emo: a person with mixed emotions about life, and can't make up there minds.
goth: dark and desolate, seperated from the world but connected thru black magic
punk: a mix of prep with goth, loves metal, but not screamo, wheres pink and black together

my definitions of emo, goth....not too sure about prep.
Emo- someone who is emotional, not fully connecte with the world, writes poetry, and sometimes cuts themselves.
Goth- someone who sticks out in a crowd and doesn't give a *bleep* what ther ppl think.
I'm goth and my ex-bf (soon to be mt bf again) is emo....but he doesn't cut himself anymore

hannah, are you sure you aren't suffering from insanity? (JK JK) i don't really think there'a such a thing as "TRUE" goth. i've heard of vampire goth fairy goth....all kinds. i think the important thing is yu're true to yourself. you don't need a title!!

Just becuase you wear black doesn't mean you are Goth.
I've read this from Goth Craft by Raven Digitalis (good first guide, I must say) and this one sentence might come in handy:
"Goth isn't what someone does, its who someone is"
I must complement you on your post, Curt. Job well done for clearing that up.

Being goth, though, is very much a genre (music, movies, clothes, makeup, what have you)

But we can't deny it's roots in 19th century Romanticism either, with poets like Poe and Lord Byron giving us the melancholy and sadness that many Goths like to wear, along with the ruffly shirts and historical clothing, and the penchant for absinthe and graveyards.
And still, some of you newer to the scene or well under the age of 30 might just be in it because you like black clothes, Halloween, spooky stuff, and delving into alternative religions and ways of thinking. And that's cool, too, I won't tell you you're not a Goth.
