I love Steven Universe, pinterest - I feel well represented *snort*

I identify with Molly in that I'm the only person who's not attached to her phone/tablet/ipad while hanging out. I can't do the whole social networking while I go out to have lunch with my friends. I came out to be with them and appreciate my food, not to look at a tiny screen...

I don’t entirely understand how anyone gets a boyfriend. Or a girlfriend. It just seems like the most impossible odds. You have to have a crush on the exact right person at the exact right moment. And they have to like you back. A perfect alignment of feelings and circumstances. It’s almost unfathomable that it happens as often as it does. Such true words. Relationships between humans in general are always so hard

Ugh why are people like that? What does genetics matter when there's love? And who asked them anyway?!

Okay, so the sperm donnor baby w/ a twin who looks nothing like her and with whom she has almost nothing in common, a half-black (I think) little brother and biracial lesbians for parents is blown over by the fact that people aren't clones of their family and there is space in a family for everybody to be different? That you can be your own person? I'm disappointed. I don't even blink in the face of these situations.

(view spoiler)[ Yea blonde people with dark eyebrows are not very common but it happens! I haven't went on Pinterest in forever because distractions and reading is more important now. I mostly went for food and also I didn't have YouTube so I just went on Pinterest for all my content XD

I also identify with Molly with the phone situation. I just don't like doing it. I rather talk to someone in person and share memories. I don't check my phone unless I absolutely have to.

That quote is beautiful to me and so true. I got lucky with my boyfriend but I definitely had crushes that definitely were not successful.

Yea I was like who cares where they come from? They are still a big family who loves each other! Cassie is pretty funny.

It really has to be this set of perfect circumstances. I don't think I would have such a good relationship with my ex, if he was just some guy, you know? We became best friends which is very rare...

Their family seems more harmonious & healthy that many I've met in my day (okay, they're fictional, but still)

I love the diversity too! I love it in my life (when I was a little kid my dream was to befriend children from all over the world. So I'm still hurt by the fact humanity has so much hate to give)

I'm just thinking Molly, please! I know Goth parents with little princess girly girls with pink clothes and shiny nailpolish. Metal parents with super normal in tastes and clothes teens. I know a Lolita mother with a normal Japanese teacher for a husband and her daughter wears typical western female clothes sometimes, and some cute dresses other times (who couldn't with what her mother finds? she's got a real good eye for aesthetics) and she's not into anime stuff or wearing Japanese traditional clothing or any other stereotype. Their home looks pretty normal, aside from the fact the mother loves cute and old things. So, for me, it's normal for an apparently geek guy to have pierced modern parents *shrugs* (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I love how close Molly and Abby are! It's just nice that she put those conversations in and is so normal about it in YA books! Yea I like the fact that Cassie is a player because not everyone just stays with serious relationships all the times. But I don't really like players. Maybe I'm just traditional like that but I get people who don't want to commit.

I don't know why they hired Molly probably because she's a nice person. I guess sometimes it's busy. Reid and Molly are just so comfortable with each other and I'm getting ready for the buildup that going to happen between them.

Molly's humor is great. Just love it.

Evan does sound like a douchebag but I don't find it weird that she stayed with her boyfriend for that long. But just keep in mind that just because you liked him back then, doesn't mean you will like him in the future. People change. I've been with my boyfriend since I was 15 and hopefully I'll be with him for a long time but I just don't know.

Also referring to your other comment, I understand why you get a little upset by Molly's judgmental behavior but she didn't mean it in a bad way. She probably was just surprised. It's hard to break the stereotypes sometimes. (hide spoiler)]

I mean, my cousin & her husband are doing fine and they have this cute little girl. So it works well with them, it may work well with you. But I can't imagine it working out for most people, because, like you said, our paths diverge and we change and wish for different things. And some countries, like the USA are so big, you can literally live in different time-zones... I've just seen couples who were so perfect, break apart. I mean, even me. Nothing bad happened, and I'm not a player, I just broke up because I like to be free, and I was afraid I'd hurt someone who was not only my bf but steadily becoming a really close friend with my cat-like personality. And it's never been my wish to get married, I like being alone, I really do :P

I don't like the fact players hurt third parties. But if it's a person who doesn't want anything serious and they don't mislead anyone, I don't have anything against it. It's their life
On the other hand, I don't think it's traditionalist to like being monogamous, it's just one of the many life choices we may want. Each of us has something that fits them better. And that may change too...

