Once something gets under your skin watch out. Your husband must run for the hills when the keyboard starts vibrating and you start to I'll show you where whores go!

Oh Scott, trust me... he is handling himself quite well.

One time he locked me in our greenhouse with a bat. You read that... a live bat.

Another time I told him "oh yeah, well this taco stand is closed." He replied "good, that place stunk anyways"

Another time I was parked in a train station parking lot. He used his spare set of keys to steal my car, then he moved my car waaaaaaaay to the other end of the huge parking lot. He only drove over to get me (and laugh for an inappropriately amount of time) when I basically started walking to the bus stop.

So many other examples I could use...

Locking you in the greenhouse with a baseball bat is a head scratcher.

I'm not sure if you're kidding or not lol. What I'm saying is a bat.. you know, fuzzy... hangs upside down... sometimes has rabies....

LOL, I missed the real live bat part. I bet you wished you had a baseball bat after that!

The worst my wife ever did, and she was in her early 20's and only the girlfriend at the time was pour a bottle of water over my head. The worst I ever did was we were working out and I was spotting her while she was bench pressing. When she ran out of steam I balanced it halfway up and started yelling "you got it! come on push!" she turned 50 shades of pink and when she got up said you're the biggest fucking asshole ever. :)

A bunch of people who knew why I did it and knew her came up one at a time saying stuff like dude you're jacked or nice set.

My hubby's main thing is taking videos of me, taunting me. The worst was when I was kayaking and him narrating it to this day I watch him and I almost pee myself laughing

Andrew | 653 comments I'm interested in joining this BR, but I've only read the original First Law Trilogy.
Question for anyone who is up-to-date on the First Law series: can I read Red Country before Best Served Cold and Heroes, or will it spoil the other two books? I had heard they were stand-alones, but don't want to research too much in case I come across spoilers.

message 14: by Margret, Caladan Brood Face (new) - rated it 4 stars

Margret | 3168 comments Mod
I'm not sure on this particular book but The other two standalones before this had events happening chronologically Particularly with the character Shivers. I personally wouldn't read them out of order

Andrew | 653 comments Thanks for the info, Margaret. I'll pass on this BR then. Hope everyone else enjoys!

I had the same feeling about Lamb. Again, damn Joe is good with characters. If he was half as good with worldbuilding and plot line, people would be clamouring to get him signed onto tv show deals.

Also, the music between parts on audio I just love.. my husband just caught me doing spirit fingers to it lol

I'm about two-thirds done. This is the best of the singles. I think it's because some of the big personalities, Coska and "Lamb", are in it so often.

When do you wanna do sharp ends?

Cheesu | 39 comments Honestly, this wasn't one of my favorite Abercrombie books. It felt like there was just something missing. Lamb's real identity was a little too obvious, but happy to see him back. Maybe there will be a final book to wrap up this series.

I'm going to have to slip that one in as a read not audio so I'm not sure. I'm going to try to do it in September but can't commit to a date. Do you have some flexibility? If not just finish it when you can.

This hasn't been a set of books that has inspired a lot of conversation.

I swear we have the worst picking power. It's too bad we seem to have mismatched timing mojo on when we read complex stuff ie/ Daniel Abraham, Erikson

No doubt. Have you read the trilogy starting with When the Heavens Fall? If that doesn't win, and it's not likely to, the November poll. I was thinking about starting that up in Dec for a trilogy read.

It would be awesome to see Abercrombie write a fiction piece about gangs or cartels or something, he's great at the devolution of characters. Just seeing Shivers and Logen change over the last few books has been awesome

Interesting thought. Maybe even a steampunk or urban piece with the elements you mention. He hasn't written anything in a bit.

Great idea. He is going to or currently writing novels in the First Law universe again. Maybe after that. He'd be great in urban fantasy, Cosca-like character but in the Prohibition era or whatever.

I once again have faith in JA. Finished this am on my way to work. Unsure if this one or Best Served Cold is my favorite, and definitely excited to read Sharp Ends because it looks like Glotka will be in it.

(view spoiler)

Cheesu | 39 comments Best Served Cold is easily one of my favorite books of all time.

message 42: by Scott , Karsa Orlong (new) - rated it 4 stars

Scott Hitchcock (lostinthewarrenofchaos) | 8084 comments Mod
The first half of Best Served Cold I thought ok this is awesome. The second half things became so predictable it was ridiculous. Heroes was the opposite where the first half sucked but then the second was OK. I thought this was the most consistent effort.

Cheesu | 39 comments Maybe Sharo Ends will end up being better.
His other series, I read through it due to loyalty to the author but again, everything in it was predictable.

I love Joe Abercrombie's work, but I'm with you on this one Cheesu. This was my least favourite of his works and yes, Lamb was too obvious.

I don't think Lamb was supposed to be covert to the reader. I knew who he was in chapter two and treated it as a running joke that everybody in the story knew he was somebody but not who. My one complaint would be(view spoiler)
