Lily Woodmansee | 6 comments I used to work near a library in Boise, Idaho. At this time there was no internet and I did not subscribe to cable. My curiosities were not satisfied with standard TV so I resorted to books.

I would go to the library and check out at least eight books at a time. All of them about true crime or true history. (I am an AVID history buff) I read the most amazing true stories - most have never been shown on TV.

I read about everything I could conceive of. Even a book supposedly channeled by an alien.

Reading can take us out of ourselves. I think this is necessary occasionally when we are clouded with our own drama. For me, this is therapy.

Currently, I am reading a historical fiction novel taking place in the 1800's when steamboats and steamboat entertainment was a way to beat life's doldrums.

Having a bad day? Read a chapter or two of any fiction novel and you can escape . . .if even for a little while.

Alayne Smith | 1 comments I can relate to your first paragraph. Like my character Ellen, I grew up in a rural area, and the Saturday trip to the library was my savior. I checked out enough fiction books to last me until the next Saturday.

Reading stretches us and pulls us in different directions. Couldn't live without my books!

Lily Woodmansee | 6 comments Thank you, Alayne! Glad to know it wasn't just some odd quirk. My coworkers use to laugh at me.