They are the cutest, and I can see how they work so well together. They are both romantics and don't pretend to be otherwise. It's nice to see this side of Abby, it fleshes her out a bit more.

I was just disappointed *shrugs* If I was like my father, I'd be a racist homophobe who doesn't even want to do recycling (which I do almost religiously. I'm super green xD). There's an example right there of how we are our own persons :) (hide spoiler)]

Sometimes relationships work out and sometimes they don't. It really depends. It's ok if you like being alone. Trust me there is nothing wrong with that. You have more time to read XD. Yea that's the fact about players that I don't like. They make girls (or guys it really doesn't matter) feel like they love them and want to be with them and then they just use them for sex and move on to the next person. But if they tell them that's their intention, then I have no problem because if that's what they want, they should be allowed that. However if they mislead people, that's what I don't like and they lie to them and ugh. Hate those type of players. Maybe me being monogamous might change but I always consider it to be a strong part of my morals even though I know it's completely ok to not be like that but I just rather not.

Oh yea I'm finally starting to like Abby a little more now. As you know, in Simon (we are just calling the book Simon to shorten it), I didn't really care for Abby much because she seemed so stereotypical happy girl who just moved. But with the relationship with Molly, I can see she has more depth than it seems and now I want more Abby and Molly in the story.

I do agree that we can be our own persons. I love my mom but she tends to care more about looks than I do (not because she's selfish. She just really likes to feel pretty with clothes and makeup and stuff). She cares more about the outside. I care more about the inside. While my parents and I have similarities, we all have different traits that make us all different. No one is a carbon copy of their parents. So yea I do agree with that. (hide spoiler)]

Lmaooo I do, but I love being with my friends. But even then, people say I'm too independent. I believe love goes something like this: Belong together, yes; belong to each other, no. No sense of owning or being owned.

Giving someone else false hope, leading them on, playing with people just for fun or to get their goal - that isn't right. I don't know who I abhor more, those types of players or cheaters. I actually have respect for ppl who don't commit but are honest about it, as opposed to ppl who start a relationship just to use their partner anyway. As in We are an item, like you wanted, so why don't you do this for me? *shudders* I mean, what do we even call those people?!
You go and be monogamous, juggling people must take a lot of work. Joking, joking. Going for romantic feelings and not lust, that's beautiful. When I see couples of elderly ppl still in love after being together for so long, it's so adorable and awwww

Both valid points. Taking care of ourselves makes us feel good about ourselves, we may just have different approaches to it. There's different things that make us happy or attract us. I know about all those idiot type of people because my best friend is currently dating one. -_- She thinks he's the best boyfriend but he keeps flirting with my other best friend that is her friend as well. And he flirted with me too. Until I told him to back off unless he wants to get punched in the face. And I tried telling her but she blamed me instead. Big long story and luckily I'm still her friend but unfortunately he's still her boyfriend and ugh I hate that guy. 90% of my high school drama. But yea I know all about those people.

I also want to see them together before she moved! Becky, please bring us a novella in which we see Abby and the rest of Molly's family in a family reunion!! I'm just in love with her characters *insert heart eyed emoji here* (hide spoiler)]

Also can I say that the BOTM is so lonely without you. No one has been discussing and since I'm behind, I don't have much to say... Are you joining next month?

You know what? It may be the I-haven't-fully-woken-up-me talking (actually I have great ideas at these inopportune moments), but I was just thinking why Becky Albertalli's stories are so perfect, and it's exactly because they are perfectly imperfect. You know?
The characters don't go into long speeches like poets or philosophers all the time, and their language is not perfect at all times, things don't just come out right at first sometimes when they try to say them even in common circumstances. And that's human.
Then there's the simple gestures, and the perfect awkwardness as opposed to perfectly romantic moments of 15 pages. Like when Bram brought Simon's palm to his lips, held it there, then let their hands drop. At the talent show. No mushy-mushy. Simple, affectionate, beautiful and believable. Cassie sliding her foot against Molly's...

