Please add to this thread if you know of any magazines that accept short story submissions so we can give all members a chance to get their work published and read. And for readers, you’ll know which magazines publish short stories :)

Carla (cjsarett) | 51 comments If you want a full list, you can use Duotrope Digest, which has over 4000 literary magazines; for a fee, you can use their submission manager and get other info. Most of my publications came from their suggestions.

Another good resource is New Pages -- they offer Calls for Submission.

Thanks for the suggestion Carla! If anyone has had luck with particular magazines, let us know here.

Carla (cjsarett) | 51 comments I have over 25 published stories -- you need to explore what the editors like, and see if your story fits their taste. Most editors are pretty upfront about what they like.

Thanks Carla. If you'd like to be featured or have suggestions for other short story authors we could highlight, please let us know in our "Featured Author 2014" Folder".

Virginia | 73 comments The First Line is a great litmag for short stories and inspiration. Make sure that you check out their website www.thefirstline.com for the rules of submission (they publish short stories that all start with the same first line so you have to comply with those rules). But they're a great read, and a fun litmag to publish with!

Here's a nice little list of 44 magazines (and other paying markets) that publish short stories: http://letswriteashortstory.com/liter... . I've found several I hope to submit to by the end of the year.

Iesha (In east shade house at...) (emberblue) | 410 comments I will check these out myself. :)

Does this site accept submissions from those outside of the UK? I looked around the site and didn't see the answer anywhere.

Awesome. I looked at your Pintrest board for this year and got inspired by one of your pictures (the one of the two cats). I started a version of it but it went sideways and turned into something much longer... I'm going to be trying again with my original idea soon. Hopefully it won't go sideways this time. o.O

Thanks for posting that, Iesha!

I found out they also have a monthly short story contest for stories between 2,000 and 10,000 words.

Musae P | 1 comments I wish to introduce our new magazine: Leannàn – A Literary Romance Magazine
I now have Ealaín – My literary & Art Magazine for art, poetry and stories. My goal is diversity. I want to showcase as many poets, artists, authors and photographers as possible. I want to make good poetry, stories and art accessible to as many people as I can, at a price that is affordable for all. I want plays, flash fiction, short stories, and poetry of all forms.
Now for Leannàn – This is my romance showcase. Love in all its forms. I want this magazine to have spice, but not to the extent of Erotica. A happy middle between the two. Thus art, stories, poetry and everything people who love romance wants. This will also carry article on the theme and I hope, book reviews and advice too…

I hope you may bring my magazines under the attention of your writers as I always need new blood. I am not a paying market yet, but hope to become the best paying market in the world.

Carolyn McBride (carolynmcbride) | 17 comments Does anyone know if Lone Star Stories is still publishing? 2008 can't really be their current issue...It's getting harder to find someone willing to pay for well-written spec fic that isn't all dark and twisty.

Yes, we're always open to submissions of speculative fiction at www.thecoloredlens.com. We have two weeks left for this period, so prob best to wait until June now (unless your story is guaranteed to blow us out of the water!)

We accept short stories and we also serialise novellas of up to 20k words.

We are a paying market, but only token at the mo.

I get you about the dark and twisty front. It isn't a 'must have' for us but do read some of our back issues on the website to get a feel for what we do like (they are free). Basically, if it's well written and has depth we're interested in reading it!
