This is a place you to literally talk about anything! Have fun with it and make sure to add a new thread. I know you all have things to talk about ;)

V.M. Sang (aspholessaria) | 20 comments Hi. My latest book, The Stones of Earth and Air came out on Monday. I'm excited about this one.
Marketing isn't my thing at all. Get an email list they say. but rarely how to go about getting one. (the suggestions made I've tried and they didn't work. People don't seem to want my 'prizes' for signing up). Get reviews, but very few people don't seem to want to be bothered to write one.
How do you promote your books.

Vivienne, I promote it through my newsletter which I built up over 6 or 7 months. Most of them are just people I've met on Facebook, honestly. Facebook can be great to promote, but you have to make sure you say interesting stuff other times, not just promoting. Also, making other author friends are good. Some paid promotions work well, such as EReader News Today. A mixture of those is a good way to go.

I like the thread title, David, CHATSIES. That's cute. I hope we get a lot of topics to talk about and not just about books which there is a thread for.

I've already talked about my solar eclipse experience, and heard yours. I would like to know how your summer job went. Are you still working there?

There was a thread here about the weird things that happened to us in our life, now I can't find it. But I'll put it here:

It's not about me, but my nephew. He was on the Judge Judy show a few years back and she yelled at him, "Is something wrong with you?" on national TV!--LOL!

I am still doing about 5 hours a week but it went amazing. I got some good money saved up (college soon, eek), and also learned a lot.

That is quite a story! Lol. Some people would pay money to get yelled at by Judge Judy. I might burst into tears.

Just to keep you updated, David:

After 2 days, you have 81 views and 5 likes on your interview. Good for you:)

Has anyone gone to see IT yet? It was a big success over the weekend.

Thank you :) I saw IT! Cost a lot of money, had to buy our tickets two hours before the show started to avoid being sold out, and...

Well, I wasn't a fan of the book in the first place (too long, too wordy, didn't like the shape-shifting part of the villain), but did enjoy the movie. It wasn't scary to me at all, but was a nice film. I'll go see the second one, if only to say I did.

Others may love the film, so let them talk about it! Lol

What? You didn't think it was scary? I'm looking forward to being scared. I guess it takes a lot to scare a horror author.

David Kummer | 636 comments Mod
Maybe that's the problem! Lol. I still enjoyed it for sure, just not how I expected to

David, don't forget it Horror week on Goodreads. I'd like to see if you can write a two-sentence horror story:)

Oh--I went to see IT--walked out right in the middle of it:(

David Kummer | 636 comments Mod
You didn't like it either then? Or it was too scary?

Loved Pennywise. Hated the rest. Too dark; teen-agers behaving and talking much too inappropriately; weird parents (one's a molester); the bullying factor went way overboard--sheesh!!

If that movie had been made in my day, which was a few years ago:) even at R rating, it wouldn't have been so dark and vulgar. To me, the sign of a good director is one who can make a movie without all that and still get the scary point across. Horror movies are supposed to be scary, not offensive. (thanks for letting me vent:)

Don't get the big head, David. But if you can write horror without all that and it still be a good story, so can the adults!!!

Yeah I thought it was really dark but not scary. And the teenagers did kinda throw me off. I read the book and I didn't think it was quite that level of just... not sure what the word is. Everything you described! Lol. I laughed more than I cringed, which isn't good in a horror movie.