Yeah, I noticed that happening when I checked how the 1st botm was doing (The Book Thief, still gotta read it). Some ppl posted their thoughts, but mostly didn't or didn't say much and I think many ppl who voted on that book or asked to participate ended up not even reading. Oh! Just like with Simon, now that I think about it! So many ppl voted! And it does specifically say to vote only if you're intending to read that one. (I know life gets us busy buuuut)

Okay, just checked this botm and it is really bare... Don't like it when ppl just want to talk about their book crushes xD - not why I read books...

Actually I've met ppl who can't be alone, who don't know how to be by themselves. And some of them end up being the worse, since they only dump their partners when they've found someone else. Or should I make it clearer, already conquered the new love interest -_- seriously

(view spoiler)[Molly has so many complexes, she can't even form her own opinions about the concepts of sex, intimacy and virginity... Like, never having had any sort of sexual experience does not mean you aren't qualified to assert your position in society and that you can't challenge the norm. We must tell her this!
Virginity is a concept invented by men who think their penis is so important it can fundamentally change a woman.

Okay, so I hate the type of situation Molly just experienced. When people drag you around with their crush or object of attraction, so there's a sense of normalcy or whatever the s* they are thinking they must transmit, and then they either start the make-out fest in front of you, or try to pair you with the crush's friend you never met so it's a double couple fest make-out and not a couple with a candle-stick...

I would probably become friends with Vihaan, if he's carrying kittens around.

Okay, so Molly is great at crafts and décor, and that's awesome! But, once again, for someone who lives with obviously 3 feminist, she seems to miss the point. Feminists are humans like everyone else, with feelings, lust, attraction. They come in many shapes, colours, forms, religious beliefs, sexes, and sexual identities.

Don't tell Cassie about Operation No Complex. She's keeping mum about Mina after that embarrassing afternoon she just created for you.

Until Chapter 9

(view spoiler)[ Bringing it back to what you said about how Becky Albertalli's books are perfect because they are imperfectly perfect, I think this hits right on the mark. Molly, Cassie, and Mina are talking to Max about how his comment of a girl really being a woman is defined by sex is definitely not ok. Just because you've had sex doesn't mean you're suddenly a woman. And also, when Cassie and Mina state that people only think sex is defined as sex if there is a penis involved. I just love the little discussions they have and their feminist outlook in such a normal light without being too serious.

I definitely relate to Molly about being afraid to put yourself out there for fear of what people may think of you. I definitely had that problem and while I technically have never been rejected, I'm not as hidden with my emotions as Molly is because when I have a crush on someone, you can totally tell XD. She's now opening herself up because she understands that she needs to be rejected and get hurt in order to find that great big love. She needs to take a chance.

The same sex marriage is just so cute and I'm excited for Nadine and Patty's wedding (I'm sensing a family reunion coming on!) and it's just really cool that she's not only focusing on the romance. She's focusing on family and friendships as well it's just so cute.

I'm leaning toward Reid and Molly. Even though their interactions have been small (and Reid wasn't in these chapters at all), Molly felt like herself and she doesn't feel intimidation just because he's a guy. It just feels a little more natural. I feel like Molly and Will will (he he) be just friends with time.

