Time to Vote for the August Tag
These were some interesting topics. I like that they were different. I actually think this month I wouldn't mind being a little uncomfortable. I have something to read for all three, so I'd be happy with any. Tossed my free vote in the wind. Saving my not yet earned special voting power for later in the year.
Voted. I have a clear favorite, another one I would be totally ok with, and one that leaves me baffled. Though I have a number of books I would tag photography, they fall into two categories, both of which I would not "read": resource books that teach me about some aspect of photography or art books that I enjoy browsing in. What kinds of books would you read for this tag?

She photographed her own children, and I think for some reason that was controversial. At any rate, if photography is the choice, I'm going to go with a memoir or biography with focus on photography. If I can't find this particular one I have in mind, maybe one about George Eastman!

I've been wanting to read that.

I actually threw my free vote there, just because we've had a lot of broad easy ones and the other off one was too way out there for me (pun intended). But I found a book for that one too, if it comes up.
Holey moley! I have very few titles for any of these tags/shelves. I'll be watching what others are choosing or recommending! I've voted but it really doesn't matter. Maybe I'll get more challenge reading done in August. :-)
Interesting choices - I have no idea what to vote for.If it does turn out to be photography, I absolutely loved
Short Nights of the Shadow Catcher: The Epic Life and Immortal Photographs of Edward Curtis

You have me sold! I looked it up and it is definitely something I'd like to read. Now I'm hoping it is photography. I hope my library system has it.

That sounds really good too!
I LOVE the options this month! Not so much because any of them are my favorite genre, but because any one of them will challenge me to read something new.

I really love photography, but I haven't voted for that one because photography books are very expensive and I wouldn't find any at my local library. However, a memoir might be just the thing.

Amy wrote: "I also saw Just Kids on that list, which is on my TBR and I'd not even known that."Great book, fits the tag perfectly.

That will totally be my books if photography is selected! You have been telling me that I will like it, and I need one more memoir for my PBT Stairs challenge.
Ooops .... I'm not sure what I did .... I meant to cast ONLY 1 vote ... but I think I may have cast 10.Anita (or whoever is monitoring the survey this month) .... can you make sure I cast ONLY ONE vote?
Thank you in advance ....

I agree Linda. It was a very good book.

You did cast 10, lol. I fixed it!
Voted. I also was delighted with all of the interesting and unusual choices and will enjoy reading whichever one wins!
Voted. This one was really hard for me. I really wanted to vote for Space Opera, but I don't think that will win after how the vote went down for Star Wars. So, I decided to go with my second favorite--betrayal.
I saw that for Space Opera, Hitchhiker'sGuide for the Galaxy is on the list. So I would read that one. I just now wondered if my non-reading high school freshman might like that one...
I think that the current high school generation might find it dated but it is a great for those that like very British Humor and maybe seventies, eighty babes?

Maybe you're right but I think Space Opera and Star Wars are pretty different as categories. I would have voted for space opera but not Star Wars, the latter being too limiting. However maybe others would still be unlikely to vote space opera.
I agree Jen, I absolutely did not vote for Star Wars but 'space opera' was a clear winner for me. I finished Dune earlier this year and am excited to get to the next book in the series. If it wins, I'll also try to get to my next book on the Ender series. So many good options!
Space opera is my least favourite of the options right now, but I believe I have two books that fit (though I may be reading one this month!). I will still have another after that, though.
Some months are harder than others....but I love this group. I have expanded my reading tremendously. But I voted for betrayal. Something easy to add into my month of jammed packed reading.
I voted for Space Opera. Because I need to read both Dune & Ender's Game. Betrayal seems kind of like a spoiler tag--thanks GR users....
Jennifer P. wrote: "Betrayal seems kind of like a spoiler tag--thanks GR users...."um, that's good to know if it gets selected. I haven't checked it yet. I did not vote for it :)
Jennifer P. wrote: "I voted for Space Opera. Because I need to read both Dune & Ender's Game. "I didn't even look at the pages of books for space opera, thinking it probably wouldn't win. I will definitely be reading Ender's Game if space opera is the tag- didn't even realize this was under the tag!
Don't forget (and I'm NOT saying I voted for Space Opera AT ALL, but I've read a fair bit of scifi including some space opera) that there is the CLASSIC by one of the top woman scifi authors of the 20th century, Lois McMaster Bujold, Shards of Honor. If you love it, you can keep on reading the entire series. I've read 3 of the books, but one was a prequel written later that I liked better, but it is set a LONG time before the series, Falling Free.
