winter Kill" had an updated version :-)
[spoilers]Have you got to the drink at the Mermaid Bar?
Wow, what a shift in the tides! When Sam does his reveal, I felt it right in the solar plexus!
I would to know to know more about Ethan.
SPOILERSOn the mystery side. I picked out Eric Greenleaf or Bram as the unsub, by the time Shipka was killed, so I wasn't too far off this time :-)
But it's the romance side that really tears me up... talk about valid struggles in romance - how do you deal with a "lover" like Sam Kennedy? In a way, it's a bit like Jake - he had to be the one to decide he's ready to get out of the closet (with Adrien's murder magnet circumstances pushing along the way), Sam has to acknowledge he can and he's able to have both - his "life mission to save lives" and be with someone he loves. At the moment, I think he's still "reluctantly" accepting his love/attraction/obsession with Jason. I can see this conflict goes into book 4-5.
I wonder if the relationship arch will be like 2 steps forwards, 1 step back... I'm expecting angst and heartache ahead. And I kind of welcome it (Sorry, Jason!)
I guess I'll start with sharing my impressions about this book.I actually finished The Monet Murders early morning in Saturday. I started reading late night on Friday and read untill four in the morning. So I can say that the book kept my interest. I wanted to know what was going to happen with the mystery.
I do think that I shouldn't have read it then. There was an incident on Friday that emotionally shooked and I think I just wasn't in the right mental state when I was reading it. So I think part of my confusion about this book comes from that. Usually when I'm feeling down Josh's books work like a charm. Even the angsty ones can lift my mood. I finish the book and I feel good. Even The Hell You Say or Death of a Pirate King do that to me. yes, I cry my eyes out while reading, but in the end they comfort me in some strange way. The Monet Murders just didn't do that.
Maybe it was because this was my first read or if I was not enough connected to Jason/Sam.
It was very angsty book. I didn't cry though.
Chapters 11/12 were like a punch in the gut. In the worst way. Maybe it was because I was so emotional while I was reading. But I read the chapters...and then just sat in my armchair and stared blankly at the wall for while. I honestly considered whether I want to read further, because I honestly hate love triangles with passion, even more than cheating. So I was wondering how long it will be drawn out.
I'm not particulary proud of my reaction to Shipkas death. Then I started thinking if I needed professional help, because I was so happy to see him die. so relieved. I don't remember the last time I took that instant and strong dislike to a character.
Didn't at all enjoy Jason thinking about Shipka while giving bj to Sam either.
Mystery part was very good though. It was very interesting.
I think for me the lovetriangle part was a total miss. But then I have never enjoyed that kind of plotline. I think it's just me thing here. My reaction to it was negative, but I think it shows how good writer Josh is. It got emotions out of me. Worst thing to say about a book is that I didn't care or that I'm totaly indifferent. I was very emotional at those parts. whether it was reaction that Josh wished/hoped now that's a different case.
The Monet Murders made me feel and interested in the story. But even now chapters 11/12 over shadow the entire book. Which is probably beause of my bias over what happened there.
Maybe when I'm calmer and more zen, I can do a re-read and I maybe have more positive reaction chapters 11/12. Maybe can also be reasonable person and not react to shipkas death with "YESS!!".
I can always hope :)
This may look like a negative post, but I did like lot about The Monet Murders. I just got the parts that I didn't like off my chest.
Josh thank you for writing this intense book. Looking forward to what other people thought about this book.

I have seen this from an different angle. Jason was very patient over a long time. And he was in no relationship.
(I know he is in a way in a relationship, because he loves Sam. But Sam don't want that.)

Winter Kill is the first book I went back and started revising, reformatting, adding my VIP offer, etc. That was sometime last year, I think! :-D
I did the same thing though. I realized I had a bunch of updates on books. Some recent, some old. Some indie, some mainstream. So I guess updates are not uncommon. Uploading the completely wrong draft, probably is LESS common. :-P

Honestly, I did expect those chapters, and the turns and twists in Jason and Sam's relationship to evoke an emotional reaction. I'd be disappointed if nobody felt anything there -- I think a mix of emotions is good.