Also there's this conversation that I like between Nadine and Molly that I really related to. Molly is starting to feel left out by Cassie because she's getting really close to Mina and she's not telling her any details. Nadine is telling her that she knows that you feel left out now because of love but she will always come back. I wish someone would have told me this with my best friend (same best friend with douche boyfriend) started dating and she kinda just shut me and the rest of her friends out. I thought it had something to do with the guy she was with (he's still a douche anyways) but maybe that wasn't the case. Maybe I just wasn't used to my best friend wanting to talk to someone else. Maybe I just felt like she was going to leave. But yea it struck a chord. I really want to read the rest. (hide spoiler)]

Oh yea don't worry Regsly. I definitely don't read books to have book crushes. I just really like stories and how they are told and how it relates to real life. The lessons they bring you. I know a lot of people vote but I did the same for BOTM the first time. I swore I was going to read The Book Thief and then I never gotten around to it. (I haven't read The Book Thief either and it's been a while). I just was really hoping for more discussion. Once I get up to date, I'll try to get more people to discuss.

But it's so true like omg your penis is not that important. Sex is fun and intimate thing for a couple to do but that's all it is. It doesn't change or define you. People need to stop thinking this way.

Oh yea that situation was so terribly awkward. I understand what Cassie was trying to do. She just wanted this whole friendship and double date complex but you can't just push that on someone. It has to come naturally. Also, she is also not that great at subtlety. But her intentions were good.

That kid is great but what does he do when the cat is hungry? Needs to use the kitty box? Needs to go outside? What about when he leaves to the gym for class? Or he's hot inside that hoodie? I just want the kitten to be ok :)

(view spoiler)[That discussion is just like the type of talk I've always had, so it rings so true for me. And it's just the thing I need to see in books made for younger audiences.

Oh yeah, I haven't said it but I LOVE NADINE! And the dynamics. I like the fact they could've gotten married, but they didn't as if they wouldn't do it before everyone else could. It's sweet and revolutionary.

Sometimes they come back, sometimes we grow distant. It's life. But when some ppl are young they get too intense with their 1st real partner (so it's gender neutral), specially at the beginning. Actually, some ppl will always put their partner 1st and foremost, ditching their family & friends for them.
The explosion may never come. Or she may only see what he's done is unacceptable, after their relationship goes sour.

After getting rejected, it will be less scary and Molly'll learn something. But it's still scary even if you're not rejected, because as we've talked about previously, there's many ways ppl can hurt us (and we can hurt them).

Me too. Being comfortable with Reid is a great step. He's adorable too. I feel like Will is a nice guy but he just wants to be friends. As in, he thinks Molly is sweet and shy and tries to engage her in the conversations so she can feel comfortable. That's how I feel about it. (hide spoiler)]

Exactly. But I see ppl who only mention that xD We have to stimulate the real discussion out of them *laughs* Nah, just create a little bug in the others for talking more about the books. That's why this group was created anyway. If we don't, it defeats the purpose.
At the 1st one, I voted for The Girl On The Train, that's the one I had - had bought it for my mother's bday last year ^_^ But I totally get ppl getting busy, it's just unsatisfactory to have no discussion.

I love the moms!!! They are awesome. I just want to know more about them! I can't wait for their wedding! I think it's sweet that they waited so long. It's adorable. I want that family reunion. I want it. It better be happening.

Maybe that might happen. I hope she just comes to her senses. She really is a sweet and caring girl and she just thinks that I don't want her to be happy but I do. I just know that guy is gonna hurt her. That's what I'm waiting for because she probably won't see it. For the guy to be just done with her and break her heart into a million pieces and she realizes (maybe I don't know) that I was just trying to help her see that he was just an asshole. When I got my first boyfriend, I tried not to push my family and friends away because I didn't want to be that person who did. I didn't want them to fell how I felt when they did that. I just tried to put them all equally. It's hard though. I'll admit that. Hopefully my friend makes the right decision.

Rejection is still scary of course and we know that some people just hurt another person maybe with the intention of doing it. It does hurt but she will learn something and maybe it will lead her into something greater.

That's how I feel about Will too. He's just trying to engage conversation. I haven't seen that many interactions with Reid to know if he likes her but it seems nice. (hide spoiler)]

"Be productive" is one I hope to follow because I procrastinate so much it's crazy.

I can just imagine the letter as followed:
Dear Becky,

We really enjoyed your previous books and they mean so much to us. We were wondering how you would felt if you can give us a prequel into the background of Abby and Molly's life before she moved or Garrett's and Bram's friendship or Simon, Leah, and Nick's friendship trio before Abby. Please let us know because we are big fans of all these characters and would love to see them back again. Even better, lets have all these characters meet and have a party! That would be fun to write and us to read about.

