Jeff | 425 comments The rumor patrol is out again. The news garnered by a close insider has told several movie sites that Warner/Dc has added The Batman to their list of scheduled movies for 2019.

The site Latino Review, has put together a logical time line as to why The Batman film is so far into the future. According to schedules:

•New Batman Ben Affleck presumably has Batman V Superman production tying him up until 2015.
•He directs his delayed project, Live By Night, in 2015 for 2016 release.
•He’s back in the cowl for Justice League in late 2015/2016.
•By 2017, Justice League promotion is done, film is in theaters, and Affleck can turn attention to The Batman.

If the 2019 rumor is true, that will be seven-year span between the last of Nolan’s films and the start of a new franchise.

Either way, I think its going to be a grand thing to restart The Batman into a universe that has metas humans and super powers. The Nolan series didn't have that.
I didn't mind the Nolan years though I was very let down by The Dark Knight Rises. I think doing a new Batman based on the New DC filmiverse is a great and wise move, providing they stick to their plans.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) I'm sure it will be one day rebooted again since the series/character is so successful. Not sure if it would be as soon as 2019 but I guess time will tell.

Travis (travishiltz) | 487 comments Personally, I'd like them to leave Batman alone. Have him part of the JLA movies, but let the other guys have a chance at a solo movie.

The fact that there's a dozen Batman movies, and almost no other heroes getting one, is a big part of my problem with DC.
They are like the guy in the cowbell sketch from SNL, except they keep saying 'I need more Batman!'

That's true Travis, But, more than anything, Batman is their most major character In their stable, even more than Superman. They want to feature him as the one character that doesn't have super powers but is the most formidable and still controlling person to be wary of in the DC Universe.

Yeah, but they tend to do it at the expense of all the other heroes.
DC needs to take a chance on some other characters.

After all, how much did the general public know about Iron man before the movies and he's now a huge deal.
DC needs to build its movie universe and then do another Batman movie.

True, no argument from me. I mean Marvel is taking a chance on Guardians of the Galaxy. Thinking it was a little unknown property. But its going to be a huge movie.

DC is taking longer because they got into this Universe building thing a lot later,

Actually, I think they are taking longer because they did not have a clue what they were doing.

I'd love to see DC take some risks like marvel has.
How cool would it be if we are expecting yet another Batman movie and DC announces that they are doing the Haunted Tank or Kamandi?

Jeff | 425 comments You really are set on the Haunted Tank lol. Kamandi yeah I have those issues but for me Id rather see a whole lot more.
Metamorpho would be a perfect hero to do, especially using the effects we have right now. Plus the origin could be used as well.

Or Metal Men which they were supposed to do. or Challengers of the Unknown.

Im not dissing Kamandi, but its just not one of my faves.

I understand. Everyone has their fave cheesy heroes.
Yeah, I am currently obsessed with DC's WW2 heroes. I would also take a creature commandos movie.

Challengers would be cool. Though, I'd want the classic group that fights giant monsters and not the X-file type group from the 90's.

That's the thing, DC has so many great heroes, across all genres and the studio looks at that and just wants to do more Batman.
So frustrating.

Jeff | 425 comments well you have to admit that it also boils down to what they think will attract people to see a movie that they are going to invest millions doing.

As much as id love to see any number of DC heroes in a movie, the only way they can be made is with a more serious tone. Movie going audiences want to see bad ass not light hearted fare. Though if they did the JLA they way there were in 1987 when guy Gardner was on the team and as well written as it was, was full of jokes, I would love to see the movie made the way the comic was written.

Yes, cause if you go with the lighter tone marvel is using you might end up making a zillion dollars and turning lesser known characters into huge cultural icons and who wants that...better to stick with Batman, rather than risk that...

I agree, DC always seems a little behind with some of their creative attempts and risks for the big screen. It seems movie popularity with Marvel movies gets DC's juices flowing again.

And you're right, I didn't know diddly squat about Iron Man until the movies start coming out. It would be nice to focus on other characters. Batman is likely the most popular, but he's been given more chances screen wise to be.

I like both the dark, serious but also the light and humorous. It works as long as it stays true to the characters. Each director will focus on bringing out that side.

I think a light, comical movie can work if it suits the character. Spiderman is certainly popular. Not DC but a good example. There's darkness in some of the story, of course, but the humor works with audiences well. And of course the Avengers. I don't want Justice League the movie to be as comedic (wouldn't work as well because of the characters IMO), but I disagree it wouldn't work if done right.

It's hard to guess. I worked at the movie theatre when Green Lantern and Green Hornet were out, and people just didn't come see it. No interest or lack of publicity? Have no idea what went wrong there. I figured both would be busier than they were. I do respect it's costly to take chances.
