Bill OK folks. The threads for the September Group Reads are open and it looks like they are already active. Nice to see. I hope everybody is liking the new Group read process.

This is the group read thread for nominations for the October 2017 Group Read. Nominations will remain open until I get between 15 and 20 nominations. Then I'll set up the poll.

OK now. For October's nominations the category is Author's who's last name starts with either K or L. There have been a few books that can't be chosen as they've been selected within the last 3 years. They are -

- Gone, Baby, Gone by Dennis Lehane (currently reading in fact)
- Defending Jacob by William Landay
- The Mystery of the Yellow Room by Gaston Leroux
- The Last Detective by Peter Lovesey
- The Drop by Dennis Lehane
- You by Caroline Kepnes
- 11/22/63 by Stephen King
- The Beekeeper's Apprentice by Laurie R. King
- The Ice Princess by Camilla Läckberg

The basic rules for Group reads still apply -

a) this is not the place for authors to nominate their own books,
b) if you nominate a book and it wins, you are the discussion leader. If you don't want to take an active role as the moderator, then please please please don't nominate a book.
c) please use the "add book/author" feature when making your nomination.

I'll keep the nominations open until we get 15 - 20 books. Good luck!

MissLemon | 255 comments I would like to nominate The Great Swindle Pierre Lemaitre as it won the CWA International Dagger last year, but I'm a little confused by its Goodreads classification which doesn't seem to fit.- it's listed as Historical Fiction.Has anyone read it already and can confirm that it is (I think) a Crime Thriller?

Bill Carolyn wrote: "I would like to nominate The Great Swindle Pierre Lemaitre as it won the CWA International Dagger last year, but I'm a little confused by its Goodreads classificatio..."

It won the award for international crime fiction, so I'll add it.

message 11: by Bill (new)

Bill Skye wrote: "The Mercedes Coffin by Faye Kellerman"

I've added it, Skye. It's the 17th book in a series. Can it be read without missing much from the past books?

message 12: by Skye (new)

Skye | 2105 comments I imagine, Bill, most of her books are stand-alones, more or less, but it's been quite awhile since I've read her; ( they do follow a schema---Detective Peter Decker and his Hacidic wife, Rina Lazarus, who gets involved in his cases.

I'll butt in here :). I have read all of Cleeves' Shetland books and they are a favorite series. Their slow pace matches the culture of the Shetlands. I am just getting ready to listen to the first in her Vera series - I love the tv show. I also have read many Hillerman books and they are favorites as well. Maybe we should do a group read for one of these one day.!

I like them all as well, Suzy. I've yet to finish the Shetlands or the Veras and am looking forward to trying the George & Molly books. I think we may have done a group read on one or more of these, but i'm not sure. You can always do buddy reads, we do have a thread set up for them
