Great character progression in this book - talking too much about them will definitely lead to spoilers, so be sure you are done (or don't mind spoilers before you read this.
The story is all about the characters. When it starts, the main characters are minor characters in the universe set to die on the next away mission. They twist it by making themselves major characters to lead the charge to save their lives.
As part of this, one dimensional characters (like Kerensky) become multi-dimensional and much more interesting. Also, seemingly completely unimportant characters become pivotal.
If someone were to ask me to recommend a book with great characters and great character development - I would not hesitate to recommend this one!