I know that Jason and Sam were no longer in relationship, when Jason had sex with Shipka. I still don't like that it ever happened. I doubt I'll ever like it. Jason thinking of Sam while having sex with Shipka was just awful...and later while he was having sex with Sam, he thought about shipka. That's love triangle in my book. That's awful thing to do. It may be realistic, but I personally don't like to read stuff like that.
I know it's a me thing here. The fact that I don't like it is just my personal taste. And really I understand it now that I bought this book with wrong expectations: I thought it was going to be about Sam/jason, not Sam/Jason and Jason having sex with third person. That was my bad. You can never know what a book is about until you read it.

It's interesting hearing from readers who feel like Jason is negotiating a difficult course the best he can versus readers who feel like Jason is being too weak or whiny.
I think if Jason did not communicate his extreme pain, the book would be flat.
Plus, I don't know anyone in that situation who WOULDN'T be thinking about it and going over and over it. He doesn't complain to anyone, he still does his job, he isn't calling Sam up and begging for attention. That would all be weak and whiny behavior. The reader has insight into Jason's brain, but there's a difference in a peek behind the curtain and full-fledged drama.
That said, there is no wrong reaction to a book. It's just fascinating as the creator to see how the work is received so differently depending on the individual.

What I would give to have peek inside Sam's head. In both books to be honest. I also felt that Sam was bit absent in this book.Oh and I kinda hoped that Shipka would turn out to be serial murder. Maybe I caught his interest with Jason and instantly took offense just in case. :D

Sam actually has as much page time in this book as Mermaid, but so much of it is on the phone. Which is really funny, when you consider it -- because it's just another made-up setting, and yet readers interpret it as his not being there. :-D

Hmm maybe it also feels like Sam had less page time, because Jason was also involved with another guy in this book. So it wasn't just Jason and Sam here.
I think I just found one more reason to dislike Shipka. :D

What I thought as Jason got involved with Shipka was, you should run as fast you can, it could be dangerous for you.
I find it curious that there is so much sympathy for Jason, and believe me I have it too, but there is less patience or empathy for Sam. It makes sense that for him to work with individuals who are sociopaths you need an edge you need to reduce your vulnerability. You almost have to become unbalanced to be effective. I don't think there are jobs that you can do and be balanced. The way these two are drawn to each other is so compelling. I think Jason puts up with the hot and cold cause nothing else will compare.
Sabine wrote: "What I thought as Jason got involved with Shipka was, you should run as fast you can, it could be dangerous for you."Haha... not a repeat like Adrien!!!
Though I never got the "serial killer" vibe from Shipka, so I wasn't really worried about Jason's safety. I instantly thought Shipka would be a good device to kick Kennedy out of his "it's not you, it's me" thing, not that Jason would EVER think like that or would think it would affect Kennedy that much (at that point).
So it was sort of satisfying as a reader when I read Kennedy's outburst with those "boyfriend" comment :-)

No, I don't thought Shipka was a killer, but that he ( Shipka) was perhaps in danger. :-)
And yes, I thought too, that is perhaps something that gets Sam moving.

****PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THERE WILL BE SPOILERS HERE IN THIS TOPIC!!!****
All those late night conversations when Sam had maybe a drink too many or Jason was half falling asleep. All those playful, provocative comments about what they’d do when they finally met up again.
Well, here they were.
The last thing Jason West, an ambitious young FBI Special Agent with the Art Crimes Team, wants--or needs--is his uncertain and unacknowledged romantic relationship with irascible legendary Behavioral Analysis Unit Chief Sam Kennedy.
And it’s starting to feel like Sam is not thrilled with the idea either.
But personal feelings must be put aside when Sam requests Jason’s help to catch a deranged killer targeting wealthy, upscale art collectors. A killer whose calling card is a series of grotesque paintings depicting the murders.
