If I do read this book it will take me more than a month.

I'm not getting to this until next weekend, when long flights will make this the perfect carry-on baggage.
I wonder if the other 24 people who voted for this book will be weighing in (LOL).

In the next two months, gardening and canning will be out of my way, hopping more time to read.

Most of my reading at night is non fiction, mostly books on baking/cooking, special diet (Hemochromatosis) and meal planning for the days ahead. I am becoming a very good cook/baker. If I could buy in the stores, I would, professional bakers cost too much.

I'm about two-thirds of the way in and am enjoying it. Some issues here and there, but mainly a lot of fun. Loved the stories of the prince's adventures. Lots more that I want to say but I think I'll save it for later.
okay, finished it a few days back.
enjoyable! that's my main takeaway.
there was a lot that I didn't care for - strange characterization missteps, dumb coincidences, etc.
but overall I appreciate how Hamilton slowed himself down for this book. a lot more contemplative than I'm used to with him. all of his ideas on ambition and exploration and his balanced viewpoint on the various goals of revolutionaries, corporate mercenary grunts, the clones, etc... fascinating.
the central hook of the "Skins" was very well-done but I'm glad they didn't actually dominate the story.
my favorite part was actually the story-within-the-story of the Galactic Prince flying about in his spaceship trying to find new meaning in life, to bring back home to his girl and his world. loved all of that.

I finally know what you are talking about! that was literally my favorite sequence in the book. tragic and strangely beautiful.

according to my close acquaintance TV Tropes, Fun!
the space opera that won our decidedly controversial poll was the dependable and prolific Peter F. Hamilton's FALLEN DRAGON. it is a rare standalone novel by the author. I am looking forward to reading it!