(view spoiler)[Interesting fact: Iranian mothers call their sons doodool-tala (golden penis). This is just so relevant to me about how patriarchal societies still make men feel undeservingly self-important. (I do not have anything against men as you know, though)

And it's so messed-up. I mean, I guess the concept of virginity could even not exist and it would save us from a lot of crap. But ppl already use the word in other contexts for saying "I've never done that." and I guess that's fine. Saying I'm a virgin as in "I never had a sexual experience with another person.", not as "I wasn't penetrated." People who say oral sex or ahm you know fingering doesn't count, so lesbian sex doesn't count make me mad.
Actually, oh now that I think about it it's funny because she has a twin and she's gay, but the twin is asexual - so it goes very well with the book. Okay, so I was gonna say I had a friend to whom ppl actually said stuff like that, and the 3 of us had a discussion over that so long ago. People actually dismiss the importance of the feelings put into the act and care more about which organ or whatever does the deed. *exasperated* What is up with that?

We understand that, but it's still bad. And Max was there too, God. The worse part is bringing you along, then shooing you all out so you can have private time. Why didn't they meet just the 2 of them from the start? xD When ppl are young, they do this all the time and I'm like Whyyyyy

I'm assuming he didn't carry the same cat around, but that he rescued kittens from the street and then carried them with him until he could bring them home or to a shelter. Also assuming he had food for the little one, and that he let it out in the playground to do its business. (hide spoiler)]

Well, the fact you allow yourself to be open-minded is already great. It can be difficult to even think of questioning something when society ingrains all these concepts, stereotypes, expectations and social constructs in us. But by questioning things we can pinpoint what has to improve and work towards that :)

I think ppl play this game in which they don't want to let on to each other that they are going to make-out, even though both know they will. *shrugs* Don't get it, though. (hide spoiler)]

Cassie's having attitudes I don't like from the start. I mean, if she wasn't the type to talk openly with her twin, I'd think Molly was in the wrong. But Cassie was the one who suddenly pushed her out and had her find out about her relationship from Fb of all places! Also, I agree, she's had a gf for 2 days, what makes her an expert on love? B* please! Forcing her sister on Will, but embarrassing her at the same time, like total vag-block if Molly was indeed interested! Shitty sister: makes her sister feel uncomfortable, then wants her to remain so she can exchange saliva with her gf like she hasn't been seeing her practically everyday. (Oh and Cass still wants Molly to tell her things, but not criticize or openly say she hurt her feelings)

I don't know how much Molly weights, but I don't picture her as someone unhealthy, Grandma! Except for the sleeping part. She needs to sleep more! Man, I need to sleep more.

I actually have a theory about Will. He's Mina's bff, just like Cassie was one of Molly's right? And this new couple, they're totally engrossed in each other. I think Will is feeling as left out as Molly, and since he liked her right away, he's trying to be friends since they'll sympathize with each other. It comes off a bit flirty, because I guess that's how he is.

I thought I might have been biased before, but now I'm sure. Molly's narration is too similar to Simon's.

From what I've learned with Simon, Becky likes to makes ppl clash as part of the adulthood process. Simon literally got in trouble with everyone who was close to him, before he managed to fix everything up - which is pretty lucky.
The problem is: Cassie is making it very hard for me to like her, she has some right ideals and sticks up for her sister against the world. But she can still be a shitty person, selfish, inconsiderate, throwing hurtful words, not admitting she was in the wrong - like before Grandam & Mina arrived for lunch. It was like she was saying Don't start with your over-sensitive s*, Molly and I think that even when you are wrong to feel something, when it isn't logical, it is still your feelings and ppl are not allowed to discard them before you can accept them and let go.

