Do you prefer books that are in a series, or just stand alone books? Does the series have to be complete before you start reading it? Or do you just read each book that is released when it is released?

Series that is long and finished. I keep making the mistake of reading something that seems like it is done, then it ends up having more books to it.

That's very true! The only downside to a series is if it isn't done yet, and you have to wait for it to be out.
