I recently finished several fantasies:

Cartamandua Legacy by Carol Berg - Excellent!
Scroll Of Saqqara by Pauline Gedge a mythic/historical fiction in ancient Egypt, but very fantasy like
Gifts by Ursula Le Guin getting ready to read the rest of the trilogy
The Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan - quite enjoyed these YAs
The Wishing Spell by Chris Coffer - a bit too young for me

--Hopefully I'll either finish "one hundred years of solitude" or i will leave it.

I'm so very much looking forward to reading 'Ada, or Ardor' by V. Nabokov! Depending on how fast I can go I'll probably start either Proust or Galapagos by K. Vonnegut..


@Aida, try and finish 'One hundred years of solitude', I disliked the whole thing, but the ending is rewarding, I'd say. Very moody.

I'm reading Julia Vanishes by Catherine Egan, and I'm enjoying it.

But today I went to library and picked up three very different books from each other.
* The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life by Mark Manson,
* Sons and Soldiers: The Untold Story of the Jews Who Escaped the Nazis and Returned with the U.S. Army to Fight Hitler by Bruce Henderson, which I started and is sorta unputdownable, and
* You Don't Have to Say You Love Me: A Memoir by Sherman Alexie, because it's brand new and I'm a Sherman Alexie fangal, and my RL book club is reading and I'm rereading The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian later in the month.

I'm now reading Leave Myself Behind by Bart Yates

Finally got back to the bookstore and picked up The Secret Rooms: A True Story of a Haunted Castle, a Plotting Duchess, and a Family Secret.

I really do need to get around to The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian one of these days.

And now I'm reading The Distance Between Us by Bart Yates

@Aida, try and finish 'On..." I'll try. I think less than 100 pages is left but the thing is I lost the track of characters and what happened. cause I kept skipping pages because they were too boring. the is embarrassing but I did that

I think you did very well, remembering those characters until so late! A few are throughout the whole book, but most I just accepted as 'there', and I focused on the stories itself, not so much on whose stories they were. That's bad too, but it kept me going..

I just finished The Complete Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi! I've been really into graphic novels over the past year or two, and this one was super fascinating.

I'm hoping to finish The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls before the movie comes out, or at least before it leaves theaters so I can go see it. I'd also like to read The Story of a New Name by Elena Ferrante; it's the sequel to My Brilliant Friend, which I read last month and absolutely adored.

Also, audiobooks! I'm listening to Astrophysics for People in a Hurry by Neil Degrasse Tyson. I don't think I really understand..... any of it..... but it's still interesting!

Rachel, i think I've heard about Persepolis, although in movie-form, can that be? Do you know if they made any visuals out of it? If so, would you recommend it?
Also, science is always fabulous - and Neil is most definitely a science pop-star.
As for myself, my reading pace with Nabokovs biggest novel is rather slow, so I won't read more than two books this month (although, I finished pride and prejudice just two days ago, so maybe that counts)

Currently reading The Line of Beauty after abandoning The Spell, also by Hollinghurst. I found the latter to be boring as hell, so hoping his award-winning novel will be better. So far it is.

Also downloaded My Brother's Husband, Volume 1 to my tablet for some late-summer fun.

I've recently read:

* Sons and Soldiers-- which I loved and recommend if you are interested in WWII history, or good storytelling.
* You Don't Have to Say You Love Me by Sherman Alexie, I read everything by Alexie, but even if you don't you may like it.
* Julia Vanishes was fun.

I'm currently reading All the Birds in the Sky and liking it a lot.

I'm actually more fond of his Swimming Pool Library than The Line of Beauty, as I find the former more lyrical...? Are you going to watch the BBC TV miniseries of The Line of Beauty as well?

I have that on my list as well! Thanks for the heads up on the series - I hadn't heard about it, but now I have even more incentive to read this novel.

Reading Strawberry Shake (manga), Sappho's poem fragments and waiting for the second book in the 'a land fit for heroes' trilogy. I've started and finished some other things in between

I started Lust: Four Letters. Infinite Possibilities by Geoff Ryman a gay SFF - rather humerous.

I've nearly completed the novel "Enter Night" by Micael Rowe. It's excellent, he's a gay horror writer from Toronto. One of the endorsements on the cover is from Christopher Rice, although I must admit I've never read one of his books.

I really liked that television series!

Now things are going to get confusing - two Gregs that were both on hiatus. In my case, the hiatus was because of a job search & job change.
