Its one of my most favorite books. Do look it up here on goodreads. Its about a girl from NYC who finds a personal diary from a girl who lived during the French Revolution, during the Terror and all. In the story, both of them go through their own personal revolutions :)

Almas Nasar (almascism) | 63 comments Reading "One hundred years of solitude" Its turning out to be more like one hundred years of "plentitude" though.Yet my patience wants to give it another try.

Just finished reading "Things a little bird told me:Confessions of a creative mind"
It was good enough to keep me happily hooked till the end.

Mahnoor (noor155) Rereading My Sister's Keeper. Didn't like it when I read it for the first tine. Giving it another go.

message 17: by Risha (new)

Risha | 1549 comments Now reading 2 States by Chetan Bhagat. Honestly, the book seems like an OTT Bollywood movie in print. Probably why the actual film worked so well :-/

I also finished Train to Pakistan by Khushwant Singh and liked it a lot!

Will read How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia by Mohsin Hamid after this :-)

message 18: by Abbas (new)

Abbas ALi | 19 comments Ok, It's a long shot but does anyone here have The History of Al Tabari ? Specifically looking for volume 9: The last years of the Prophet (SAW) and volume 18: Between Civil Wars .

message 19: by Shehzad (new)

Shehzad | 648 comments On the last book of The Riyrian Revelations. Really liked it.
@Abbass- check the closest univ library, chances are you'll find it there, if the univ offers programs in Islamic studies and history.

Just finished How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia. Starts off pretty well, tends to get a tad bit slow in the middle but all in all a good-read.
Have u read The Reluctant Fundamentalist?

I know what u r talking abt... :p
Drags on a little due to all the medical terms but if u can make it thru, it is a really good book.
Haven't watched the movie though. Have u watched the movie?

message 22: by Risha (new)

Risha | 1549 comments @Haseeb.. Yes, have read that book. Mohsin Hamid's best narration (since he tends to play around with that aspect a lot)

message 23: by Abdul Haseeb (new)

Abdul Haseeb Ahmed | 16 comments @Risha Yeah. Really loved the twist in the end. Sent me chills. Although the movie was good, but they drifted from the plot too much..
Going to start Moth Smoke next..

It does! Plus I thought some of the narratives were totally irrelevant and super long and boring. :P But yes, its a really good story now that I have read it again
Yes, not that good. I thought it would be emotional but it wasnt(but that is probably my fault for not being sensitive enough lol) It moves too fast I think.

message 25: by Abbas (new)

Abbas ALi | 19 comments @Shehzad Thanks for the suggestion :). Though, I found Between Civil Wars on scribd. Will visit a couple of universities or public libraries for other volumes (Time permitting)

message 27: by Risha (new)

Risha | 1549 comments @Haseeb.. I have not seen the movie but have heard similar things about it.

Yes, Mothsmoke is a good book too! Even though the narration may not be AS clever as the other two books. Also, if you are from Lahore you'll enjoy it even more since the city is a continuous symbol in the book. (If I remember correctly, I did read the book a lonnnng time ago :p)

Arsalan Malik (arsalanahmedmalik) | 57 comments Recently Finished Robert Ludlum's "The Parsifal Mosaic".
Typical Ludlim's elements. Started Reading "Winterbirth" by Brian Ruckey Book 1 of "The godless world" Trilogy. Quite an unkniwn series and writer. Giving a try to the unknown ones Winterbirth (The Godless World, #1) by Brian Ruckley

message 31: by Shehzad (new)

Shehzad | 648 comments @Arsalan- Yes, it is a good read. I didn't like the first book as much. Too many cliches, weak characterization. But onwards, it gets better and better. I hope you'll like it.
I like Ludlum a lot. I'm a big fan of his Bourne series, both of the novels as well as the movies. How was Parsifal mosaic?

message 32: by Shehzad (new)

Shehzad | 648 comments Reading Game of Thrones these days. The show is faithful to the text so far, as much as it can be. I read somewhere that the famous sword dancing episode of Arya wasn't in the novel, but i did find it there.

message 33: by Shehzad (new)

Shehzad | 648 comments @Ammara- i read cuckoo's calling at the end of last year i think. Funny thing is i didn't know it was J.K Rowling until after i'd finished the book :-) i liked it way more than gone girl, which i found so boring i left it in the middle. Has anybody here read it? I'd like to know their opinion of it

I have read the book and yesterday i watched the movie too. It was a good book as well as the movie.

message 40: by Abdul Haseeb (new)

Abdul Haseeb Ahmed | 16 comments It is a different kind of book. I liked how it is narrated by death and all. Read the first chapter again after finishing it and it sent me goosebumps..

Believe me, now is the time to read it. In the backdrop of what is happening in Gaza. It is a very fine story, a very very fine one.

I think it is more relevant now then ever. It shows how the war and senseless prosecution of a certain race or religion effects the innocents. it shows that history is repeating itself, though still playing the victim, the Zionists are committing the very atrocities that they condemned in past.

Really? I dont want the story to be spoilt for me. I have HIGH expectations from this book. I want to feel sorry for the characters but right now, I am in a very angry mood over whatever is happening in Gaza. I am afraid I wont feel any sympathy towards any Jew, innocent or otherwise. Yes, I am bitter just like that :D

message 47: by Abubakar (new)

Abubakar Mehdi | 76 comments Mahnoor , you know what, its not about the jews or the nazis or for that sake any one who in particular. Its about the animal that lies within all of us, the senseless murderous beast that does the most atrocious and barbarious of acts with such comfort. Its about the fanaticism that fills the vaccum left by the absence of tolerence and love. Jews have nothing do to with it. Its humanity that suffered in nazi camps and it is humanity that suffers in Gaza.

Oh wow, it sounds very promising then! I hope I am able to see past the labels.

message 49: by Abdul Haseeb (new)

Abdul Haseeb Ahmed | 16 comments @Mahnoor... @AbuBakar put it very nicely. The Holocaust was wrong and inhumane and the book shows this in different and engaging way. What the Israelis are doing now is completely unjustified and intolerable but that shouldn't stop u from reading this amazing book. Plus the conflicted feelings would make it all the more interesting... :p

message 50: by Arsalan (new)

Arsalan Malik (arsalanahmedmalik) | 57 comments Awesome words Abubakar. Me of the same idea. Because if you start hating all people of one society due to few troublemakers then you loose the ability of judging correctly and blind hatred will lead nowhere
