When looking at books in the Loser List series, I noticed there are records for Holly Kowitt and H.N. Kowitt. The covers of books show H.N.; however, the full list in the series is under Holly.

Merged into the most popular name.

Why? The books with H.N. Kowitt on the cover should have that listed. If the books in question have only been published under H.N. Kowitt, as primary; if they were also published under Holly Kowitt then it depends which name they were published under first.

Please be more careful about merging author names.

Profile restored. (It contained only books 2 and 4)

I've seen in other cases when author has or doesn't have initial the profiles are merged into the most (used) popular name. When is this done and when not?

It should have all 4; all have been published under that name. And any other books published under that name as well.

If you're not clear on when author profiles should be merged, then just don't merge them. Leave them for other librarians.
