I was really inspired by the book suggestions, and so I am now reading The Book Thief on my kindle. Adding my thanks for setting this site up.
Hooray, Go Fug Yourself fans and the books they read!I tried reading The Book Thief but got really really really confused. Sometimes if I don't like the beginning of a book I'll start reading it a few chapters in (I'm looking at you, Rebecca) and then go back and read the beginning, but it didn't work for this one.
Thank you! Devoured Code Name Verity last week after all of the recommendations for it. Was wonderful.
Am looking forward to getting into my first ever Ken Follett (jackdaws) this weekend *rubs hands in wartime romantically glee*
Awesome idea. Already seeing a bunch of great books to try. BTW The Book Thief is fantastic, persevere!
I'm fairly new to Good reads so I'm not quite sure how it works (but I'm working on it!). I recently read The Language of Flowers because a wonderful person recommended it in the GFY comments. Can that be added to the list?

I feel ya! I finished it, but making myself do so was a struggle... and this may be blasphemy, but while I thought the book was good (and definitely moving) I wasn't utterly blown away by it like everyone else seems to be. Don't shame me, everyone who loves it!

If it hasn't been already, I will add it. If YOU haven't read it, there is a companion book that actually tells you what the flower meanings are!

One of our patrons just read The Language of Flowers, her favourite part was the actual language of flowers, and I just requested A Victorian Flower Dictionary for her!
Thanks to Fug Nation, I just got The Book Thief with my monthly Audible credit. Have Murder on the Home Front coming from a library in our system. You all will keep me busy this summer catching murderers and fighting Nazis.

I feel you. I feel like it was written at a distance which kept me from responding as emotionally to it as a lot of people did.
Love this! I bought The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society after reading about it in the GFY comments. I loved it! Couldn't put it down.
Thanks for doing this! I just got a B&N gift card for my birthday and was waiting for book recs before I bought anything. This'll do it!
Oh thank god I'm not the only one who didn't adore The Book Thief -- thank you Fug Nationals who were willing to admit it! I liked it well enough, but nearly everyone else I know told me things like "the best book they'd ever read" and I certainly wouldn't go that far. Not sure how my name will show up here on Goodreads but I'm alamedapeg on GFY, just for clarity. Kris, thanks so much for setting this up!
Wendy wrote: "Thank you! Devoured Code Name Verity last week after all of the recommendations for it. Was wonderful."I cried so hard after reading Code Name Verity that I scared my son. I haven't read the second book, Rose Under Fire because I am afraid of ruining my Verity love.
This is so great! I'm currently reading The Heir Apparent, and am going to grab Code Name Verity for when I head to the beach in a couple of weeks!
Any book giveaways, I would personally prefer -- at least for right now -- to confine to GFY proper. (Which would also give the authors in questions more eyeballs, when it comes right down to it.) You can always email me about that sort of thing at fuggingitup@gmail.com. We love to do them!
Let me be the first to jump up and say "read Bellweather Rhapsody by Kate Racculia!" because I was the very lucky winner of that book and it was fantastic!
Molly wrote: "Love this! I bought The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society after reading about it in the GFY comments. I loved it! Couldn't put it down."One of my friends sent me a copy of that with the note "This is such a charming little book" - and that is the review I give to everyone else. SUCH a charming little book!
I'm super-excited about the book group. I love reading, but I'm less certain about my fashion sense, so I don't comment over at GFY. But y'all seem charming and intelligent and a book club is a great idea. Code Name Verity, here I come. :)
Joanie wrote: "Let me be the first to jump up and say "read Bellweather Rhapsody by Kate Racculia!" because I was the very lucky winner of that book and it was fantastic!"Although I wasn't the winner, after seeing Bellweather Rhapsody mentioned highly on both EW.com and GFY, I downloaded it for a recent business trip (to read when I wasn't working, obvs). I'm so glad I did! I was delayed in ATL for 5 hours but they were 5 hours pleasantly spent as I read this fun book.
Thanks So much for setting this up Kris! I've been a long time GFY follower but not a active commenter (although I feel that you are all my people!). Looking forward to Code Name Verity!
Katie wrote: "This is so great! I'm currently reading The Heir Apparent, and am going to grab Code Name Verity for when I head to the beach in a couple of weeks!"I just picked up my reserved copy at the library and I'm taking it with me to the beach this weekend - I can't wait!
