Would do you decide to quite a book? Or do you stay with it until the end? I tend to give it 50 or so pages, then if it's still boring I put it done. I don't time to waste on slow books (les miserables is going to be an exception)

I give up of I feel like I'm forcing myself to read it. Like I lot of classics I find I'm forcing myself to read (pride and prejudice, the secret garden). Or if it's really long and has way too much detail (inkheart trilogy)
I rarely (like once in a year) quit a book. I usually read till the end. If the book becomes too unbearable at some point, I put it on hold for a few weeks or months before trying to continue it. And if the book is still unbearable after that, I resort to skipping and skimming, but I generally do finish it. I really can't leave a book mid-way no matter how horrible it is.
Fiction, no; non-fiction, yes. For boring, slow, or poorly written novels, I take my time and read other books simultaneously till I eventually finish them. I have this weird but awesome ability to begin a novel, put it down for a few months, then pick it back up again and remember everything that's already happened, so taking a year or so to read a book (especially long ones like 1Q84 and Bleak House) is possible. However, non-fiction is written differently, so if I put a book down for too long, I'd have to start from the beginning again, so I don't finish boring non-fiction.
If the writing is bad, story if boring, main characters annoying...well then, yes, I do give up the book.
I've never given up on a book. I think its because I've got a "I'll finish what I start" attitude, as well as the little hope that it will get better. I also believe it isn't fair to judge a book without reading all of it.

Yep, if the book really sucks. I try to stick it out, but some books just aren't worth it at all.

Ha...Les Mis was just chosen for me on a "pick it for me" challenge. I take it you're enjoying it?

I don't usually quit, because sometimes when I hate a book I keep reading just to see what will happen, but if a book is just too boring (e.g. Cast in Shadow by Michelle Sagara) I can't help myself - I have to stop!
I would like to think not unless it's nonfiction ughh
I will give books like 50 pages but if it doesn't get exciting or interesting than I will put it down. I will not waste time on a book that is boring.
If the book gets to the point where I'm having to make alternate story lines in my head to compensate for the lack of creativity/action/excitement/romance/etc. then that book shall be shoved to the very corned of my bookshelf and remain unfinished.
I have quit on a few books if I just can't get into the story. Also when there is too much language in a book, like every few pages. It really is unnecessary.
I have never quit a book and never want to... no matter how good or bad... I dont know why because I have read plenty of books that I dont really like, I guess it's just because I always want to know what happens in the end :)
I've only quit on a few books, and that was only because what was going to happen was predictable and it made it really boring.
I don't quit that many books, but once in a while, when there is a book that has either a boring narrator, a boring plotline, or something I just can't get into, I quit reading the book, but it doesn't happen very often.
Usually I finish my books - but sometimes if I'm really not feeling it at the moment, I'll put it down for a while and pick it up again later. Even if I'm not enjoying the book too much I'll try to finish it so I'll know how it ended.
@Clarissa
That's exactly what I was thinking. It doesn't happen very often.

I don't like quitting books. I try to give every book the benefit of doubt and read to the end. But I guess constant plot holes and annoying characters will put me off
I usually try to read the whole book or the whole book series. The Pendragon series is one example. I read the first book and the rest, hoping the whole time to finally reach the end. The Hobbit also took me a whole two months to read, and I've forgotten virtually everything that happened in the book.
For the longest time I would make myself suffer through books, I knew I wasn't enjoying just so I would know what happened, but now I've decided if I don't like the book after maybe a third if the way through I put it down. Some books I try rereading again later, but not many.
Not really I try to just stick it through. I used to be though. I would be in the first few chapters and just quit. Now I can't stand the thought of getting a novel and going through all the time and effort to buy it and then not giving it a chance if it's not up to my standards in the first 20 pages.

I barely ever DNF books, but if a book is just too boring or annoying, I DNF it. I try to give the book a chance, but if I seems like something I'm definitely not going to enjoy and just something that's a waste of time, I give up on it.
No, I am not . I have been tempted many times, but I try to finish it no matter how boring it is . But it's a different story with Non Fiction though. I have tried to complete non fiction books but the result is always the same. I just cant complete it
I can give up easily, but before I do give up, I skim ahead to see if it gets interesting. Sometimes I'll even skip to the end to see if it's worth finishing. It usually isn't though.
I'll usually take a break from the book if it's so bad that I'm considering giving up. If I start again and it's still bad then I'll skip to the end and see what happens just to satiate my curiosity.
Very rarely. Even when I don't like it I feel the need to finish it for some reason. I'm trying to think of a book that I abandoned....I can easily stop reading a series, but I don't think I can quit in the middle of a book.
Yeah.* hides in shame
The book has to be like...really bad though. If it were in a series and the books before were good, then i would finish it.
I wouldn't say quitter is a good term for it, but it's not much of an issue. I don't finish books that I find dull, or of poor quality. I'm not ashamed. It's not really "quitting", though. It's simply moving on to better things. Of course, that's probably why the quotations were placed. :D :D
I DNF/quit books a lot. If I'm reading a book and I'm 100 pages in (sometimes even 50) and I find myself not enjoying it, I put it down. Most of the time I actually mean to pick it up again at some point, but there are other more interesting books that the books I put down get abandoned.
I used to not be, but now that I have quit blogging and do not need to review, I have begun to quit. And honestly, it's so awesome! Like why did I subject myself to the torture having to read bad books before? It was terrible!

Yeah, that's a good perspective on it! It's not our fault if the books are not well-written or engaging.

Probably 100 pages. I have been known to pack the book in with less than 20% to go in a couple of extreme cases. If I am trying to read a book a friend recommended I will do my best to finish it whatever.I agree I am not a quitter - I just refuse to spend my precious time reading something that doesn't demand I read it!