I picture her cute and voluptuous with medium breasts on the +size . It saddens me that fat is an insult to some ppl, but so can be skinny. She clearly doesn't have an eating problem, which shows how cool Becky is. But telling her to leave half of everything was so bad - our stomachs dilate according to how much we eat, so she'd feel hungry fast and her body would just start absorbing more bad stuff, like if after dinner she went for a small dose of cake for dessert, her system would suck more sugar & stuff. It's all about what and how you eat, drink lots of water and eat between meals, each 2h. If you're overweight, but healthy, what matters?

Nothing against the narration. Just a lot of the sentences came back to me as just like Simon's and since it's narration on the first person and with a lot of jargon and familiar speech, it's hard not to notice... That would be cool, though Leah can be a bit intimidating xD (hide spoiler)]

To be honest Molly, certain love gestures between couples make me feel awkward too. One minute ppl are talking, then suddenly one of them hugs the other from behind and kisses the person and I was just looking there since we were talking. But staring at a couple while they are lovey-dovey feels like a creep move, so Idk where to look or what to do. Certain gestures are normal, but other more intimate ones just cut the normality straight out of a group meet.

Mina said something really mean, actually. And Reid's not fat. What is up with that? So what, is Reid the guy you marry after you mess up in your life because he's sooooo sweet, but you never put out sex because he's sooooo nice? I wanna shake her. Men have complexes, low self-esteem and suffer from social expectations too.
You know what? She's right. Reid isn't someone you have sex with, he's someone who makes love to you. Hmph

The part with aunt Karen is so disturbing. How could you stop standing by your beloved sister because of something as inconsequential as sexual preference? Nadine has such a beautiful family too. I'm even surprised Karen came to see the twins, since they're biologically only Patty's daughters and for someone homophobic that seems like enough reason to shun the kids.

And then when he tried to go in for a hug but he felt too awkward like OMG JUST BE TOGETHER AND SAY YOU LIKE EACH OTHER PLEASE!! (This is why I love Becky Albertalli's books. They make me ship characters so hard it's just amazing).

Molly is being so awkward but I understand. She's afraid of saying the wrong thing. Like that whole thing with Cassie "Come on. Put yourself out there. Just get rejected. It's not that bad." Like no. Everyone has different experiences like Molly is more shy than you are. That part just really annoyed me because she acts like it's so easy but it's not. Molly has a point. It's like when you put your feelings out completely and the guy doesn't even give a second glance. Like it hurts. But Cassie has no problem because she has done it a million times before. Ugh that bothered me.

And Mina's comment was so rude. Ugh like just because guys don't look freaking sexy sometimes does not mean they aren't sex repulsive and if you're someone like me, you don't care if they are freaking attractive to have sex with, YOU JUST WANT SOMEONE WHO LOVES AND CARES ABOUT YOU!!! But I loved the Reid and Molly scenes. I also liked it when Molly stood up to Cassie for her bullshit like what the fuck is she that lovesick with Mina?? That's so annoying. But I did like Cassie telling her to go with Reid because clearly that's what's going to happen.

ALSO THAT DRUNK GUY WAS SO ANNOYING I HATE HIM. Like that's so rude just ugh. I feel so bad for Molly but she did stand up for herself which I like. MORE REID AND MOLLY PLEASE. Mina is totes part of the cool crowd and Reid doesn't seem to be. But I do get what you mean. We did not get this frustrated in Simon but I still really like this book overall.

Will is pretty flirty but I guess there are some guys that are like that. I really appreciated Cassie's viewpoint even though I will always be annoyed at her, I'm glad they had this real talk and acknowledging that things are going to be different. I don't think they are going to grow apart like it implies (like my mom is still very close to her sisters) but they will have fights and not be as close as they were before. But I can relate to her trying to balance everything with a new person in her life. Man it's just really hard to see that because I don't think she tried hard enough because my friend was like Cassie in terms that she was always with her boyfriend but things eventually changed. Reid is a really really good guy. Honest, proper, respectful, smart, adorable, funny... there are literally ppl looking for your twins in the real world right now, Reid! I loved it when he told her to make assumptions. The absolute opposite with most guys who don't want you to be heavy.
