Small group, but good discussion. Ranged over the story, relationship to situations we have experienced, the quality of the writing, the authenticity of some of the anecdotes, the likely translation of some of those details on film (may be better given actors to rethink some of the scenes), likeability of the author in her interviews, the support she received from her family in writing this story, how different is this tale from the family anecdote that provoked it, the extent of our familiarity with some of the historical details, the character portrayals, the effectiveness of the parallel stories of Dorrie and Isabelle, comparison of these stories with the black-white story lines of last month's read, Sue Monk Kidd's The Invention of Wings.
No new selections were made since the group was small. A question was raised about the feasibility of The Goldfinch for August, given the lead time for getting a library copy.
