Read a book with a word in the title ending in -sion, -tion, or -cion.

Please use this thread for discussion about task 10.7.

Yes, we'll allow plurals and possessives on this one. But no other variations.

Elizabeth (Alaska) In another thread, Valerie asked about recommendations for this task:

Restoration by Rose Tremain is good historical fiction, will combo with Old and the Single Word task, and gets 5 oldies points

The Anatomy of Deception by Lawrence Goldstone - decent mystery, combo with Old task

Regeneration by Pat Barker, the first in her Regeneration trilogy (but can be read as a stand alone), combo with One Word, 5 combo points (this takes place mostly in a sanatorium treating shell shock of WWI soldiers

The Confessions of Nat Turner by William Styron, combos with Old and Double Letter, 5 oldies points - story of a slave uprising

The Second Confession by Rex Stout, have not read this, but Rex Stout's Nero Wolfe series is entertaining mysteries, combos with Uncommon Letter, 5 oldies points

I have others on my shelves, I just searched for the endings on My Books.

Valerie Brown | 3309 comments Thank you, Elizabeth + Connie! Now I'll have a lot to choose from. I don't know why I was drawing such a blank with this task!

Karin Wow, I just realized I'm reading one that fits this (so it will be a combo :) ).

Ed Lehman | 2651 comments I'm planning to read The Invention of Curried Sausage by Uwe Timm. It's on Boxall's 1001 Books You Should Read Before You Die List.

Ed, you deserve a prize for coming up with the most interesting and unusual books.

It's a very nice book, although I don't think it deserves to be in 1001 list. I really like Uwe Timm.

Ed Lehman | 2651 comments Could I get an ok for Generations in Black and White: Photographs from the James Weldon Johnson Memorial Collection by Carl Van Vechten?

The book has one or two pages of biography for each of the 83 photographs...so, it's mostly text despite the sub-title.

You're good to go on this one, Ed, no holds barred.

Denise | 1858 comments I can't seem to keep it straight about titles and subtitles. The View from the Cheap Seats: Selected Nonfiction by Neil Gaiman won't work here because the -tion is in the subtitle, correct? (And it's kind of a generic subtitle.)

Good to go on this one. It is a bit generic, but it's not one of our excluded subtitles (at this time). And subtitles work for this task.

Tawallah | 447 comments Would this book count: Just Mercy: a story of justice and redemption or is redemption part of the subtitle?

Elizabeth (Alaska) June wrote: "Would this book count: Just Mercy: a story of justice and redemption or is redemption part of the subtitle?"

Yes, that counts - for this task, words in the subtitle qualify.
